I have great pleasure in welcoming this Dublin City Directory and Map of essential services for migrants. Over the last number of years Ireland has become a nation which has welcomed many migrants who have in turn helped us build the prosperity that we have come to enjoy. This Directory, which will be printed in ten languages, will provide invaluable assistance to members of Irelands new communities in settling here, and whether they intend to put down permanent roots or will be with us for a shorter time, the directory will help their transition into Irish society and will therefore play an important role in their social integration. I commend the Dublin Public Libraries and the Citizens Information Service for this thoughtful and timely joint venture.

Foreword
Dublin is a modern 21st century city with a rich cultural heritage and a dynamic economic and social environment. Dublin is enlivened by a rich cultural diversity and vibrancy with a network of strong communities. Dublin welcomes newcomers, those who come to live, work, study, visit or invest in our city. It strives to include and integrate newcomers, to respect and recognise diversity while minimising dierence. A new city can be an exciting prospect. However, it can also be an intimidating and challenging experience, presenting a bewildering labyrinth of institutional, cultural and informational challenges. People need help to access their rights and entitlements, to get accommodation, employment, education and a myriad of other life critical issues. The Dublin City Centre Citizens Information service provides quality information, advice and advocacy service from its service points in OConnell Street and North King Street. In the last decade this service has helped newcomers to Dublin from all over the world. The Dublin City Public library service has a proud history of providing a comprehensive range of services to Dubliners new and old. The Central library, Ilac Centre has been pivotal to the experience of newcomers to Dublin since it opened in 1986. The North West Inner City Networks Intercultural Working Group supports the integration of ethnic minorities and addresses the issue of racism in the locality. The three organisations who have worked together in partnership have contributed to making this directory a high quality, comprehensive publication. Thanks are also due to Map-maker, Pat Liddy and Designer Fiona Burns.

HOW TO USE THIS DIRECTORY

This Directory of key services for Dublin city centre is primarily aimed at linking migrants with available and relevant services to help ease their transition and integration into Irish life and society. However, it is also an extremely useful resource for any individual or service provider who is seeking information on the large range of organisations and support services available in Dublin City Centre. We have tried to make this Guide as comprehensive as possible. However, this has been an enormous challenge due to the large numbers of organisations and services operating within the city centre. In compiling this Directory, we have also tried to respond to the needs of our service users and have included the contact details which are of most relevance to our target audience. Cross referencing has been used and all entries are listed in alphabetical order in order to make this Directory as user friendly as possible. Organisations are also grouped thematically in the subject index. A map is enclosed in the pocket at the back of each Directory. The Guide and Map are currently available in the following languages

NORTH WEST INNER CITY NETWORK (NWICN)

is an independent member based forum of community and voluntary groups in the North West Inner City of Dublin. It seeks to ensure that the community has an active say in how its locality is developed and has a particular remit in relation to social inclusion and anti poverty. NWICN has a number of active working groups around issues such as Drugs, Disability, Education and Interculturalism.
