The Sacred Science of Yoga
'Yoga is the ultimate physics, because it is the mechanics of life. It is not a scripture. It is not a
philosophy. It is a methodology to explore the nature of creation.` Sadhguru

The ancient yogic discipline is far more than a fitness method for physical health or even a psychological
tool to achieve peace and happiness. Wellness of body and mind, often touted as the primary benefits of
modern yoga practice, is merely a by-product of becoming a fully balanced and vibrantly alive being.
The Sanskrit word 'yoga comes Irom the word 'yuj which means, 'to unite. Hence, yoga is the union
of the individual with the whole of existence, also commonly referred to as 'selI-realization, 'nirvana,
'mukti, or 'enlightenment. Yoga also reIers to the inner technology that will lead one to this experience
a technology formulated from rigorous inner observation by ancient yogis, over thousands of years.
With their extraordinary perception and mastery over every aspect of the human mechanism, these great
yogis delved into their own systems, uncovering the nature of the cosmos a macrocosm of the human
system.
Initially, yoga was imparted by the Adiyogi (the first yogi), Shiva, over 15,000 years ago. It was Adiyogi
who introduced to humanity the idea that one can evolve beyond their present levels of existence. He
poured his knowing into the legendary Sapta Rishis, or 'seven sages, who took the tremendous
possibility offered by the yogic science to various parts of the world, including Asia, ancient Persia,
northern Africa, and South America. It is this fundamental yet sophisticated science of elevating human
consciousness that is the source oI the world`s spiritual traditions, predating religion by many thousands
of years.
For generations, countless masters, holding it above their own lives, have carried on this sacred thread of
knowledge without a single distortion. Classical yoga comprises of various methods evolved by these
yogis to elevate and reIine one`s energies, to raise one`s perception to its peak. Today however, the
refined tools of classical yoga have been largely lost or grossly deformed due to layers of socio-cultural
misunderstanding that have accumulated over many millennia.
The classical yogic system in its full vibrancy and sanctity remains only in a very few places in this day
and age. Moreover, access to this system is traditionally reserved for the hardiest seeker and monks who
devote their entire lives to spiritual sadhana and austerity.
It is Sadhguru`s vision to revive this ancient science in all its purity and make it available to every
individual. As a step towards realizing this vision, he has devised the Hata Yoga Teacher Training
program. Here, Hata Yoga (a vital aspect of yoga) will be taught not just for theoretical understanding,
but as a living experience of the essence of yoga. Touched by this experience, trainees will have the
privilege and fulfillment of bringing this knowledge to many more.

Velliangiri Mountains, the Kailash of the South
Isha Yoga Center, India, is situated about 18 miles from the city of Coimbatore, at the foothills of the
sacred Velliangiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu, Southern India. According to yogic lore, Adiyogi himself,
is said to have spent time upon these mountains, gracing this region with his presence many thousands of
years ago. Adiyogi left behind a powerful energy that is palpably cascading from these mountains even
today, earning this region the popular historic reference 'The Kailash of the South.
Oral history passed down for hundreds of generations in South India details the lives of thousands of
legendary yogis and exuberant mystics who were drawn to the vibrant energies of these mountains.
Working towards the ultimate goal of self-realization, they transcended the limitations of body and mind,
and created tools for liberating other human beings. Their mystical knowledge lives on these sacred
mountain peaks.
Isha Yoga Center
Established by Sadhguru as a sacred space of self-transformation, the Isha Yoga Center provides an
atmosphere conducive for any spiritual seeker. The Center houses many elements that make it a place of
tremendous energy and dynamism.
Dhyanalinga
The Dhyanalinga, consecrated by Sadhguru after three years of an intense process of prana pratishtha,
measures 13 feet 9 inches and is the largest mercury-based live linga in the world. The dream of many
enlightened beings, and the first to be consecrated in many thousands of years, Dhyanalinga, in the
metaphysical sense, is like a living Guru an energy center of tremendous proportions. Just sitting
silently for a few minutes within the sphere of Dhyanalinga, is enough to make even those unaware of
meditation experience a state of deep meditativeness.

Embodying the distilled essence of yogic science, Dhyanalinga is the highest manifestation of the divine.
All of the seven fundamental chakras have been enshrined and energized to the peak and locked at that
point. A doorway to enlightenment and liberation, the sphere and energy of Dhyanalinga creates a
possibility for every human being who comes in contact with it, to experience life in its totality.

Linga Bhairavi
Linga Bhairavi is a highly expressive and exuberant feminine form of the Divine. Located to the
southwest of the Dhyanalinga Temple, the Devi, or goddess, is an earthy, humane, and mother-like
presence, an absolute woman of ultimate proportions - whimsical and compassionate. Devi, unique in her
manifestation in the shape of a linga, represents the nurturing and creative aspects of the universe.

