HOW TO GIVE A TALK ON RESUME BUILDING FOR EXECUTIVES ASSISTANTS Executive assistants resumes must appeal to potential employers

needs for a profes sional, knowledgeable and resourceful employee. When you give a talk about build ing a resume for executive assistants, your information should be tailored to th eir specific job-hunting needs. The more relevant your resume information is to their job function and roles, the better prepared your audience will be to write effective resumes that land interviews. Step 1 Learn about your audience. You may speak to a group of resume writers who want t o know how to write resumes for executive assistants. You might also talk to exe cutive assistants who are out of work and need good resumes to help them find ne w positions. Your talk s specific content and delivery will center on the type of audience you have. Step 2 Study several job descriptions for executive assistants. Make notes of common ar eas of skills and knowledge that each job description addresses. For example, ex ecutive assistants make travel and meeting arrangements and screen calls. They a lso coordinate projects and conduct Internet research. (See Reference 1.) Write a list of qualities executive assistants need in their jobs, such as the ability to prioritize, be flexible and have good interpersonal communication. Step 3 Begin your talk by addressing executive assistants particular resume needs so tha t your audience knows you have come prepared to give more than just tips on how to write a general resume. Discuss each of the skills, knowledge areas and quali ties you wrote down after studying job descriptions. Step 4 Talk about ways to enhance executive assistants resumes for each of the skills, k nowledge areas and qualities. You might say, for example, Employers want you to q uantify your experience. On your resume, for example, emphasize your experience level by writing that you provided administrative support for various levels of m anagement in a multinational company. This also demonstrates your ability to prio ritize. Step 5 Wrap up your talk by summarizing the main points you wanted to make about execut ive assistant resumes. Remind audience members to focus on relevant work experie nce in their resumes, provide detailed job descriptions of their administrative jobs in the past and use action-oriented wording. Provide time for questions, as well. Step 6 Give one or two examples of executive assistant resumes to each audience members for her reference at the end of your talk. Provide a list of words and phrases specific to executive assistants that a person could used on her resume. Your li st might include achievements like prepared monthly expense and travel reports, coo rdinated and hosted seminars for international guests and reduced travel expenses by $3,000 in first month of tenure by identifying cost-effective travel agencies and negotiating discounts.
