The controlled temperature agitation of platelets has been shown to maximize useful life. LABCOLD platelet incubation systems are designed to provide optimum conditions for platelet storage in the blood transfusion laboratory. Incubators are available for use with Labcold agitators or those of other quality manufacturers. PLATELET INCUBATORS A range of bench and floor standing incubators designed for use with both Labcold and most other commonly used platelet agitators. The Advanced models

feature comprehensive temperature monitoring and alarm functions as well as automatic internal power supplies for agitators. There is also a standard version of the bench model with more limited features and a lower cost. Construction Easily cleaned white exterior with insulated glass door. Floor standing models are fitted with lockable castors and bench models have adjustable feet. All cabinets provide chamber cooling to allow use in ambient temperatures of up to 32C.

As fitted to all blood banks provides a constant check of all important performance parameters. Clear text displays such as DOOR OPEN or TEMPERATURE HIGH giving unambiguous warnings of all alarm states. When all conditions are correct the display shows NORMAL OPERATION. The intelligent alarm even advises when the self recharging battery needs replacing. Alarms are accompanied by an audible warning, which can be muted, but which re-activates after a delay period. Remote alarm contacts are provided to integrate with most hospital switchboard alarms or other remote alarm devices.

ADVANCED MODELS Fully featured models complete with chart recorder, Labcold text monitor/alarm and internal power socket. All models accept Labcold Platelet agitator. Agitators from other quality manufacturers can be used in one of the floor standing models. Internal power supplies Internal sockets are provided within the chamber to safely connect agitators. Power to the sockets is switched off automatically while the cabinet door is open to allow quick and easy access to platelet packs. Temperature control Accurate microprocessor temperature control allows reliable operation at 22C even in the warmest laboratory. The operating temperature can be adjusted by authorised users. A clear digital display confirms operating temperature.

Temperature recording An integral 7 day circular temperature recorder provides proof of operating temperature in accordance with most accreditation requirements. STANDARD MODEL This unit will fit on, or below, laboratory benches and is designed for use with the Labcold platelet agitator. It has an access port to allow the power supply from the agitator to be connected to an adjacent socket. The digital display includes an audible and visual alarm to warn if temperatures in the chamber are too high or too low. The alarm can be muted using a key controlled switch. PLATELET AGITATOR This compact device provides a gentle reciprocating action to minimize cell clumping. The speed can be adjusted to optimise performance. Up to 16 packs can be accommodated on 8 stainless steel pull-out drawers.

Each drawer has maximum ventilation to ensure oxygen transfer to cells and the drawer frame can be removed from the agitator for easy cleaning. Drawers can be removed from the frame for autoclaving if required.

LABCOLD have supplied and maintained freezers for operation below -30C for over 30 years. These Plasma Freezers have been designed and tested to comply with BS4376: Part 2: 1996. They provide FFP storage at the ideal temperature to allow the fastest thawing time and to reduce bag cracking. A choice of convenient front opening and chest models is available.

OPERATING TEMPERATURE All Labcold plasma freezers are designed to store FFP at the warmest temperature that is in compliance with the British Standard. The temperature is accurately controlled using a microprocessor with a digital display of chamber temperature. An integral 7 day chart recorder with a load simulator maintains a record of core temperature equivalent to the smallest pack. (The operating temperature can be adjusted to comply with Guidelines for the Blood Transfusion Services in the UK 6.10.4 (4th Edition 2000) if required.)

STORAGE Ease of access to each pack is provided by both the chest and front opening models. The chest units offer optional baskets which are available to suit all sizes and formats of pack. The front opening models have easily cleaned and removable drawers which help rapid location of plasma packs. The drawers also help to stabilize temperature and minimize the need for defrosting. SECURITY All Labcold Plasma Freezers have door locks and alarms which warn if the door has been left open for too long. Independent alarms warn if the temperature becomes too warm or too cold. CONSTRUCTION The exteriors are finished in clinical white which is easy to clean and maintain a smart appearance. All models have smooth stainless steel interiors which are tough enough for even the busiest storage and issue applications. They are designed to be used with all approved decontamination methods, and all internal shelves and drawers can be easily removed for effective cleaning. Outer door All doors will stay open to allow easy access and have assisted closing with magnetic gaskets to ensure proper closure after access. Solid doors are available as standard for greater security. Insulated glass doors are optionally available on most Labcold Blood Banks. These allow rapid inventory control and location of chosen packs, minimizing the period doors are open. Inner doors All models have clear inner doors or drawer fronts to minimize temperature changes and provide the most stable storage conditions. Interior lighting Lighting is provided on all cabinets to assist rapid and accurate selection of blood packs even in poorly lit areas.