Consecrated by Sadhguru as a powerful energy form, Linga Bhairavi strengthens the three basic chakras
in the human system, thus stabilizing one`s body, mind and energy system. Whether one seeks to acquire,
enjoy, or transcend the physical and material aspects of life Devi assists in whatever one`s
aspirations may be. Be it power, strength, and wealth or knowledge, knowing, and transcendence Devi
is the Ultimate Giver of all that and more.

Theerthakund
At the northern end of the Dhyanalinga Yogic Temple Complex, the Theerthakund, with its powerfully
consecrated rasalinga, is a preparatory tool that activates dormant life forces, enabling an individual to
better receive the Grace of the Dhyanalinga. A dip in its vibrant waters greatly enhances spiritual
receptivity while having an uplifting effect on one's physical and mental wellbeing.
Embedded 30 feet below the ground, and approached by a descent of thirty-two massive steps, the
Theerthakund is framed by gigantic granite stones and vaulted by a colorful mural depicting the
Mahakumbha Mela. Measuring 55 by 15 feet, this exquisite artwork follows the traditional Kerala style
of painting using natural colors and vegetable dyes.

Adiyogi Alayam An Abode of Yoga
Adiyogi Alayam a tribute to the Adiyogi is a sacred space consecrated by Sadhguru to raise human
consciousness. Unique in structure and design, the Alayam, an 82,000 sq. ft. column-less hall, is an
invaluable offering to humanity. In Sadhguru`s words:
'The reason why we createa the Aaiyogi Alayam is to bring back classical yoga in its purest form. Not
studio yoga or book yoga or the other kinds of things that are being done in the world today, but proper
classical yoga which is a phenomenally powerful science. But without a phenomenal sense of energy, no
yoga can be taught. If you teach yoga without creating a vessel of energy, that is not yoga. That is just a
farce. That farce is going on all over the world right now.
So the Adiyogi Alayam is essentially structured for the science of yoga, where if you simply sit here,
really tuned in to what is happening in the hall, you must be able to know all the yoga sutras. If you start
observing the nature of your body, this space will take you on faster and further than you imagined
possible by yourself. Any kind of meditative processes which involves a certain exploration will happen
phenomenally well. If you take one step and explore, the space will take you one step further. It is like, if
you earn a hunarea aollars, this will give you one hunarea aollars bonus. Gooa aeal, isnt it?`
Isha Yoga
Sadhguru`s vision is to bring the spiritual process into the liIe oI every person on the planet. In this eIIort,
he has created Isha Yoga, a subtle and powerful science, essentially rooted in the Sapta Rishi Agastya`s
work. Isha Yoga is structured to promote beneIicial changes in one`s inner chemistry to accelerate the
release of physical, mental and emotional blocks and produce a life transforming impact of profound
experience, clarity and boundless energy. A proven tool for preventive health, Isha Yoga has helped
thousands find relief from chronic ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and migraines, as well
as from emotional disturbances including depression, anger and anxiety. In addition, practitioners
experience enhanced memory, concentration and decision-making abilities.
Primarily by grassroot initiatives and word-of-mouth efforts, Isha Yoga programs have gradually spread
around the world over the last three decades, broadening the reach of classical yoga. Sharing Sadhguru`s

vision and dedication, hundreds of Isha Yoga teachers, have been trained under his direct guidance to
teach various processes including Hata Yoga, Kriya yoga, meditation and Samyama practices. The
universal principles and practices conveyed in Isha Yoga programs have touched and transformed the
lives of over 7 million people from all walks of life from simple tribals to top-level executive

Isha Hata Yoga Align with the Divine
"Hata Yoga is the phenomenon of aligning the human system with the cosmic a way to hold one's
system in a way that it will become a receptacle to receive and hold the entire cosmos." Sadhguru
The Isha Hata Yoga Teacher Training program offers classical Hata Yoga in its full depth and dimension.
Specially designed by Sadhguru, the training program offers more than just posture and alignment,
physiological principles, breath and movement, or even awareness of subtle energy flow. Although each
of these aspects is thoroughly covered in the training, the true essence of Isha Hata Yoga is the
fundamental experiential dimension of yoga, which is offered through exploratory processes.
In order to effectively impart the subtler aspects of yoga, Hata Yoga Teacher Training first focuses on
establishing awareness and understanding in the aspiring teacher, by providing potent spiritual sadhana.
A teacher who is well-established within, will have a clearer understanding of the yogic science, ensuring
an undiluted and unaltered transmission of the practice. Alterations and distortions greatly hinder both
the safety of Hata Yoga practice and its effectiveness for spiritual blossoming the only essential
outcome of a Hata Yoga process.
The depth and dimension of the processes explored during Isha Hata Yoga Teacher Training makes it
suitable both for veteran and novice yoga practitioners. The multi-faceted nature of the program ensures
that there is much to be uncovered, irrespective oI one`s past experience.
