Tomher Environmental Sdn Bhd has been appointed as the system designer and installer mid 2010 to solve the sewage disposal problem which has long plagued the island since its establishment. The entire project took 6 months from the initial site survey to the final commissioning/ observation of the system. However, the actual fabrication & installation took merely 2.5 months to complete. Prior to the adoption of Tomher Infinity BioSolv system, there had been various systems being installed/ modified but with little success. The diagram below shows the history of the systems that were previously installed and used until Infinity BioSolv has been adopted. The exact time of the installation for other systems installed is unknown but the chronological order is illustrated.
Timeline Ozone Infinity BioSolv system Concrete Septic Tank Concrete Septic Tank With Ozone Added in the septic tank Hydroponics (HTS) Enhanced Extended Aeration (Biological Treatment Plant)
Hydroponics is NOT wastewater treatment system. It is only a polishing system. Achieve the same effluent standard B
Achieved lower BOD and SS than Malaysian Effluent Standard A. Chemsains report: BOD: 5.82 mg/L SS: 16 mg/L
NOT suitable for environmentally sensitive areas such as islands, riverside, shoreline establishment
The use of ozone generator in septic tank is a Big NO NO. Ozone kills off the anaerobic bacteria needed for digestion
Hydroponics is a good secondary add-on if the right primary wastewater treatment system is adopted

In our initial site survey and study, we have found that the previous systems installed were not designed for application at areas which are environmentally sensitive especially where it comes in contact with the water source nearby. Septic tank is designed to only achieve Malaysian Effluent Standard B which is BOD: 50mg/L and SS: 100mg/L and is not capable of constantly maintaining at this level due to the accumulation of sludge in the system over time. Unless regular desludge of every 9 months is carried out, septic system is absolutely NOT suitable for this application. It is not a surprise that the previous systems installed were unable to meet the effluent requirement as the wrong primary treatment system was being applied. The solution is very simple! It is the matter of applying the correct and suitable Primary Treatment system. The primary treatment system must be capable of achieving Malaysian Effluent Standard A (BOD: 20mg/L and SS: 50mg/L) regardless of whether a secondary and/or tertiary treatment system is being used. It is important to point out that such system has to be an automated system where desludging can be carried out without the need of special desludging equipment which is often very complicated when the location is either remote or hard to access. In order to cause the least disruption to the normal operation of the resort, a complementing solution was mapped out to discard the problematic septic system, and Tomher Infinity BioSolv primary treatment system was installed as the ultimate replacement.

Often than not, the existing septic tank can be converted into a balancing sump to balance out the diurnal effect of the influent from the facility. In the case of Lankayan project, a new balancing sump has to be constructed as the existing septic tank is found to be not suitable. Tomher Infinity BioSolv primary treatment system is then being installed before the hydroponic (HTS) system. The hydroponic system is maintained merely as a secondary treatment system which functioned as a polishing system and a green initiative to make use of the nutrients left in the effluent for growing crops.

Cited the similarities in the existing system at Sipadan island and the previous system at Lankayan island, we are confident that our Infinity BioSolv system is the solution to solve the effluent quality issue for th Sabah Park. Attached is also the effluent test report done by Chemsains Konsultant Sdn Bhd 15 April 2011 after the system has been in operation for more than 4 months. The result from the test report has shown that the effluent quality is well below the BOD and SS limit set for Malaysian Effluent Standard A which is BOD: 20mg/L and SS: 50mg/L
