Agribusiness Middle East Exhibition

Achieving food security ranks high on regional governmental agenda

Approximately 90% of the food requirements are met through imports due to the unsuitable climate, limited water resources and uncultivable soil conditions. The collective annual food bill for the GCC region alone hovers in the $9 - 10 billion range, of which the United Arab Emirates share is about 60 percent. Qatar National Food Security Programme is aiming to achieve self sufciency by 2023 as plans are being made to gradually increase domestic crop production whereas the UAE is looking at buying lands overseas and creating food reserves. Innovative solutions in the agriculture sector are in great demand in the region to overcome food security issues and AGRAme is the only platform to meet the leading decision makers in the region.
