HVAC Products 1 Overview
1.3 Safety

All equipment that is connected to the system must be CE marked and comply with the
Machine Safety Directive.
1.3.1 Requirements regarding personnel for installation and
start-up

Installation and start-up of ACX36.xxx/ALG may only be carried out by qualified
personnel who have relevant technical expertise and who are well acquainted with all
the safety and installation regulations.
1.3.2 Safety regulations

The following safety regulations do not relate solely to ACX36.xxx/ALG but also to the
regulators surroundings (e.g. control panel) and the technical plant in the property.

Observe all safety directions and comply with the corresponding general safety
regulations in order to prevent personal injury and damage to property.

Safety devices may not be removed, bypassed or taken out of operation.

Apparatus and system components may only be used in a technically fault-free
state. Faults that can affect safety must be rectified immediately.

Observe the required safety instructions against excessively high contact voltages.

The plant may not be in operation if the standard safety devices are out of
operation or if their effects are influenced in some other way.

All handling that affects the prescribed disconnection of the protective extra-low
voltage (AC 24 V) must be avoided.

Disconnect the supply voltage before opening the apparatus cabinet. Never work
when the power is on!

Avoid electromagnetic and other interference voltages in signal and connection cables.

Assembly and installation of system and plant components may only be performed
in accordance with corresponding installation instructions and instructions for use.

The following equipment must be protected against static charging: electronic
components, open printed circuit boards, freely accessible connectors and
apparatus components that are connected with the internal connection.

In this context, also observe necessary protective measures such as earthing, potential
equalisation, conducting surfaces (avoid highly insulating materials), etc.

1.4 Packing, transport and storage

The required packing of the system for storage and transport is dependent on the
mechanical and climate conditions.

Use the original packaging from Siemens or from the supplier when mechanical and
climate conditions have an impact on transport.

During transport under particularly difficult conditions, a special package must be used.

If the equipment is not to be installed immediately, store it in a well ventilated area,
protected against high temperatures, humidity, dust and metal particles.

For storage and transport, the limit values specified in data sheet CE2Q3226
always apply.
Contact your supplier or Siemens in the event of any uncertainty.
Damage that arises as a result of incorrect packing, storage or transport is not the
responsibility of Siemens.

1.5 Maintenance and service

All that is required to maintain ACX36.xxx/ALG is regular cleaning. System components
that are arranged within the control panel are most easily separated from dust and dirt
in conjunction with the prescribed maintenance checks.

Diagnostics, the rectifying of faults and restarting may only be carried out by authorised
staff. This also applies to work within the control panel (e.g. inspections, replacing
fuses).
In the event of unauthorised interventions, Siemens or IV product cannot undertake to
honour any guarantees. The responsibility for any damage that occurs in the system
and any consequential damage rests with whoever caused the damage.

1.6 Environmental protection and waste management

Process unit ACX36.xxx/ALG has no negative impact on the environment.

The apparatus includes electrical and electronic components and when discarded must
not be handled together with household waste. Current local legislation must always
be taken into consideration!

3.2.1 Levels

Access to data is hierarchically divided between three levels:
Operating level (level 0)
Configuration level (level 1)
Systemparameter level (level 3)

At operating level, the end user can read and alter current plant values, statuses,
reference values and time programs without having to specify a password.
By entering an approved password, access is gained to the configuration level, where it
is possible to read and alter all values that are accessible at both configuration and
operating level.

The parameter names are designations that describe the relevant parameter and that
usually comprise composite abbreviations.
Examples. Actsetp Actual setpoint

The parameter names are followed by values that can be read and altered.
3.2.2 Password

The password function protects against access to data and comprises four digits that
can be altered if necessary.

The predefined password to access the configuration level (level 1) is: 1000
The predefined password to access the systemparameter level (level 3) is: 2000

After accessing the configuration level, the user can alter the password by selecting
Change password under the Password function row. Level 2 and 4 should be used
for user defined passwords to have the predefined password left. The password level
below the level used for entering the system can be changed

If the factory-set password is altered, the predefined password is no longer present. To
reset the password, a higher password is required. Contact the supplier.
3.2.3 Menus

In the parameter overview section and in the description section, a grey-marked row
provides information about the selected menus that lead from the start page to the
parameter names or settings rows.

Depending on the type of configuration, some parameters/menus are not used and
consequently they are not displayed in HMI. The parameters/menus that are listed and
described in this basic documentation retain the same order, however. Some
parameters also have different options depending on the configuration.

4.2.4 Example Time switch program

As the day program applies to all days, it is possible to both give consideration to and
utilise the times when setting the week program and year program. Activation is set to
Actv for the switching occasions that are to apply.

