Introduction
POWERLOOM TEXTILES: The Indian textiles, renowned for their fineness and captivating colours for ages beyond 5000 years, have attracted connoisseurs, from all parts of the world. The textiles of India bear the imprint of the fine craftsmanship of the Indian weaver. The skill of weaving with deft fingers, drawing patterns and creating designs, is an art which has been handed down through generations from father to son, from time immemorial. These finest gossamer fabrics woven from yarns of superior finish are now being manufactured more and more on powerlooms.

The emergence of powerloom has transformed an art into a modern industry, producing around 19,000 million meters of fabrics annually and employing over 7 million of workers. The combination of traditional art and contemporary modern designs, has given a unique character to the Indian powerloom textiles.

The modernisation process undertaken by the powerloom industry has widened the scope of products such as grey, printed and dyed fabrics and cotton made-ups in a variety of sophisticated finishes and in a wide range of widths and sizes. Besides, the industry is now in a position to offer fabrics not only of cottons but also of rich blends of cotton, synthetics and other fibers. The process of economic liberalisation, has enabled the industry to become globally competitive, not only in terms of price , but also of quality.

It is therefore no surprise that powerloom textiles worth more than Rs. 44,000 million have been exported to all the four corners of the world, covering not only the developed but also developing countries. U.S.A., France, Germany, Bangladesh, Hongkong, Italy, etc., have been our major markets, indicating the directional pattern of exports. The discerning buyers of these countries prefer Indian textiles, as these meet their requirements, wether it be in texture, finish, weave, variety, quality, price, width & size, count & construction, weight, specifications.

The range of products offered are many splendoured, right from greys to finished fabrics and to made-ups.

Waffles weave fabric

Waffle weave fabric is a woven fabric with a recessed square pattern. The raised edges around the recessed squares give the pattern the look of the breakfast food called waffles. Waffle weave fabric is available in different gauges from very fine to medium to coarse. Fine gauge waffle weave material contains tiny squares and the fabric is usually lightweight. This type of waffle weave often makes fast-drying dishcloths or dishtowels and also works well for a summer weight bathrobe. Medium gauge waffle weave fabric is commonly used in all types of towels. Coarse or large gauge waffle weave material makes very luxurious plush towels or bathrobes.

Quality control: QC/Technical Support Quality control is one of the most important aspects to be maintained in a manufacturing business. QC inspection is done partially in-house and in partnership with other subcontractors. Proficient, skillful and responsible technicians and production staff are given training to perform quality control analysis. They are trained by other agencies. QC Staff: 10 to 199 Procedures/testing Details Customers can provide their sample design or product. After receiving the layout, our staff will analyze the fabric composition, type, feel and, color. Thereafter, we will produce a counter sample, which exactly meets all specifications stipulated. When confirmation is made and before production begins, all raw materials are inspected. In each production stage, fabrics are checked at random for holes, stains, dimensions, color deviation, fastness and others, thus minimizing defect and error possibility. An independent QC contractor also conducts inspection. Other Information The grade of the product is vital and crucial, therefore strict methods are implemented in each process. Random checking is also performed to assure excellence. Finally, pre-packing inspection is done to guarantee defect-free products.

Twill weaves fabric

Twill weave is characterized by the effect of parallel diagonal ribs formed left-to-right or rightto-left. It is created by the interlacing of 2 or 3 warp threads over 1 or 2 filling thread in alternate rows. The resulting fabric is more pliable and drape able than the plain or basket weave but less pliable than satin. Twill weave which has more warps than the wefts floating on the face of the fabric is called warp faced and those with wefts predominating is known as weft faced. Characteristics of Twill Weave It has fewer interlacing than plain weave. It is durable and heavier. It is wrinkle resistant. It is resistant to showing soil and soiling. The twill direction is defined as left or right hand or variation. It is more raveling than plain weave. It is more pliable drape and hand than plain weave.

Dobby weave fabric

A dobby weave fabric is decorative weave, characterized by small figures, usually geometric, that are woven into the fabric structure. Dobbies may be of any weight or compactness, with yarns ranging from very fine to coarse and fluffy. Standard dobby fabrics are usually flat and relatively fine or sheer. However, some heavyweight dobby fabrics are available for home furnishings and for heavy apparel.

