Since 1937, Main Line Art Center has enriched the lives of artists of all ages, levels and abilities, as well as art appreciators, by offering high quality visual arts experiences through classes led by professional Teaching Artists, exhibition opportunities, artistic development and networking opportunities. Main Line Art Center still operates with the mission originally set forth by the passionate group of artists who founded our communitys home for creativity 75 years ago: To inspire and engage artistic creativity for all ages and abilities and to celebrate and strengthen the essential role of visual art in community life. We are guided by our core values: respect for individual creativity; a belief that everyone has the ability to learn and appreciate art; the belief that art is essential for balance and enrichment; and that that art is a catalyst for building community. The vision of Main Line Art Center is to maintain and further enhance its unique culture of creativity in the visual arts. The art program at Main Line Art Center explores traditional art forms while embracing innovative, forward-thinking, and contemporary ideas. Our strength lies in welcoming new techniques and new teaching methods that encourage people at all levels of ability in the community to create and appreciate art. Classes and workshops are offered yearround in areas such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry making, and printmaking. The Art Center offers up to ten annual exhibitions, including stretch and community exhibitions and seasonal fine crafts shows, that feature the work of established and emerging artists, many of whom are Members, faculty, and students.

We are committed to making art accessible to everyone and accomplish this by offering art programs for individuals of all ages and abilities, including a unique series of outreach programs for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, and by offering $12,000 in need-based scholarships from a restricted endowment to our students each year. More than 16,000 individuals, ages two to senior citizens, participated in our programs last year either as artists, students, or enthusiastic viewers.

Just two hours north of Philadelphia, Spring Hills Farm is an exquisite countryside retreat with hills, firs, ponds, and grasses as far as the eye can see...an amazing place to paint. The farms 400 acres as well as individual studios and gazebos allow the artist to gather important visual information. All meals are homemade, organic, and served in the warmth and hospitality of the Hulls family farm. Shuttle service to and from the farm is included. Trip includes instruction, art history, meals, bunkhouse accommodations, and many extras. Transportation to and from farm is $50, please register in advance. Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina

The Blue Ridge Mountains are one of the most beautiful landscape settings in the country and a wonderful place to paint. Join Philadelphia artist Leah Macdonald for two days of intensive instruction to learn the basics of combining photography and encaustic media. This workshop will be conducted in a stepby-step manner via lecture, demos and hands-on practice, with focus on understanding light and color in portraiture. Begin by drawing in charcoal, pencil and cont on toned paper to define directional light, texture and the illusion of space through line quality and shading. This invaluable, rigorous course will focus on the visual and aesthetic interactions of color on 2-D surfaces. Theories of colorists such as Itten and Albers provide a pivotal structure in which to explore distance color properties and functions. The main goal is to ensure a working understanding of the visual nature of color by training the eye to become highly sensitized and discerning. Students will contextualize this language of color by building a portfolio of painted and collaged compositional studies that will challenge creative expression.

Cancellations are normally made five days prior to start of class or workshop. Withdrawal/Refund Policy All refunds are subject to a $15 processing fee. An additional $35 fee will be charged for any withdrawal requests from a class or workshop five days prior to the first day of the class or workshop. Publicity Policy Main Line Art Center reserves the right to use photos taken during classes and other programs for publicity purposes. Registration in a class gives the Art Center permission to use images without further consent or compensation. From time to time, we share our mailing list with partner organizations so that customers can receive info about related cultural activities. Student Property The Art Center is not responsible for artwork and other property left on the premises and has no liability if such property is lost, stolen or damaged, except in instances when artwork is displayed in gallery exhibitions and covered by insurance. Artwork or property left two weeks after the semester ends will be discarded.

Emergency Forms Every child under the age of 18 is required to complete and submit a Child Emergency Form to the main office. Adult students are required to inform the main office if they have a medical condition that the staff or faculty should be aware of in the case of emergency. Forms are kept on file for one year unless there are updates or changes.
