INTRODUCTION The SIWES program done in Spicetouch Limited opened a gate of experience for me especially in the area of networking which I had been longing for a very long period of time. Networking is an interesting field in computer science. It is also a very lucrative aspect of it, which is essential in every organization nowadays. It makes communication possible between computers used by staffs thereby providing sharing of stuffs and folders between staffs. And this make the work more easier and faster. It also work in the term of emailing and games, email has been helping in so many ways in the industries in Nigeria: mail sending has made information easier, people can now order for goods even outside the country and make negotiation right on line and eventually get the goods ordered for. OBJECTIVE OF REPORT The SIWES report is mainly to express and discuss

challenges faced and experience gained by student during the

SIWES program. And to tell if the actual purpose of the program was been achieved. It also helps the supervisor to get to know much or to get familiar with the company and its services. It also express the relationship between the student and the company, thereby expressing the image of the school to the company and its society at large. NATURE OF BUSINESS/LITERATURE REVIEW OF INDUSTRY Spicetouch Limited render services like tutor in specialized fields like Project Management Professional, CCNA, and others for professional examination students, also give training for students of computer engineering, Database (oracle) and so on. They also render services to organizations base on

Information Technology. They also help set up computer rooms and help in it maintenance. Spicetouch Limited also helps in setting up LAN and WAN Networks, its maintenance and other necessary service provision. HISTORY OF THE COMPANY
5

Spicetouch Limited is founded in the year 2007 by Mr. Okunola Precious O. who has earlier been I.T manager of Honeywell Coperate Office before the establishment of Spicetouch Limited. Spicetouch started with training before other services joined in the year 2009, and since then the company has been trying to give its best to its society. COMPANYS MISSION/VISION STATEMENT Spicetouch Limited is determined to give effective services and maximum cooperation with its staffs WRITE UP ON THE INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA AND

MARKET/SERVICE SITUATION Industry in Nigeria lack finances for some important facilities which are suppose to be used, for instance where we are suppose to use Switch we have to use the Router, and some organization where we have to break their network (subnet) into smaller networks for effective result are not so due to expenses. The market is okay to small extent at least we had more client when during the SIWES program.

ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT OF SPICETOUCH LIMITED Since the company is located in an environment that is civilized and where it is nearer to the consumers. The

environment is very good for the business because there are more client and people coming for training always. Therefore the environment have a positive impact on the business. DUTIES/EXPERIENCES My experiences at Spicetouch Limited is a great one, because I saw some devices which I had never seen in my life and I had opportunity to work with them and even learn about how they work. I also had the experience of working with older colleague and interact with them, I also had moral experience of an office, and how to deal with clients. I was also advised to choose the specialization which I love most now and focus on it for future purpose. So I decided to choose networking. I learnt the
7

topologies of networking which are bus, star and linear, the advantages and disadvantages of each one of them. Also the hybrid of the topologies which is the best one in use. I can now form IP addresses on my own because I know what constitute it and it classes which are class A, class B, and class C. I also learnt about their characteristics and features which helps me to identify each of them. I also got to know the two types of IP addresses which are the private and the public IP addresses. The private IP address cannot be used in an organization, it can only be used in homes but after some manipulations, it can be use for organizations. The public IP address is for organization or firms. To form IP addresses, we have to use the combination of subnet mask and a typical default gateway address. I also gain subnetting, how to break Networks into smaller and effective Networks with different methods. I also learnt about Router and Switches, function of each and when to use them. How they works is not a mystery to me any longer.

I also learnt how transportation of datas (communication) is been made between networks through the two route available in TCP and the UDP mode of communication whereby TCP is reliable route (sends acknowledgement) and UDP is the unreliable route. And they both have when they are to be used. I also work with the ETHERNET, whereby I learnt the rules governing the internet which is the CSMA/CD with the exception of Token and Ring which uses CSMA/CD. I also learnt about the modes of communication which are UNICAST, BROASCAST, and MULTICAST. The UNICAST is sent directly to the receiver or the destination since the switch would have known the IP address of the receiver, in BROADCAST, the router will send the data to all and the receiver will get it and others will drop it but this can cause mismatch (overcrowding). The multicast sends its ARP out and every body receives it even those that are not within the subnet of the network also receives it. I learnt about cabling also, the standard of cabling we have are T568A + T568A which is a straight through cable, the T568B
9

+ T568B also a straight through cable and the T568A + T568B which is the crossover cable. The crossover cable are use in the connection of like devices e.g connection of PC to PC or switch to switch. While the straight through cable are use to connect unlike devices together. If this rules are not followed there will be no signal in the connection. The standard length for connection is 100 meters and connection longer than that can be done by putting another device in between the connection before getting another cable. I also learnt about wireless security: how to prevent other people from the outside from using the wireless network and even people within who are not satisfied to use it. Then I learnt the configuration of a switch in the lab and some coding which are involved. I was taught about subnetting, the styles of subnetting. Eventually I was able to subnet without assistance when I was assigned to do that for clients. I was also taught about the WAN connection and the styles available which are leased lines, circuit switched and packet switched. I learnt how to configure a Router and its mode of
10

security. I also learnt about the NAT and PAT and their configuration. I was taught the installation of window sever 2008 and the Active Directory, domain controller creation, organization Unit (OUs) creation, its security and how to share files between them. Towards the end of the program, I learnt about the LANs and Trunking which helps to get an improved result in the LAN network and some other configuration. During the cause of my SIWES program, I had to opportunities of teaching some students who came for training and I was able to go out with my boss and get some real life experiences of what I had been taught theoretically. CHALLENGES FACED AT WORK Some of the challenges faced are due to the fact that no practical knowledge had been acquired from school, therefore making some of the things seen a mystery to me. Sometimes, when I wanted to work with some devices on my own, I would be withdrawn from them. The fact that the duration of the program is too short does not allow me to cover all I wanted to cover and
11

does not give me chance to practice more. Another challenge is the issue of transportation to my place of work, I was not paid for so sometimes I run out of cash. But I am satisfied and happy because I was able to make positive contribution to the organization, some of the ideas I gave helped in critical situations. The space I filled was vacant initially. And I am very happy I was able to help, because my boss always love me to always be around. Since the world is growing into a small global computer world, am very very sure that the future of business will be great since all firm and companies, no matter what they are producing or services render are making use of the information technology. RELEVANCE OF IT EXPERIENCE TO MY COURSE OF STUDY. The relevance of the SIWES program to my course of study is that what I learnt is a specialization in my area of study and I have decided to go for a professional examinations in the aspect which I learnt during the SIWES program. So that I will be able to take a job in the field.

RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION This SIWES program is very good for us student because it grants us the opportunity of applying the knowledge of what we are been taught in school to the real world.

14

It also help us to gain skills and experiences that will be very useful for us in the future. Also gives students the privileged of working with devices and gadget they learnt about in school. The SIWES program also gives the opportunity of working and dealing with people in the society and it helps us to get familiar with the labour market. With my experience in Spicetouch Limited, I can handle a firms network in the terms of building, maintenance and troubleshooting.