A figure weave produced by an attachment on the loom that weaves an extra set of yarns into a simpler background weave. Dobby fabrics usually have small birdseye, dot or other geometric patterns.

Fabrics with dobby weave:

Brocade Moss Crepe Matelasse

Uses of dobby weave:

A good example of dobby weave is stripes or waffle cloth but the designs need to be straight vertically or horizontally. Heavyweight dobby fabrics are used as home furnishings and for heavy apparel.

Seer sucker fabric

Seersucker is a cotton fabric with a name deriving from the Persian term SHIR O SHAKAR which means milk and sugar. The fabric was initially made in Iraq, yet it was popularized in America, especially for mens clothing. Seersucker is made by what is called a slack-tension weave, where groups of yarn are bunched together in certain portions of the fabric created a puckered, almost wrinkled look to the fabric. In fact, its usually unnecessary to iron seersucker garments because they are supposed to look slightly wrinkly. The puckering effect of the weave creates a wonderful feature in seersucker garments. They tend to be much cooler to wear because airspace is created between the body and parts of the clothing.

Characteristics of seer sucker fabric: Seersucker has a crinkled surface. Usually striped pattern, often colored. The fabric comes in medium to heavy weights. Seersucker is woven with wrinkles in it.

Plain weave
Plain weave is a basic style of weaves, which have the weft and warp threads interwined in an alternate way to produce a checkerboard effect. It is also known as one-up-one-down weave or over and under pattern. Plain weave is the simplest and most common interlacing of warp and weft. In this, the warp and weft are of equal tension and spacing and it is equally visible on the surface. Characteristics of plain weave: 1. It is snag resistant. 2. It wrinkles. 3. It has lower tear strength.

Fabrics with plain weave: Chiffon Cendal Habutai Honan Mousseline de Soie Ninnon Organza Pongee Rajah (trade name) - warp yarn is 4 thread organized - filling is heavier. Shantung Sharkskin Sheer - Mostly plain but could be various weaves. Spun Rayon Taffeta Tissue Taffeta Warp-print Taffeta Tussah - Usually plain but also in twill.

Jacquard fabric
The Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801, which used the holes punched in pasteboard punch cards to control theweaving of patterns in fabric. The loom enabled even amateur weavers to weave complex designs. Each punch card corresponded to one row of the design and the cards were strung together in order. It was based on an earlier invention by the French mechanic Falcon in 1728. Each hole in the card corresponds to a "Bolus" hook, which can either be up or down. The hook raises or lowers the harness which carries and guides the warpthread so that the weft will either lay above or below it. The sequence of raised and lowered threads is what creates the pattern. Each hook can be connected via the harness to a number of threads, allowing more than one repeat of a pattern. A loom with a 400 hook head might have 4 threads connected to each hook, giving you a fabric that is 1600 warp ends wide with four repeats of the weave going across. It was the first machine to use punch cards to control a sequence of operations. Although it did no computation based on them, it is considered an important step in the history of computing hardware. The ability to change the pattern of the loom's weave by simply changing cards was an important conceptual precursor to the development of computer programming. Specifically, Charles Babbage planned to use cards to store programs in his Analytical engine. At first sight this may seem unremarkable but it was a clear turning point in the ability to store and re-use machine instructions. Whilst Babbage did not live to see that his ideas were viable, they have since been proved to work reliably. The term "Jacquard loom" is a misnomer. It is the "Jacquard head" that adapts to a great many dobby looms such as the "Dornier" brand that allow the weaving machine to then create the intricate patterns. Jacquard looms, whilst relatively common in the textile industry, are not as ubiquitous as dobby looms which are usually faster and much cheaper to operate. However unlike jacquard looms they are not capable of producing so many different weaves from one warp. Modern jacquard looms are computer controlled and can have thousands of hooks. And inevitably, unlike Jacquard's original invention there is now no need for the use of punched cards - instead the patterns are literally computer controlled. The threading of a jacquard loom is so labor intensive that many looms are threaded only once. Subsequent warps are then tied in to the existing warp with the help of a knotting robot which ties each new thread on individually. Even for a small loom with only a few thousand warp ends the process can take days.
