Tip 12: Noun clause connectors also used as subjects *Here we see that the noun clause connector

will not only function as a connector but also as the subject of the noun clause. The three types of noun clauses are still present in this Tip which are: the object of a verb, the object of a preposition, and the subject of the sentence. The noun clause connector subjects are: who, whoever, what, whatever, which, and whichever. EXAMPLES: Adam does not know what is wrong with her. S V C/S V (The noun clause what is wrong with her functions as the object of the verb know.) David spoke with whoever was in charge at the moment. S V P C/S V (The noun clause whoever was in charge at the moment functions as the object of the preposition with.) What was said by the board members was completely out of order. C/S___V______________________ V S (Here the complete noun clause What was said by the board members functions as the subject for the verb was in the main clause.)
