Ohio Pharmacists Association 2011 Salary Survey

The Ohio Pharmacists Association conducts a biennial survey of Ohio pharmacists to determine average salaries and to track trends. This years results indicate that practicing pharmacy is still a profitable as well as rewarding career.

Staff/employee pharmacists saw a modest increase in hourly wage from $52.57 in 2009 to $53.91 in 2011.

Pharmacy Technicians and Interns. Pharmacists were asked to report the hourly wage for pharmacy technicians and interns, if known. The average hourly wage for technicians was $10.30 in 2011. The maximum hourly wage reported was $18.00 and the minimum was $7.50. Pharmacy interns averaged $15.82 per hour overall, with the average pay increasing for each additional year of education. First-year pharmacy interns averaged $11.75, whereas graduate interns averaged $26.11 per hour.

and more than 90 percent of those utilized the paid vacation time. Sixty-six percent were offered sick leave, but only 50 percent of those with the benefit used it. Fifty-one percent of respondents were males and 94 percent were white/Caucasian (Table 5 on page 16). Thirty-nine percent of the pharmacists surveyed reported the PharmD as their initial degree. Individuals with a PharmD averaged less hourly pay ($51.61) than those with a B.S. Pharm. ($55.89). Thirty-four percent of individuals were 20- to 30-years-old, making this the largest age group for the population responding to this survey. The second largest group fell in the 51- to 60-years-old range. Those in the younger 15

Benefits. Pharmacists were also asked to indicate which fringe benefits were offered to them by their employer. Over 80 percent of employees were offered health insurance for themselves, their spouse, and their dependents. Thirty-one percent of respondents employers offered to pay professional association dues, such as those for membership in the Ohio Pharmacists Association. Eighty-six percent of employees were offered paid vacation,

group, aged 20 to 30 years, averaged $51.56 per hour, whereas those in the older group, aged 51 to 60 years, averaged $56.62 per hour.
