Global Warming
Svante Arrhenius (1859-1927) was a Swedish scientist that was the first to claim in 1896 that fossil fuel combustion may eventually result in enhanced Global Warming. There is a little doubt that planet is warming. What is global warming? The planets temperature has risen by around 1 Fahrenheit (0,6 Celsius). Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are dying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. If the ice caps melt, a vast majority of our countries border will be under water. Monuments and great buildings, as well as homes and lives will be under water, including New York City. Human caused most of the past centurys warming by releasing heat-trapping gases called Greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide), and the levels are getting higher now than the past 650,000 years. We call the result Global warming, but its causing a set of changes to the Earths climate, or long-term weather patterns that varies from place to place. What will we do to slow this warming? How will we cope with this changes weve already set into motion? Let me explain about the causes and effects of Global Warming.

Global Warming Causes:

1. Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants. 2. Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline from transportations. 3. Methane emissions from animals, agricultural such as rice paddies and from Arctic seabeds. 4. Deforestation, especially tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland. 5. Increase in usage of chemical fertilizers.

Global warming Effects:

1. Ice is melting worldwide, especially Earths poles. This includes mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice. 2. Sea level rise became faster over the last century. 3. Precipitation (rain and snowfalls), has increased across the globe, on average.

4. Hurricanes and other storms are likely to become stronger. 5. Widespread extinction of species. 6. Ecosystems will change some species will move farther or become more successful. 7. Floods and droughts become more common. 8. Some disease will spread, such as malaria carried by the mosquitoes.

Greenhouse Effect

Greenhouse effect is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earths atmosphere trap heat. Scientists have known about the greenhouse effect since 1824, when Joseph Fourier calculated that the Earth would be much colder if it had no atmosphere. Green house effect is what keeps the Earths climate livable. Without it, the Earths surface would be an average of about 60 Fahrenheit cooler. In 1895, Svante Arrhenius stated that humans could enhance the greenhouse effect by making carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Levels of greenhouse gases (GHGs) have gone up and down over the Earth's history, but they have been fairly constant and stable for the past few thousand years. Global average temperatures have stayed fairly constant over that time as well, until recently. Through the burning of fossil fuels and other GHG emissions, humans are enhancing the greenhouse effect and warming Earth. Occasionally, other factors briefly influence global temperatures. Volcanic eruptions, for example, emit particles that temporarily cool the Earth's surface. However, these have no lasting effect beyond a few years. Other cycles, such as El Nio, also work on fairly short and predictable cycles. Scientists often use the term "climate change" instead of global warming. This is because as the Earth's average temperature climbs, winds and ocean currents move heat around the globe in ways that can cool some areas, warm others, and change the amount of rain and snow falling. As a result, the climate changes differently in different areas.

So we already know about the global warming cause and effect. How can we as individuals do our part to help save the planet?

These are some solutions:

1. Plant a tree. When the tree fully grown, will help keep the planet cooler. 2. Walking instead of taking the car, will help reduce the pollution. 3. When youre at home, and getting a little cold, put a jumper on and do not adjust the heating. The extra heat produced by our home will affects the planet. 4. Use solar energy if possible. 5. Reduce, reuse and recycle. Only buy what you need. 6. Turning off unused sources power such as televisions and heaters will help the environment, as well as you save the money.

If everybody stuck to this rules, we would be doing a great thing by protecting the earth. So please take into consideration about all that I have said, and try to do your part. After all, it will be our next generation that will feel the effects.
