The Balanced Scorecard is a highly effective strategic management and planning tool, popular across a wide range of industries and organisations. Using a Balanced Scorecard gives an organisation the ability to align operational activities with strategy, and measure performance in a more meaningful way than traditional financial reporting. Implementing a Balanced Scorecard system across your organisation is, however, a rigorous process, and to get the most from the Balanced Scorecard, intensive ongoing management is necessary. Introductory presentation: Making the Balanced Scorecard a part of your organisations DNA

About the workshop:

Engaging the board, executive management and staff in the value of the organisations Balanced Scorecard is vital to its success. The most important step in ensuring the buy-in is addressing the organisations culture and attitudes. Organisations are becoming increasingly aware that the leadership styles displayed by the board, executive management and staff at all levels throughout an organisation will form the culture, which in turn will impact upon the performance. Career sustainability is another reason to encourage leaders to develop and further improve their leadership effectiveness. It is critical to ensure that all of these are documented through the Balanced Scorecard. During this workshop and presentation we will: Uncover why the board, executive management and staff need to be engaged Discuss ways in which the Balanced Scorecard can be used effectively in measuring organisational culture Explore the link between leadership, culture and performance Describe how leadership has the greatest impact on performance Examine case studies of business and personal career sustainability

Really simple Balanced Scorecard

Workshop starts: 11:30 am Workshop ends 1:00 pm Facilitated by: Sandra Wood, Managing Director, Sandra Wood Consulting

About the workshop:

The Balanced Scorecard is now a universally accepted business tool. It is defined as a strategic performance management framework which organisations use to complete three key tasks: Agree on strategic priorities Agree on key activities that will help deliver strategic priorities Keep track of the execution of activities and delivery of strategic aims Much of the literature though on the Balanced Scorecard is not an easy-read, and makes the rules around implementation far more complicated than they need to be. The Balanced Scorecard is a great framework for strategic planning and a useful performance management tool, so lets keep it really simple so that more organisations can benefit from using it. While the process is simple, it does take some learning, like any new organisational system. The real benefit of the Balanced Scorecard is that it takes your performance data and highlights what is important in terms of organisational performance. The emphasis is on collecting and reporting data that leads to insights, learning, growth and improvement.

About your facilitator:

Sandra is committed to her own ongoing professional development and is a member of the Australian Institute of Management (AIM), the Australian Institute of Training and Development (AITD) and the Australian Association for Psychological Type (AusAPT).

Strategic measures less is often more

Workshop starts: 1:45 pm Workshop ends: 3:15 pm Facilitated by: Ken Huxley, Director, Intelligent Manoeuvres

About the workshop:

There is a shared understanding that the more complex a problem becomes, the less likely we are to experience success through relying on intuition. A result of this view is that many companies have a raft of measures that drown the organisation in noise, as they not only spend large amounts of resources collecting and collating the data, but sifting through the data to make sense of what is really important. One of the strengths of the Balanced Scorecard is the clear alignment between the strategy and the measures, targets and subsequent initiatives. This alignment and value is increased if the measures that are chosen are not only appropriate but also valid. At this workshop you will learn: what makes a good measure how to measure what really matters common mistakes to avoid the benefits of automation of the scorecard

About your facilitator:

Ken Huxley, Director of Intelligent Manoeuvres Consulting has over 20 years experience in education and facilitation and has held a number of management and a General Management position. He is the current treasurer of the Institute of Management Consultants (QLD) and consults and coaches into both the SME and corporate sectors. His qualifications include Master of Business Administration, Graduate Institute of Company Directors and Balanced Scorecard Professional.

About the workshop:

If you were commanding a military operation, or leading a civilian rescue operation in unfamiliar territory, you would need maps to show the geography and topography of the land ahead of you on your mission. Imagine heading off somewhere you had never been before without a folding map, or better still, an electronic map like a GPS system, to guide you on your way. Regrettably, many senior managers and organisational leaders attempt to do that every day. Worse still, they describe in various forms their own impression of what the target looks like, and the pitfalls and dangers that lurk en route, to a management team that then recounts their limited understanding from this vague description to the poor, unwitting troops who have to face the unknown on a daily basis while doing the best they can with what theyve been given. The Balanced Scorecard allows organisations to link operations with strategy, and strategy maps provide a powerful tool through which to communicate strategy clearly, giving employees a direct line of sight into how their daily working tasks are linked to the overall organisational objectives, enabling them to work in co-ordination, collaboratively, to achieve the companys goals. Strategy maps provide a visual representation of the core objectives, and the relationships between them create the essence of the organisational performance. At this workshop, youll learn to: How to build your organisational strategy map quickly How to use the strategy map to fine-tune organisational strategy and improve performance Where strategy maps work best How often you need to change the map When maps fail How to avoid defeat!
