To understand the stakeholder theory in depth three questions were designed.

The first question was about the frequency and occurrence of stakeholder articles in journals on the basis of country and sectors. The second question gives us the overview of the stakeholder definitions for 25 years. And the third question is for the drivers of the stakeholders theory. So questions were Divulgence, understanding and drivers. The methodology of the research was to find the stakeholder articles within the project management journals. The first step was to select the relevant journals. Four journals were selected IJPM, PMJ, IJMPB, and IJPOM. In these journals all the articles from 10984 to 2009 were reviewed. Articles were reviewed by the keyword stakeholder. In this step four databases were built for the four selected journals. From the survey answer of the first question was found and it was seen that all in all 116 articles were found from all four journals which consisted the keyword stakeholder in either abstract, title or keywords. It was also found that 63 percent of all the stakeholder articles in 2009 are from case studies. It was also found that UK, Australia and U.S.A are the top three countries respectively in issuing most stakeholder articles and it is clear that for these countries stakeholder are important issue. UL issued 26 percent of all the stakeholder articles from 116 articles selected, Australia issued 16 percent articles and U.S.A issued 15 percent stakeholders articles. It was also observed by the survey that stakeholder issue is not limited to one or two industrial sectors this issue is important for all the industrial sectors and it was seen that from 1984 to 2009 many industrial sectors were included in the stakeholder articles. So the stakeholders are important for almost all the industrial sectors. In all 116 articles 28 definitions of stakeholders were found and among those 28 definitions, 22 definitions were unique, either defined by the author himself or by some other author. In these 22 varieties of definitions, there were only two main different types of definitions; one is stated by Freeman a stakeholder in an organization is any group or individual who can affect or is affected by the achievement of the organizations objectives another is by Cleland who have a vested interest in the outcome of the project. The definitions were categorized in three groups which were called Type I, Type II and Type III. The evolution of the stakeholder definition started in 1984. The time period from 1984 to 2009 is divided into two Eras one is the era before 2002 and one era is after 2002. The era before 2002 is dominated by the type I definition and the era after 2002 is dominated by the Type II and Type III definition groups.
