There is an ongoing debate throughout the country in which some states have deemed it illegal to own a Pitbull terrier

dog. Loads of negative press surround these animals and their aggressive behavior. They have been called the deadliest of their kind and society has been instilled with fear of their type. I believe it has all given the breed a bad repertoire. Its out right unjust to the poor animal who is only acting out secondary to its teachings. I hope to, if not completely change your mind, give you a better understanding of this breeds aggression and why they should not be faulted entirely for their actions. Cities and counties in at least 11 U.S. states report enacting a breed-specific pit bull law. These states include: Rhode Island, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, California, Kansas, Nebraska, Maryland, Iowa, Missouri, and Washington. The providence of Ontario has also adopted the pit bull ban. Those who oppose of the law continue make several points to argue that the law does not in fact make a community safer which was the initial argument of the Lawmakers. The law in fact fails to address the real issue when it comes to dog bites regardless of breed. Lawmakers in favor based this law on false data and it is impossible to properly enforce because of the mixes in breeds and because dogs with the same physical characteristics are being placed in the pit bull category when in reality they arent. http://stubbydog.org/2011/07/12-reasons-tooppose-breed-discriminatory-legislation/ (For these reasons and more, the Centers for Disease Control, the American Kennel Club, National Animal Control Association, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Humane Society of the United States, and American Veterinary Medical Association all oppose BDL and suggest more effective breed-neutral solutions to reducing dog bites and making communities safer, such as the AVMAs community approach to dog bite prevention. Calgarys Responsible Pet Ownership law is also frequently cited as an example of a successful breed-neutral law.)

Its sort of like the old saying goes You cant teach an old dog new tricks Dogs have a strong connection to their past; abused and abandoned dogs are no different. How can a dog who has been taught to fight his entire life, is locked in a cage, or tied up, undernourished, who does not get the exercise or attention he requires be expected to behave as a normal dog would. Just like humans, dogs are creatures of habit and can behave the only way it knows how. So, if a dog is raised as a fighting/attack dog thats the only life he knows. He will fight to his death as he was taught if he feels in any way threatened. (The pit bull terrier is the breed of choice for criminals. This choice is directly linked to the pit bull's selectively bred traits of robust jaw strength, a deadly bite style, tenacity (gameness) and a high tolerance to pain.) http://www.dogsbite.org/dangerousdogs-pit-bull-faq.php A clear example of using the power of this race in a negative way. If the dog is taught aggression he will show aggression. A Pitbulls nature is to be Sweet, full of curiosity, a smart dog who simply wants attention. If properly trained, a

pitbull can be as playful and loveable as any other breed and although he can also be aggressive towards other dogs if appropriately supervised he can be playful rather than hostile. But, the fact that they fall in the hands of the wrong people and are then blamed for using what is merely an animal instinct heightened by its living environment still remains. During my research I repeatedly stumbled across articles on Cesar Millan who is best known as "The Dog Whisperer" stemming from his hit television show. He is a well known figure in pit bull circles. He has a self proclaimed love of pit bulls and has even showcased his talent with the breed with his affectionate and obedient dog Daddy on his show. An American Pit Bull Terrier who typically is stereo typed as a vicious, ferocious, and untrustworthy dog, Daddy is far from this description. He is Mr. Millans model dog, used as a key element in his training both on and off the show. Daddy has actually served as an essential tool in Millans quest to reshape the public's perception of pit bulls and Id like to think he is slowly but surely bettering it. In an article about the infamous dog trainer (Cesar Millan is right to emphasize the importance of exercise and the role insufficient physical activity plays in many canine behavioral problems. While not a cure-all, increasing the amount of exercise your dog gets almost always results in a happier and better behaved canine companion. And of course exercise is particularly important for high energy breeds such as pit bulls.) http://www.pitbulls.org/article/cesar-millan-good-and-bad. The snippet is further proof that there is no problem stemming from the actual breed rather from their owners and the incorrect and at times abusive approach to raising the dog. Every animals has needs and wants and when we as humans with the capibility of making a conscious decision decide to take in a pet we should educate ourselves on such. Even Colleen Lynn, who is the founder of Dogsbite.org, and agrees with the Pit bull Ban stated. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Pitbulls-Safe-or-Dangerous124301779.html (We know not all pit bulls are going to attack, she said. Pit bulls are not born vicious, they are born dangerous. If youre going to own one you need to know. Lynn believes both genetics and a dogs surroundings play a role in dog attacks. Theres no question that environment can play a role, Lynn said. But pit bulls bite, clamp, hold and shake. Thats totally genetic.) Argumentively I could make a comparison to the human species and ask; Should muscular men like the muscular dogs be banned from society simply because of the potential threat their powerful punch or in the dogs case their bite poses to others? No. Just because a muscular man can knock you out doesnt mean he will. Same goes for the muscle dogs.

(But beyond the rumors about the iron grip of this, most American Pit Bull Terrier is not a threat in places where little kids are. They know their strengths. Rarely do they invade the children on purpose, unless forced to (This is the reason why there needs to exercise). Although somehow, American Pit Bull Terrier should not be allowed to meet with other dogs without supervision. His attitude is aggressive towards other dogs can cause an attack.) http://www.lilopet.com/2011/08/american-pit-bull-terrier/

There have been several heroic pitbull stories that have not been publicized nearly as much as the ones tainting the dogs reputation where pit bulls have saved a life instead of taking one http://www.understand-abull.com/Articles/HeroicPitties/2007/Pepperpitbullsavesfamilyfromfire0607.pdf (When fire broke out the home at 312 Cameron Street just before 8:00 Saturday morning, Pepper the pit bull proved her worth as a watchdog. "If it weren't for my dog, we probably wouldn't have made it out the house," says Justin Pickens, who lived at the house. The dog really saved us," Justin says.)