Example of a possible setting of a week program with a 2-speed fan:
Weekdays: 07:00...10:00 St1, 10:00...20:00 St2 (apart from Wednesdays)
Wednesdays: 12:00...21:00 St2
Saturdays: 05:00...14:00 St1
Sundays and other times unit switched off.

The day program is set at the most widely used time (07:00 St1, 10:00 St2, 20:00 Off)
Switching
alternative
Switching time Operating
method
Activation
T1 07:00 St1 Actv
T2 10:00 St2 Actv
T3 20:00 Off Actv

The week program is set for all exceptions from the day schedule.

Wednesdays (12:00 St2, 21:00 Off)
As the day program always starts the unit at 07:00, consideration must first be given to
that time and only then may an exception be made in the morning. The Starting time
must then be some time before the starting time for the day program. The day program
is then used in the day and a new exception made in the evening in order to achieve
extended operation. The Starting time for extending a similar operating stage to the day
program can then start at some time during the time of the day program. No time for
Stop is required as the day program takes over immediately at the closing time for the
exception and the day programs setting at this time is already Off.

Saturdays (05:00 St1, 14:00 Off), Sundays (Off)
As the day program first starts the unit at 07:00 and then also sets the unit to St2 10:00,
an exception can then be made for the whole of the Saturdays operation. Finally, a
new exception must be made at the same time as the closing time for the exception
before in order for the unit to stop at 14:00, the exception can also be the whole of the
Sunday as the unit should be Off from Saturday 14:00 to Monday 07:00. The Closing
time for the Sunday must then be after the closing time for the day program.

4.2.5 Override time switch program

Menu / Scheduler / Override
For easy stop and start of the unit or to control the unit from a BMS system, the time
switch program can be overridden instead of change in the time program.
When the unit is overridden it remains in the desired position, until it sets back to Auto
and the time switch program has the control again.

Operating switch (Opmodeswi)

Overriding the time program, in order to stop or start the unit in the selected position.
In auto mode the unit is placed in operation in accordance with the time program, in
other modes the time program is overridden to the desired position. However, night
mode, control inputs and the service switch on HMI have a higher priority than the
operating switch. Displayed at the Serviceswitch as Manu when override.

BMS override

The time switch program can be overridden via communication from a BMS system.
This parameter shows the actual state, controlled from the BMS system.
In auto mode the unit is placed in operation in accordance with the time program, in
other modes the time program is overridden to the desired position. However, the
operating switch, night mode, control inputs and the service switch on HMI have a
higher priority than BMS override.

This parameter can be reset to Auto from the HMI if the communication to the BMS
system goes down. Contact the manufacturer for a higher password.

4.2.6 Current scheduler

Type of min/max limitation

In most control cases, fixed limitation is used, but for displacement ventilation with so-
called low-impulse units, a different temperature control is required than with normal
ventilation. A cascade control with sliding supply air limit (differential temperature
control) is then used, instead of fixed limit temperatures for the supply air.

The application is prepared to handle several variants, with various function set-ups
depending on variant. Only one variant is available in this version.

Macro 1 Air handling unit with separate starting of supply and exhaust air fans,
separate analog outputs for frequency controller. Three control sequences.

5.1.2 Configuration of temperature control (Control mode)

Adaptation of the regulator for different types of control. This applies to the choice of
main sensor, which can be a room sensor/unit, exhaust air sensor or supply air sensor.
When selecting cascade control, it is also necessary for room or exhaust air sensor to
be selected. When selecting constant supply air control, a room or exhaust air sensor
can be used for measurement/night operation etc. or can be deactivated.

Three different control modes can be selected:
Cascade control with limits for the supply air temperature.
Constant supply air control.
Climate adapted Cascade+Supply air control. Cascade control in summer and
constant supply air control in winter.

It is also possible to select between two different types of cascade control, see section
Min/Max supplytemperature for settings options of fixed or sliding limitation
(differential temperature control).

When selecting cascade control and a fault occurs in the main sensor or if a
mainsensor is missing (room/exhaust air sensor), supply air temperature control is
activated automatically to ensure that incorrect control values are not obtained. Main
sensor is selected automatically but if both a Roomunit and an Exhaust air sensor is
activated, then the main sensor can be selected in section Cascade control.

Start-up time for heat exchanger

By controlling the exchanger to 100% at start-up, the exhaust air fan heats the heat
exchanger, thereby preventing a cold shock in the water battery. When the unit is
started at an outside temperature colder than 12
o
C or if an outside sensor is missing,
the output signal is set to 100%. The heat exchanger returns to automatic mode, when
the supply air fan has started and the selected start-up time has elapsed.

Activation of cooling recovery

Parameter for activation of cooling recovery. Cooling recovery means that, in the event
that cooling is required and if the outside temperature is higher than the exhaust air
temperature, recovery (heat exchanger) starts at full power in order to utilise the cooling
energy from the room.

