The Coldest Place on Earth


General Instructions: Draw or create a face cover for your work. You must put everything that you work on in your orange folder in order. The work will not be accepted on the notebook or on pages that are not inside the orange folder. Please do good handwriting or else you will have to repeat it. Also be careful for the proper use of punctuation marks and capital letters at the beginning of each sentence.

Work on a Word wall. List vocabulary on a word wall in the class on large pieces of paper for periodic reference, review, and use in writing. Also look for the definition and write it next to the word. This must be done constantly until the end of chapter 9. At the end of the book, this vocabulary will be evaluated.
Week 1: Predicting and Monitoring comprehension Predicting Predicting helps students to: Focus in possible scenarios and context of the reading they will start. Attach new content to previously acquired knowledge. Relate different ideas with a purpose. Day 1 Activity 1: Based on the title, the illustrations on the front and back covers and the small description of the book, write in 50 words what you think the book will be about. Students will keep their predictions, so they can contrast them with the events that take place. Day 2 Activity 1: Work on Before Reading activities on pages 44 and 45. You have to copy the questions and also answer them immediately. Remember to work on your own pages. Remember to put them in your orange folder with a face cover for the book that youre reading.

Day 1: Answer the While Reading Activity on pages 48, 49 and 50 only exercises 1, 2 and 3. Remember to answer this on a piece of paper and put it in your folder. You have to copy the Instructions, and the questions that are there. Day 2: Answer the While Reading Activity on page 51 only exercises 4, 5 and 6. Remember to answer this on a piece of paper and put it in your folder. You have to copy the Instructions, and the questions that are there. Day 3: From chapters 1, 2 and 3 find all the common nouns that are there and write them down on your page. When there are twenty minutes left in the class, you are going to get in groups of four. You will write a sentence using the first noun, and then you will change it with your

partner in clockwise order. Then the next student will write a sentence with the next noun trying to create a story with those nouns. Day 4: You will transcribe all the sentences that were written on your page the previous day and you will draw a Cover and put a title for your story. Day 1: From chapters 4, 5 and 6 find all the verbs that are there and write them down on your page. When there are twenty minutes left in the class, you are going to get in groups of four (new group). You will write a sentence using the first verb, and then you will change it with your partner in clockwise order. Then the next student will write a sentence with the next verb trying to create a story with those verbs. Day 2: You will transcribe all the sentences that were written on your page the previous day and you will draw a Cover and put a title for your story. Day 3: From chapters 7, 8 and 9 find all the adjectives that are there and write them down on your page. When there are twenty minutes left in the class, you are going to get in groups of four (another new group). You will write a sentence using the first adjective, and then you will change it with your partner in clockwise order. Then the next student will write a sentence with the next adjective trying to create a story with those verbs. Day 4: You will transcribe all the sentences that were written on your page the previous day and you will draw a Cover and put a title for your story. On day 4 you will have to return the book to the library in the English period. On that day you will be given a short test regarding the book read. You will take it home and will have to bring it answered the next day. The librarian will have the instruction that you cant rent the book anymore. Remember that all the steps are worth points for your second term zone. Week 5
