THE ART OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking to inform occurs in a wide range of everyday situations. Some people make informative speeches. There are the teacher in classroom the military officer briefing subordinates etc. Their speech will be judged in light of three general criteria: 1. Is the information the communication accurately? 2. Is the information the communication clearly? 3. Is the communication the communication meaningful and interesting to the audience? In this chepter well know and understand some types of informative speeches and the basic priciple of informative speaking. There are many ways to classify informative speeches : Speeches about object Speeches about processed Speeches about events Speeches about concept

a. Speeches about object Object may have morning part of the alive, they may iinclude place, structure, animals, event people ,like subways, Elisabeth Lady Stanlon, seaweed, Grand Canyon,etc. The purpose statements for informative speeches about object is to inform. There are three organization methods : 1. If your specific purpose is to explain the history or evolution of your subject, you use chronological methods. 2. If your specific purpose is to descrift the mean features of your subject, you use spatial methods. 3. As of ten as not, you will find that speeches about object fall in to topical methods.

No matter which of these organizational methods you use, be sure to follow the guidelines: 1. Limit your speech to between two and five mean points 2. Keep mean points separated 3. Try to use the same pattern of wording for all main points 4. Balance the amount of time devoted to each main point.

b. Speeches about the proccesed Speeches about the proccesed explain how something is made, how something be done, or how something works. Here are examples of good specific purpose statement for speeches about good proccessed :

To inform the audience how oriental rugs are made. 5. To inform the audience how to perform pilates exercise. As the example suggest, there two kinds of informative speeches about the processes. One kind explain a process to that listeners will understand it better. Your goal in this kind of speech is to have the audience know the step of process and how they relate to one and another. Second kind of speech explain a process so listerners will be better able to perform the process themselve. Your goal in this kind of speech to have the audience learn a particular skill you want the audience to be able to use the techniques as a result of your speech. When informing about process, you will usually arange your speech in cronologycal order. Explaining the process step by step from begining to end. If you usually arange your speech in topical order, each mind point will deal with a separate principal or technique, you must make sure each step in the process is clear and easy to follow. c. Speaking about event The Random House Dictionary defines an event as anything that happens or is regarded as happening. There are examples speeches about events is to inform about : 1. Mountain Climbing 2. Job Interviews

3. Cinco de Mayo Instead of recounting the history of an event, you might take a more analitical approach and explain its cause and/or effects. In such case you will organize your speech in casual or topical orders.
