wind ensemble performance, michigan music Conference: The Ferndale High School Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the prestigious 2008 Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids. This is quite an honor for FHS, only four high school bands are chosen each year from across the state!

university High School

This unique partnership with Lawrence Technological University is a public magnet high school providing students with a rigorous college prep curriculum organized around professional careers in the automotive industry of the future. In 2008, the first class of University High School celebrated their graduation with 98% setting off for college. UHS students have many unique opportunities to prepare for college success, and their accomplishments include: US Patent for their design of a vehicle iPod docking station; the Get It! (Girls Exploring Together Engineering Technology) group earned First Place at Robofest; UHS students and teachers build an electric car to present at the global Convergence Education Foundation conference.

FHS wrestling State Champion: Senior Chris Reeves is the 2008 state champion in 215lb division 2 wrestling. Alternative education Basketball: The Ferndale Alternative Education boys basketball team finished second in the state in 2008! FHS Boys Cross Country: Ferndales Boys Cross Country Team finished 25th in the State Meet as a team! Isaac Webb finished 30th qualifying him for All-State status.

State Championship marching Band

The Ferndale High School golden eagle marching Band won their fourth state championship in a row in November 2007. The Golden Eagles not only received first place, they swept all award categories!

National & State recognition

roosevelt primary 2007 Character education partnership: Roosevelt Primary received a National Schools of Character Promising Practices Award for its Brain Smart Start, created by Principal Dina Krause. 2007 michigan Association of School Boards (mASB): The MASB selected Roosevelt Primary to receive an Education Excellence Award for its Brain Smart Start.

- As much as weve changed, some things stay the same. One of the remarkable things about Ferndale High School has always been that crowd. There were the kids from Oak Park, where I grew up, and Ferndale and Royal Oak Township, and Pleasant Ridge. Four communities which together gave shape to this amazingly diverse student body, a collage of racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds unusual, maybe even unique, for a suburban school in the Detroit area at that time. Looking back, I cannot imaging a better place to come of age, at a time when people everywhere were just beginning to wrestle with the questions of social justice that came not only to define the 60s, but so much of our lives.

Ferndale eagles, A legacy of pride

The Ferndale High School has 50 years of history serving the students of Ferndale, Oak Park, The Charter Township of Royal Oak and Pleasant Ridge. Throughout that long legacy, thousands of successful graduates have made their mark in the world. The following list is just a sampling of Ferndales former students. In addition to those listed here, we are especially proud to have many of outstanding graduates among our current staff, including principals, teachers, office staff, and support staff who have chosen to return to the Ferndale Schools to serve the children of our community. This list is just a brief sampling of the thousands of successful FHS Alumni. Our apologies to all who were not included here. - Thousands of us have passed through these halls over 50 years. The place was so big. And it was unbelievably new . . . huge and shiny and lowslung and sunny and utterly now, with its walls of windows that went on forever and this sprawling lounge, the Commons, with its view over the forbidden courtyard and furnished with all of these bucket chairs you could move into circles and huddle with your friends after the first bell. Its a bit hard to reconcile the memory of the building back then -- so clean and new that it seemed raw -- with the reality that the place is now 50 years old and maybe just a bit past middle age.
