All in a sudden, I am surprised to realize that it is the time to select your graduate students to enter our DDMP program. Although now is a little bit late to start the process for selecting the UI DDMP students, we still can make it up if we can expedite processing steps. This year we will reserve DDMP scholarship for one to three (1-3) graduate students from UI to enter our graduate school. Please begin to proceed the procedure to select your DDMP candidate students and inform me their names no later than March 23, 2012 (Will this deadline be possible?). I would like to suggest to have about four UI DDMP candidate students on this regard. In order to facilitate the whole process, would you please ask these prospective UI DDMP students to send the following three sets of documentsthrough the e-mail to me (tpchang@mail.ntust.edu.tw) and my colleague Mr. Fang (fang@mail.ntust.edu.tw) no later than March 25, 2012, for our review? (Note: They still MUST to register at our website (http://www.admission-e.ntust.edu.tw/front/bin/ptlist,3.phtml) and fill out all the required forms to complete the whole registration before the deadline of March 31, 2012 for all the international students.) 1. Undergraduate and graduate transcripts to show the academic performance. (1) Scanned official transcript in English or a certified translation in English with course names, credits and grades of all undergraduate courses taken at undergraduate study;

(2) Scanned official transcript in English or a certified translation in English with course names, credits and grades of all graduate courses taken at the first semester of first year at CE- UI (Civil Engineering, UI). (3) Scanned official document showing the course names and credits of all graduate courses in English currently taking at the second semester of first year at CE- UI. Note: After the qualified UI DDMP graduate students are admitted to CE-NTUST (Construction Engineering, NTUST), they still need to turn in their official paper transcripts in English or a certified translation in English for two semesters of the first year at CE- UI upon their arrival and registration to CE-NTUST in July/August. 2. A proof of English fluency. The candidate students of CE- UI must submit the proof of English proficiency, for example, a TOFEL score of about 550 (paper-based score, PBT)/213 (computer-based score, CBT)/80 (New International based score, IBT) or a TOEIC score of 750-800. They may submit other proofs of English proficiency on the equivalent level. Then the CE-NTUST will conduct an oral interview with them one-by-one either through the internet video system such as the Skype webcam connecting CE-NTUST and CE- UI, or fly to CE- UI with a face-toface interview if feasible. 3. A brief statement of one to three planned major fields of dual degree Master research at CE-NTUST. The candidate students of CE- UI must submit one page of brief statement, for the purpose of evaluation by CE-NTUST, saying one to three planned major field in sequence from the following five research fields at CE-NTUST and planned one or two research subjects: 1) Structural Engineering; 2) Geotechnical Engineering; 3) Construction Management; 4) Construction Material; 5) Construction Information Technology (incorporating with fields of Structural Engineering/Construction Material)/ Geotechnical Engineering/ Construction Management.) Of course, the candidate students are still totally free and flexural to change the planned research subject(s) after they have discussed with their degree advisors of CE-NTUST.

Dear Prof. CHANG, I am verry sorry to let you waiting for so long my answer. Please find enclosed (attachment) my answer for some questions and remarks leading to our cooperation. For our candidat in CE-NTUST, Mr. Nuraziz Handika, actually he is already got 18 Credits since semester one and than now 16 credits in on-going semester two. At the end of June 2011, in total he will got 34 Credits. My question according Nuraziz, it is possible for him only take research activity for his Thesis during his study at CE-NTUST? Warm Regards, Irwan KATILI. 2011/3/1 Bondan T. Sofyan <bondan@eng.ui.ac.id>
Dear Prof. Chang, Thanks for the documents. Prof. Katili and his team will look at it and get back to you soon. Sorry for the guidebook, it is in Bahasa Indonesia. Anyway, hope that my short information on the curriculum is sufficient for the time being. Thanks and regards, Bondan

Dear Prof. Bondan, Thanks for your prompt response to my e-mail. Indeed, the rector of UI and the president of NTUST had signed an Agreement on the Dual Degree Masters Program on May 11, 2009 already. However, there exist some ambiguous provisions in the Agreement, e.g. Articles 5.1 and 9.3, which need to be clarified /amended very shortly. But I totally agree that we still can adopt the essence and general principle in the agreement to run the Dual Degree Masters Program (DDMP) between CE-UI and CE-NTUST beginning from now without the necessity for signing another MoU or MoA (Memorandum of Agreement) between our two CE departments.

The proposal of signing a supplemental detailed guidance, referring to the existing Agreement, for faculty members and DDMP students to conduct DDMP between two CE departments, like Articulation Schedule, is a good idea. Enclosed please find the draft of such Articulation Schedule. Please kindly provide your comments/suggestions/modifications on the draft. But, since it is not extremely critical and urgent, even we cannot sign it in this month, we still can run this DDMP between our two CE departments. If possible I still hope to have your graduate DDMP students come to CENTUST at August, 2011. The current curriculum structure of CE-UI looks excellent for us because all of them have 3 credits and have similar course titles to those of ours. I also have accessed the webside (http://www.eng.ui.ac.id/download/S2_FTUI.pdf.) to look at the handbook. Unfortunately, it is written in Indonesian language.

Best regards, Ta-Peng Chang

Dear Prof. Chang, Thanks for your email. It was indeed a pleasure to host your team here at UI. An agreement on the Dual Degree Program between UI and NTUST is in place already. Please see the attachment. So, I dont think we need to make another MoU for this. But I agree to have a detailed agreement, in regard with the credit transfer, minimum scores etc, as a guidance for us and the students. So, instead of having an MoU, I propose to have an Articulation Schedule, referring to the existing MoU, and consisting the technical details of the program. The Articulation Schedule is to be signed between the two Heads of Department. Attached is the current curriculum structure of the M.Eng Civil at UI, which I take from the Handbook. The whole handbook can be access through:http://www.eng.ui.ac.id/download/S2_FTUI.pdf. Thanks and regards, Bondan
