Anticipation, banners, and bunting are on the rise in Ferndale as the Thursday night kickoff for the city's fiftieth annniversary celebration approaches. Ferndale's Golden Jubilee will get off to a start Thurs day at 8 p.m. when 29 lovely girls vie for the title in the 'Miss Ferndale contest. The public is invited to Ferndale High School for the event, w hie h is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Miss Ferndale and her court will reign over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's Golden Jubilee events, with over 40 activities scheduled for the city-wide celebration.

Friday is highlighted by the Ferndale High School football game with Southfield High. The Ferndale Eagles have won four straight games, and are ranked fourth in the state. Famous past athletes will be introduced to the crowd as part of the activities. Also on tap Friday are the first of a number of com petitions, including the baby contest, a children's contest, and a bake contest and sale.

A long list of events will begin at noon and last' far into the evening as part of the Mall entertainment on Nine Mile. Special commemorative church services, followed by luncheons and reunions will begin the' final day activities on Sunday. The St. James High Scliool football team will take on St. Mary's of Orchard Lake in its homecoming game at Ferndale High in the afternoon.
Citizens GroupAn Alumni Reunion for all Ferndale high schools will begin at 4 p.m. on the Commons at Ferndale High School. This will precede the Honors and Awards Banquet spon

sored by the Golden Jubilee Committee, which begins at the school at 7 p.m. The Golden Jubilee Committee, a citizens group which is doing the organizational work for the Jubilee, formed itself this summer after asking the city commission for the job. Ferndale's first village commission meeting was held April 22, 1918. The city of Ferndale held an open house on Sunday, March 31, this year to commemorate the event. The city had considered hiring a professional firm to organize the jubilee, but the citizens of Ferndale took over the task. General chairman for the organization is rV1rs. June Kotlarek.
