Overview

The following table shows the total number of visits to 649 visitor attractions in Scotland in 2011 and shows the split between those who visited paid and free admission attractions, including and excluding the National Museum of Scotland (NMS) and the new Riverside Museum (Riverside), in the Free Admission categories, which have both impacted positively on 2011 visits figures. Extensive refurbishment of the National Museum of Scotland and re-launch in July 2011 resulted in a significant increase in visits figures for 2011, impacting on overall findings. The opening of the new Riverside Museum at Glasgow Harbour in June 2011 significantly impacted on visits figures for 2011. Dundee Contemporary Arts and Gretna Green Famous Blacksmiths Shop are free entry attractions with small paid elements.
