Project Title- Hospitality Industry in GujaratGoing Vibrant


India is the largest service industry, with a contribution of 6.23% to the national GDP and 8.78% of the total employment in India. In 2010, total Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) in India were 5.78 million and India generated about 200 billion US dollars in 2008 and that is expected to increase to US$375.5 billion by 2018 at a 9.4% annual growth rate. Gujarat, the seventh largest state in India, located in the western part of India with a coastline of 1600 km (longest in India). It is the tenth most popular state in the country for tourists with annual footfall of 18.9 million tourists.

Gujarat Past Trends.


Gujarat has been a tourist destination for a particular class of travellers especially in the festive season. The hotels on an average see occupancy of 50 % if calculated on a year to date basis. Hotel industry anticipates increased occupancy during this festive season in Gujarat with their focus more on domestic visitors rather than foreigners. The occupancy ratio at star-category hotels is expected to see sharp rise from 60-62 per cent at present to about 70-75 per cent during the four months of festivities during October-January. Gujarat government's promotional campaign under, 'Khushboo Gujarati Ki', is believed to attract good number of tourists from other parts of the country. "Nearly 5-7 per cent of an additional growth in tourist arrivals is expected mainly due to the state government's promotional campaign. We expect domestic tourists visiting

Gujarat offers many types of tourism like Business Tourism, Archeological & Heritage Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Religious Tourism, Wildlife Tourism, Medical Tourism and much more.

What it offers for the future...


Gujarat however initially did not have a lot of 5 star hotels but over a period of the last decade the hospitality industry has shown growth very distinctly. This project focuses on how the industry has developed over the period of the last 10 years. Initially the hotels only focused on the room sale and which was the prime revenue generating area in a hotel but gradually there has been a change in the entire business models of hotels in Gujarat. Various hospitality chains have introduced themselves in Gujarat today and various other reputed ones plan on doing the same in the near future. Today hotels also offers various features that werent offered initially hence in this report the focus will also be on what is it that becomes a USP for the project and what do hotels need to do today to sustain in the market which is seen changing in terms of guest demands every day . Besides the above mentioned points the report will also cover the likely trends that could develop in the time to come. What category and class of travellers and guests can be expected and what could be the impact of the local guest to the hospitality business.

The above mentioned points will be focused upon keeping in mind the various developments today and the changing trends in the hospitality sector. What can be the target sector of the hospitality sector can also be understood through this study and how do hotels manage to sustain and

continuously grow in a state which is definitely showing some vibrancy in showing hospitality. !

Interviews with a few industry experts will also be an integral part of the project which will help in understanding the industry from an insiders view. Their experience and hands on approach to deal with the current and future market trends can be understood through a questionnaire.
