Document Number 002255F June 2004

About This Document

This document is designed to aid in the process of replacing old operating software with new operating software in the ASA 312 or NAA 1 test set. Its intended audience is Digital Lightwave employees and Digital Lightwave Customers.

Introduction
The ASA 312 or NAA 1 Network Information Computer (NIC) allows you to Upgrade its operating software by transferring new files into the unit, replacing old files. This is accomplished by setting up a connection between the ASA 312 or NAA 1 and a desktop or laptop computer. Once the files are installed in the PC, they can then be transferred to the ASA 312 or NAA 1 across a connection. The operating files can be obtained in various ways. Some install procedures will vary depending on the type of connection desired and the configuration of the ASA 312 or NAA 1 being upgraded.

Important Notes
Before starting its important to be aware of several factors that can impact a successful upgrade:

Loading the wrong files into a product can prevent it from operating. Software files are specific to one of three product categories: ASA 312 portable units that have hardware based on a 386 processor. ASA 312 portable units that have hardware based on a 486 processor.

The NAA 1 product. < The software version (S/W) indicates the processor type:
<

Products with a 386 processor have a S/W version beginning with a 3. Products with a 486 processor have a S/W version beginning with a 4.

You MUST check the current software version BEFORE upgrading. < All upgraded units must be powered down before the new files can be utilized.
