Time spent on Facebook per day

Introduction: In this years mathematics statistics, each student had to make their own survey that relate to statistics then send it out to their audience. For my mathematics survey on the statistics project, I chose to ask and interview year 8 students. Background Now days, Facebook is very popular. People worldwide use it to communicate and share ideas together because it is the most efficient way to communicate. However, I am concerned that using too much Facebook will impact peoples lives in the future. My research question will tell you how Facebook has impacted year 8 students at NIST. The topic question I chose was How much time do you spend on Facebook per day? The survey was made up of two questions; one of them was On average, how much time do you spend on Facebook per day? The second one was What do you do when you are on Facebook? My Research Question: How much time do you spend on Facebook per day? My Hypothesis: Most of them would spend at least 2 hours on Facebook per day. Area of Interaction: The area of Interaction that fits my project the most is human ingenuity. Human Ingenuity is when something develops, changes styles or when humans have created something new. This relates to

my questions because Facebook keeps improving, changing and getting better known worldwide. New development in technology can have a huge effect in our lives. Everybody always wants to own the latest gadget because it looks cool. This is one way that we spend our money on something that we dont really need in our life. I chose to do it by Survey Monkey. After I sent my survey out, most of the results came the day after. At first, there were 48 people who answered. Although people answered with reasonable answers, there were some people who skipped the questions. Day by day, more people answered and complete the survey. After 5 days, the number of people who answered increased. The final number was about 100 people. The data that I have collected from the people are very good. There were no unreasonable answers. Very few people skipped some questions. I think it is mostly because the survey is short and the questions are easy to understand. The two most useful graphs that would work best for this research are the pie graph and column graph. The pie graph is good for this survey and project because it can show the percentages on

each section and is very easy to read. For the column graph, it is easy to read for the numbers of people. I dont really think that the percentages parts on the pie chart are not too important so I chose to write and analyze my results on a column graph. Nevertheless, both graphs are good to use but I recommend the column graph more because it can tell people the exact number. Analysis Method The easiest calculations are the mean, median, mode and range. It is the easiest because once you have the data; the rest is just finding the answers and calculating. Results and Conclude The results show that most of the people that answered the question answered with 0-30 min per day. This kind of surprised me because I first thought that most kids my age and up would spend at least 2 hours on social networking per day average. There were only 5 out of 58 who answered 1.5-2 hours. This finding is a good thing because if kids spend too much time on Facebook per day, their learning results might go down because they are too busy chatting or playing games online. Limitations of Studies & Implications for Future Research If I had a chance to do this project again, I would improve it by dividing the genders boy and girls. Most girls would spend more time on learning than on Facebook, so next time, I could know which gender answered what and I could compare it. What could be improved in the data collecting part was that I could have forced them to answer every question by setting the survey and make the person unable to leave without answering every question, and then they can click finish on the survey. This way,

there will be more results to me. Another accurate way is to divide the genders because I dont exactly know who answered what. Reference: 1.