The outside temperature is compared to the room/exhaust air temperature. When the
outside air is warmer than the room air, the mixing damper is closed to the min limit,
alternatively the HRC system is controlled 100%. If the outside air is colder than the
room air, the mixing damper and the HRC system are controlled in the normal way.

Mixing damper or HRC system
Room/exhaust air sensor and outside temperature sensor
Parameter Cooling recovery set to On

Setpoint for protection against frosting

To protect the recovery circuit against icing, there is a built-in control function that, via a
temperature sensor in the used air or the return line (when liquid-borne recovery is
selected), ensures that the heat exchanger is defrosted. At low temperatures, the
output signal to the heat recovery is reduced in order to defrost the heat exchanger. In
the event the temperature falls even more, an alarm is generated (see Alarm frosting).

When the Set point is achieved, the exhaust air is transported away immediately in
order that the temperature at the exhaust air duct can increase again, thereby
preventing icing.

Activate by set the parameter Multifunction input 1 to HRC Frost.

Setpoint for frosting alarm

If the temperature drops below the set alarm value, a frost protection alarm is
generated (see above).

Max control signal at defrostning

If heat exchanger pressure switch is activated and this trips, the control signal to the
heat exchanger will be decreased so that defrosting can take place. For on/off-rotor, the
time for which the rotor rotates is limited. If the parameter is set to zero, the rotor stops
entirely in the event of a tripped pressure switch.

Activate by set the parameter Multifunction input 1 to Press grd.

Min. outside air volume at return air damper

The minimum outside air volume that is mixed with the return air is set with this
parameter in the event that heat recovery is required. In the event a unit has stopped,
the damper closes fully against outside air.

Start-up time return air

When the pre-heating time has expired, the fans start with outside and exhaust air
dampers closed (full return air) for a set period of time (Start-up Time). This prevents
cold outside air from blowing in at low outside temperatures.

Output signal for cooling is blocked
The pump in the heating circuit is running
Start-up of fans activated

The start-up time must be set higher than 0.0.
In the event of plants with outside temperature sensors, the start-up control is
only activated at outside temperatures below 15C. At outside temperatures
above 15C, the plant starts up normally, whereupon the damper can be
controlled in the normal way.
In the event of start-ups caused by Unoccupied heating or Night cooling,
there is no start-up control.
Only activated after a pre-heating time
The recovery function (heat exchanger) must be set at the return air damper
5.5.3 Heating

Menu / Configuration / Control parameters / Heating
Settings to configure heating optimally.

Preheating time

Water-heated air heaters are sensitive to frost. If the air conditioning unit is switched off
at night and there are low outside temperatures at start-up, the sudden supply of cold
outside air would cause the water in the pipes to freeze. This problem is particularly
tangible in conjunction with 2-position dampers.
In order to circumvent this, the water circuit is preheated with hot water before the
outside and exhaust air damper is opened. At start-up, only the air heaters heating
circuit pump starts and the heating valve opens depending on the prevailing outside
temperature for an adjustable period of time. The risk of freezing damage is eliminated,
and the unit then switches to normal control.

NOTE! When using a long pre-heating time, the result may be the opposite, i.e. the
heater battery may get too warm, which causes the heater battery and the heat
exchanger to close at start-up, since there is no longer any heat demand. This may
cause great variations in the start-up.
The pump in the heating circuit is running
The valve opens to 100%.
Outside temperature sensor connected
Preheating time > 0.0 s
Outside temperature < 5 C

Min. temperature air heater (water) during operation

functionality. See also section for temperature control.

Cascade sensor

Selection of main sensor if both a roomunit and a exhaust air sensor is connected.

Change between cascade/supply air control

With control type Casc/Supply (cascade control and supply air control) selected, the
control types will shift depending on the outside temperature.

To avoid pendulating between the control types, a selectable time must elapse before
the change-over takes place.

Cascade control normally use a higher setpoint than supply air control, therefore it is
possible to compensate the basic setpoint for the cascade control when shifting to
supply air control to avoid manually adjustment.

In order to get the best result, the outside sensor should be placed on the facade and
not in the outside air duct, where the sensor may be warmed up when the unit is
switched off.

Temperature compensation

When shifting to supply air control, the basic setpoint compensates to the set value.
This parameter can also be found under section Setpoints.

Change-over at set outside temperature

When the outside temperature falls below the set value, the control type changes to
supply air control after a preset time.

using this parameter. When activated the fans runs at the selected step (see below) in
the set time.
If a timer (egg-timer) is used, this parameter must be set to 0 as the time function is
then in the actual timer.

Fuction of control input

Selection of function at activated control input.
The unit can be stopped or be started at the selected fan step.

Airing in event of external stop

Selection if airing of the electric battery must take place in event of external stop.