BRITISH STANDARD 4376: PART 1: 1991 This standard is one of the worlds most comprehensive definitions of the requirements for blood bank refrigerators that is available to both manufacturers and users. SECURITY Temperature control Product safety and security is designed into every aspect of Labcold Blood Banks. Larger models include complete DUAL INDEPENDENT REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS as recommended by the British Standard. Each refrigeration system provides 100% performance, sufficient to cool down and perform fully without help from the second system even in ambient temperatures up to 40C. An asymmetric automatic electronic switching system shares heavy duty operation periods evenly between the two systems. An operator override allows either system to by used whilst the other is serviced. All models have a fully automatic defrosting system to ensure that they operate continuously at peak efficiency. A battery operated 7 day chart recorder proves the temperature of stored blood. The recorder sensor is strategically located and surrounded by a load simulator to match a pack of blood.

CHOICE OF SHELVES OR DRAWERS The shelf system is adjustable to allow use of Labcold blood baskets or your existing baskets. Our stainless steel drawer system has a fully adjustable and removable divider system to allow most usual bag sizes and organisation practices.

DOOR LOCKS
All models have Lockable doors. The Labcold Keypad electronic lock is standard on all solid door models. The keypad electronic lock allows any authorised person to access the contents by entering a unique 4 digit code. The door will lock automatically every time it is closed. If the door is propped open the intelligent alarm system will still provide a warning. The Digital Electronic Lock has also been designed for the future and can be operated by magnetic swipe cards or bar controlled issue programs with the addition of a suitable interface.

CHOICE OF FORMAT

RDBT1068
This four-model range has been specifically designed with smaller use applications in mind and has proved particularly popular with Community/Private Hospitals and Theatres, Maternity and Accident & Emergency units at larger hospitals. Customers can select between shelf or drawer configurations, and there is a special low height version of each to accommodate those with limited space. In common with all of the Labcold range of Blood Banks, the compacts comply fully to BS4376: Part 1: 1991.

Standard compact models feature a top-mounted instrument panel, similar to the Labcold BS range, for convenience and ease of use. For applications where space is critical two reduced height models are available with the instrument panel re-located to a position beneath the door. Whichever of the above formats you select, you have the choice between shelves or retractable drawer internal arrangements. DOOR LOCKS All models have lockable doors. Standard models feature the Keypad Electronic Lock. The reduced height, drawer model, RDBB1068 features the same mechanism but activated by an Infra-red key fob similar to that used with car remote locking systems. The reduced height shelf model, RSBB1056, has a conventional key operated manual lock.

REFRIGERATION All Labcold blood banks use environmentally safe refrigerants and have plenty of cooling capacity to allow the most frequent use in ambient temperatures up to 40C. All models feature fully automatic defrosting systems, which ensure that they will always operate at peak efficiency.

PERFORMANCE A solid state system automatically holds the stored blood at the correct temperature with accuracy. The system will operate in ambient temperatures of up to 27C and below zero. Air is circulated within the chamber and temperature control is better than that required by BS4376: Part 1: 1991. A removable basket ensures that no part of the blood bag can ever come in contact with the cooling elements.

MONITORING A digital display of temperature provides a quick and easy check on storage temperatures. The battery operated electronic temperature logger provides a continuous record of the stored product temperature. A connection cable and computer download and analysis program are provided to keep auditable records of temperature. An independent alarm system provides a clear Pass or Fail signal to all operators to advise on the safety of the stored blood.

RPBB0005
Portable refrigerators and freezers have been available from Labcold for many years. This latest model is produced with medical application specialists in mind. Designed to provide safe, auditable transfer of blood, they are also used for home treatment or emergency storage. CONSTRUCTION The single piece case is strong and light, using insulation developed for NASA, and is easily cleaned. The lid is hinged and has a convenient tray to stand blood packs on. TEMPERATURE MONITORING
The chamber temperature is continuously monitored and the temperature shown on a clear, door mounted, digital display. The display also shows the maximum and minimum temperature to which the contents have been exposed. Independent audible and visual alarms are provide if the temperature becomes too hot or too cold. This Labcold range of cabinets has been designed to suit all controlled temperature storage needs of the pharmacy. Our models offer accurate storage temperatures with microprocessor control and assisted air circulation within the chamber. The wide temperature setting range will allow adjustment to suit any future requirements. The cabinets are attractively finished in clinical white with robust construction for use in the busiest pharmacy. The interiors are constructed of stainless steel or white ABS for easy cleaning. They are designed to allow the use of most commonly used drug inventory systems. All models have fully automatic defrosting systems with microprocessor control to allow uninterrupted operation. Storage temperatures are shown on a digital display and are continuously monitored to warn if temperatures are too high or too low.
