Title of Unit: Consumers & Producers Title of Lesson: What is a consumer?

1. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson is designed to give students information about what a consumer is. 2. Target Population: grade level:1st grade skill level: students at all grade levels grouping: whole group discussion, small group discussion, independent notes.

3. Objectives: E9.1.2 Identify a consumer. 4. Procedure: 1. The teacher will have students free write what they think of when they hear the word consumer. 5 min. 2. Have students discuss with their group what they wrote down. After students have shared what they wrote down a member from each group will pick one idea whatever they think is best. 7 min 3. Teacher will read and write down each answer given and then discuss that a consumer is someone who buys or uses goods and services. An example is when you go buy food you are a consumer because you buy what people are making. 10 min 4. Now that students have the definition of a consumer have them discuss in groups other things they can think of that are consumers? 8 min 5. The teacher will have each group this time give the class what they came up with. Together as a group they will look over each one and see if it is a consumer or not and why. 10 min 6. The teacher will go over the definition again and this time will provide more examples of consumers and have the students write them down. 10 min 7. Assessment: An informal assessment for day 1 would be to make sure that each student is contributing to both their group discussion and whole group discussion. I will walk around during the small group discussion to make sure they are participating. 8. Reflection:

What skills do students need in order to be successful with this lesson? - Students will need to be able to use what they just learned and apply it to real life situations they have seen. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

To follow up this lesson I will have students learn about producers which consumers buy from. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? - I will work with students who dont grasp the concepts when the students are discussing in small group. Where do you anticipate having problems with this lesson? I can anticipate that the students might find it hard as an individual to find examples of consumers in real life.
