Congratulations to Nancy Vang for winning 2nd place in the North Carolina Career Development State-Wide Art Contest! Congratulations to Dillon Casse for coming in 8th place out of 229 students in the Student Math League! Firebirds RISE: Congratulations to the Prom Committee for a wonderful, impressive 2012 Prom! Great job!

Calendar dates to note: 1. April 19: Graduation Project Presentations; PAA Family schedule that day. If students/parents want to watch the presentation, they can do so with permission from the student. Observers cannot stay during judge deliberation. GOOD LUCK SENIORS! 2. April 20: SGA officer elections and verify student demographic information in PAA Family 3. April 24: CHS Night at the Hickory Crawdads. Activity buses leave for game at 5:15 p.m. The game starts at 6 p.m. Student and family tickets are on sale in the office. Parent pick-up at the stadium activity bus isnt bringing students back to school. 4. April 26: CHS Performing Arts Department Concert (Music Concert and Dance Troupes.) St. Lukes Methodist Church, Viewmont, 7 p.m. 5. April 27: CHS Firebird Theatre BUY-OUT. Students can pay to see the play for $2 and not attend class during the time of the play. Tickets will be on sale in the office. Math, Reading, and Writing COMPASS testing starts this week. Please see Mr. McPhail if you havent signed-up and/or if you think that you need to retest. GOOD LUCK STUDENTS! YEARBOOK: Pre-order your 2011-2012 Yearbook with Mrs. Hudson in the office. Yearbooks are $50.00. Checks are made to CHS. All students can submit potential Yearbook pictures to Mrs. Robbins at Deanne_Robbins@catawbaschools.net The Yearbook Staff is looking for pictures from the Early Bird Days and other school events. Congratulations to Mrs. Barolows science classes for winning a forensics lesson from UNC Chapel Hill Forensic Scientists!

PAA FAMILY: All PAA Families meet during PAA Family Time on Friday.

SENIORS: Each senior that is graduating (whether you plan to participate in Graduation or not) will need to meet individually with Mrs. Osborne in April. May 17: Senior Sendoff!! Regular school day, Mandatory attendance for Freshman S2, sign-in and sign-out rules apply. Day includes: Academic Awards Assembly, PAA Family End of School Parties, PAA Family activities and competitions. 9. FROM YOUR PSO: Volunteers needed: Every Monday, CHS needs volunteers from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. to monitor the Firebird Office and Nest. Volunteers are needed to work concessions at select Hickory Crawdads games in March and April. Please email bollies@embarqmail.com to sign-up. We are participating in the Valley Hills Mall My School's Cool program!! We could be awarded up to $5,000!! Shop on Wednesday and we get TRIPLE points for ALL retail purchases! EAT on TUESDAY OR THURSDAY and we will get TRIPLE points for every food court purchased! We only get points if receipts are turned in to the CHS locker or Nest.

FROM YOUR SGA STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS: The available positions are: SGA President, SGA Vice-President and SGA Secretary / Treasurer At each grade level: Class President, Class Vice-President, Class Secretary / Treasurer, and Class Representative Campaign Week: April 16th 19th: All candidates will be permitted to run approved campaigns Elections: Friday, April 20th during PAA and Monday, April 23rd during Connections everyone will have a chance to vote for your favorite candidate!

ZOO FIELD TRIP (School-wide event): The Sophomore class would like to invite all Challenger students to join them on a field trip to the NC Zoo at Asheboro and a tour of UNC-Greensbor. Date: Saturday, April 28th Time: 8:00 am 5:00 pm (from CVCC) Cost: $13.00 Lunch: Pack a lunch or eat at the Zoo See Ms. Plover for more details and your field trip permission slip Permission slips and full payment are due by 4:00 on Friday, April 20th to Ms. Plover.