5.6.5 Unoccupied

Menu / Configuration / Parameters / Unoccupied mode
At the end of the occupancy time, the plant is switched off (via timeswitch program).
The room temperature will then fall or rise, depending on the prevailing weather
conditions and internal loads. The Unoccupied heating mode or Unoccupied cooling
mode function is activated to ensure that no excessively low or high room
temperatures will occur. The fans run at Max speed.

Unoccupied heating

When the room temperature drops below the set limit value, the Unoccupied heating
function is started. In this case, the heating is maintained until the room temperature is
1 Kelvin above the limit value. If only the exhaust air sensor is used, start-up takes
place at night to see whether unoccupied heating is required. When starting up
unoccupied heating, the exhaust air fan and/or outside air damper is blocked in
accordance with the set parameter.
A delayed reconnection time guarantees that the plant is not switched on too often.

Fan will be switched on
Air heater control is activated
Output signal for cooling is blocked
HRC (if selected) is activated
Damper (if selected) is blocked, the return air damper is opened

Room/exhaust air temperature sensor connected
Timeswitch program must be off
External switch must not be On
The parameter (Htgunocpd) must be in the On position
The room temperature drops below (Limitheating)
The delayed reconnection time (Minrestarttime) has expired

Unoccupied cooling

When the room temperature exceeds the set limit value, the Unoccupied cooling
function is started. In this case, the room is cooled until its temperature is 1 Kelvin
below the set limit value. If only the exhaust air sensor is used, start-up takes place at
night to see whether unoccupied cooling is required.
A delayed reconnection time guarantees that the plant is not switched on too often.

Activation unoccupied heating/cooling

Parameter for activation/deactivation of the unoccupied heating/cooling function.

Blocking unoccupied

In the event of unoccupied heating, the outside air damper can be blocked and the
return air damper opened so that the system only turns over and heats up the return
air. The exhaust air fan can also be blocked.

Limit value for unoccupied heating/cooling

Parameter for setting the temperature limit value for start-up if the unoccupied
heating/cooling function is used.

Setting minimum restart time in event of unoccupied

Parameter for setting the minimum restart time for the function unoccupied. This refers
to the delay before support operation may go in again after previously having been
active.

Delay before temperature is tested

This parameter can also be found under menu Nightpurging.

Parameter for setting the time for which the unit must be stationary before the
temperature is tested. This function is used when there is no room sensor, and the unit
has to be started at night in order to detect the current temperature of the exhaust air.
The unit starts up and operates for five minutes. If the temperature is within the
condition for unoccupied heating/cooling, the unit switches into this operating mode.
5.6.6 Night purging

Menu / Configuration / Parameters / Night purging
Night cooling is used during the summer to utilise the free cooling energy in the outside
air by cooling the rooms with the cool outside air at night.
If only the exhaust air sensor is used, start-up takes place at night to see whether night
cooling is required. The fans run at Max speed.
Night cooling should be in operation for several hours at night a minimum of 1 hour.
However, the temperature may not fall so low that heating energy has to be supplied.

Fan will be switched on
Output signal air heater is blocked
Output signal air cooler is blocked
HRC (if selected) is blocked
Damper (if selected) is opened, the return air damper is closed

Night cooling will be activated if these conditions are satisfied. When one of the general
conditions is no longer satisfied (apart from the most recent which is only a switch on
condition), night cooling is deactivated when min. operation time has expired.

Activation

Parameter for activation of night cooling.

Room setpoint

The temperature the must be achieved through night ventilation.

Min. outside temperature

The night cooling function is blocked when the outside temperature is lower than the
set value.

Hysteresis

A hysteresis is added to the room setpoint as a switch on condition, but not as a switch
off condition. The total value must be higher than the current room temperature.

Delta

When the outside temperature drops by the entered difference (delta) below room
temperature, night cooling is activated on the condition that the limit values for room
and outside temperature have been achieved.

Min. operating time

Setting a min. operating time for night cooling guarantees that the plant is not switched
on and off too often.

5.6.7 Test smoke damper

Menu / Configuration / Parameters / Test smokedamper
Activation takes place by setting AUX input 2 to IndDamper.

A smoke damper test runs at the selectable time, at manual test and if Outdamper is
selected it runs at every start/stop of the unit as well.
Fixed delay time to stop fans before dampers and to open dampers before fan start.
Should a damper assume an incorrect position (detected via limit positions contacts),
an alarm will be issued.

Smoke dampers must be connected as the instruction for correct functionality.

Time for test

Setting when the smoke damper test will occur.

Smoke damper, opening time

Setting of smoke dampers opening time. The alarm will be blocked during that time.

5.6.8 Start-up

Menu / Configuration / Parameters / Start-up

Power-up start delay

With the power-up start delay, the switch on of the air conditioning unit is delayed after
a power failure. The power network would be overloaded if all the buildings electrical
installations were started up at the same time.
