Year 7 Life Skills Day Dear Parents On Friday the 11 May, all Year 7 students will participate in a Life Skills program that aims to foster resilience and improve their work habits. Girls will actively participate in workshops lead by the Resilience Doughnut Foundation, Learn4life (study skills) and a Mindfulness session. The Resilience Doughnut is a model for building resilience that considers both the internal qualities of a resilient person as well as the factors in the persons environment which support and interact with those internal qualities. It is based on a wide body of research. For details their website is http://www.theresiliencedoughnut.com.au/ Learn4life is an organisation specialising in How to Learn workshops. Students today need to be able to adapt to the increasing pace of change and the volume of information available to them. Information is now available to students at the touch of a button and it is necessary to be able to learn new things and manage all the information as they progress through school and life beyond. Their website is http://www.learn4life.com.au/ An introduction to Mindfulness with Ms Bosch - Head of Middle School and Ms McCann - Year 7 counsellor. Early training in mindfulness has the potential to enhance childrens attention and focus, and improve memory, selfacceptance, self-management skills and self-understanding. Ms Bosch and Ms McCann will lead specific exercises to model to the students what Mindfulness is all about. These exercises will be presented in progression, beginning with an awareness of the external and internal environment leading to an understanding that self-talk assists students to manage experiences.
