The Existing Situation


The University was founded in 1975, and is consisted of 13 faculties, with 52 different study groups. There are 14.725 students currently studying at the University and 189 professors and 262 associates do the teaching. Apart from this number 537 visiting professors participate in teaching. The number of students that obtained their degree is as follows: 10.775 graduates, 287 specialists, 198 masters and 102 doctors.

The Existing Situation II


Our lecturers have published 3.315 scientific works, 1.200 professional works, 345 reviews and 606 books. The central organs of the University are mainly responsible for international and inter-university cooperation. Our University is a member of the European University Association (EUA). Since 1996 we have made a significant number of international contacts, most of them within the frameworks of various Tempus projects.

The Existing Situation III


The responsibilities of the University central organs are also dealing with the promotion of teachers, agreements on new study groups and adoption of new curricula and syllabi. Central organs play an important role in approvals and doctoral dissertation defenses.

Institutional Development Plan


The University of Banja Luka should continue working as the leading higher educational institution in the Republic of Srpska. We will work on the full motivation of students, and they will have to meet high criteria set in our curricula and syllabi, according to international standards. We will try to provide efficient means for carrying teaching process out, what will intensify the participation of...

...students in new teaching methods and also the use of information technologies and make lectures more effective and supportive to students. The role of the University is not limited only to teaching, research and offering services to the economy and institutions, but it plays a lead role in the development of some other fields: culture, economics, science, technology, social life.

The Mission
The University of Banja Luka is a state university with a task to strengthen higher education and cultural activities according to the needs of the citizens of the Republic of Srpska (BiH). It contributes to the development of knowledge by transferring the results of its own and international research to the students and in practice. It plays a lead role in the development of culture and economy in the state.

The University of Banja Luka is the leading institution of higher education in our country. It carries out high-quality teaching and provides effective conditions for the study of optimal number of students, top-quality applied research and service for economy and institutions. The University will focus on the international quality recognition through the accreditation and external evaluation of its activities.

Strategic Goals for 2003


To become the center of interest for students To measure the existing workload of students and start the preparation for the introduction of ECTS To repair the most endangered objects at the University (roofs, toilets, infrastructure, Internet, libraries, access to databases) To educate the existing managers and advance their work
