Computation:
Gas mains outside area:
Pipe size- 8 inch Pipe Length- 1400meters Pipe Surface Area- pi * d * l Sa= (22/7)*(0.219)*(1400) Sa= 963.212 sq-meter

Check the current requirement using equation

I = (A) (I) (1.0 - CE) I = (963.214) (27.5 mA/sq m) (0.05) I = 1.324 Amp

Selecting an anode of 60lb weight and 2.8 sq-foot surface area:

Calculating the number of anodes needed to meet the anode suppliers current density limitations
N = I/ (A1 * I1 ) N = 1324/ (2.8) (1000) N = 0.473 anodes = 1 anodes

Calculating the number of anodes required to meet the design life requirement
N = (L) (I) / (1000) (W) N = (20 yrs) (1324.4) / (1000) (60) N= 0.44 = 1 anodes

Calculating the number of anodes required to meet maximum anode ground bed resistance requirements:
Ra = ( K) / (L*N) + ( P) / (S)

From this equation the value of N calculated is N = 5 anodes

Area for anode bed placement is selected which is 100 feet from the pipeline.

Structure-to-electrolyte resistance:

Rc = R/N Rc = 2500/ 9620 Rc = 0.26 ohms

Total Resistance:

Rectifier Voltage:
V (rec) = (I) (RT) (150%) V (rec) = 4.3 Volts
