[MAT204] Probability and Statistics PROJECT

A. OVERVIEW
Student will work in group for the project. Each group will have discussion to decide on a topic of research. Your topic of research will have to involve Hypothesis Testing an important area of statistics that you will learn in the subject. You have to use your creativity in choosing a realistic (i.e. it can be completed within the time limit that you are given), and meaningful (i.e. your research can have some benefit or implication in real life) topic of research. You can choose the topic related to students in HANU, with the population is all or a portion of students. After you have done research, you are required to write a report describing your findings. In the report, you have to use Descriptive Statistics to describe data that you have collected before presenting the core results of your research. You also have to be able to draw conclusions out of your findings. Each group will deliver a group presentation, where all members are encouraged to speak.

B. TASKS
The tasks you are expected to carry out for the project are outlined below: Form groups for doing project. Depend on the number of students in class, the number of group should be 3-4/class. Discuss a plan on how to work on the project (if you find it necessary, you may appoint a group leader). Group communication strategy, meeting schedule, member roles should also be discussed. Decide on the topic of research and the hypothesis you need to test. Identify the population you will study. Choose the level of significant (and justify your choice). Choose the sample size (and justify your choice). Choose the type of hypothesis test that you will use, and state the assumptions of the test if there are any. Choose the sampling method (you should choose among sampling methods introduced in lectures). Select a sample Decide on a method to collect data (e.g. via questionnaires) and carry it out.

Organize the collected data. Calculate essential numerical data measures (i.e. mean, median, standard deviation) as appropriate. Carry out the hypothesis testing procedures and record the findings. Answer the questions: what are the implications of your findings?, what are the limitations of your research? Write report. Give presentation.

C. DUE DATES
For the report, it is due by 12.00pm on Sunday of week 13 (22/4). I will open submission box in the FIT portal at that week. The presentation will be launched in the coming weeks. You should submit your group presentation file before the presentation time. Prepare presentation slides for a 15-20 minutes group presentation.

D. PROJECT ASSESSMENT
The project will be assessed based on: Meaningful Topic Sampling Descriptive statistics Project evaluation & Conclusions Presentation skill. Q/A

Normally, each individual in the group will receive equal mark for the project. However, based on the activeness of each member and the presentation skill as well as Q/A during presentation time, some might have higher mark and some might have lower one. Therefore, teamwork and cooperation are key factors for your success.
