The Romicron Fine Boring System
production is the outcome of
a huge investment in research,
state-of-the-art facilities and
special equipment. The Romicron
Division is located in a plant totally
dedicated to this purpose, housing
engineering, R&D, production,
marketing and service.
It is where the Romicron
customer finds the support of an
engineering structure with highly
specialized personnel, experienced
with micron specifications and
requirements
of customers from different

segments of market.
The Romicron production
process demands absolute
control and precision
The precision starts by developing
the projects through CAD/CAM and
continues in the production
of components, using only high
technology equipment and highly
specialized professionals,
in facilities with monitored
temperature and humidity.
All the Romicron output is

rigorously inspected, under rigid
controls and repeatability tests that
assure its reliability, and practical
tests are conducted
to confirm previous studies.
The Romicron heads are tested
on a laser interferometer with
resolution up to the fourth decimal
point of a millimeter
(4 millionths of an inch).
Romicron Fine Boring System

What is it?
Romicron Fine Boring System is a flexible, reliable,
high-precision boring system available to the world
market. It is a unique process developed for finishing
high precision bores in a fast and accurate way of
adjusting the tool tip.
It allows adjustments of 0.000040 (1,0 m) on the
tool radius without removing the tool from the
machine.
It is specifically recommended for companies that
demand statistic process control in production, with a
stable CPK of 1,2 or greater.
Boring diameter range:
0.125 to 12.834 (3,2 to 326,0 mm).
The modular models are used for diameters since
1.574 (40,0 mm), with no maximum application limit.

Through differential effect the faces are forced one against the other.
The KR coupling provides the maximum stiffness on

the taper, through face to face contact.
Also the KR coupling provides easy handling, when
assembling or disassembling to replace the Romicron
models.

Romicron Closed Loop Boring System - CLB

The Closed Loop Boring process, also called CLB, is a revolution inside the Romicron evolution.
Using this process the diameter adjustment is made automatically on the CNC machine, without the operator
ever touching the boring head.
See how it works:

1) A precision system measures the holes, after the machine process.
The data is sent to the CNC program.
2) The values are compared to the set points.
3) If the diameter is in the range of the specified set points the machine
goes to the next hole. Otherwise, the software calculates the
necessary increment and automatically adjusts the Romicron.
See the fluxogram on the right.
This process is possible only with the Romicron System, because it
does not require tools to make the adjustment.

Before starting the assembly procedure,ensure that all surfaces
to be assembled together are free of dirt and are completely
clean.
a) Remove the Differential Connector (5) from the Taper

Shank (2).

b) Lubricate the thread on the Differential Connector

(5) with Lubricant ASL-3G (7), supplied with the
Taper Shank.
c) Screw the Differential Connector (5) into the rear

thread on the Boring Head (1) until the end of the
thread. At this time it is not necessary to tighten
the Differential Connector (5).
Remember that the Differential Connector (5) has
two different screws, so there is no way to
assemble the wrong side.

d) Screw the front end of the taper shank (2) onto the
Differential Connector (5), now located at the back
on the Boring Head (1). Screw carefully until the
Positioning Pin (6) gently touches the Taper (2) face.
Stop!
f) Insert the square end of the Extension (3) through

the Taper Shank (2) and into the Differential
Connector (5). Keeping the Positioning Pin (6) and
the positioning slot aligned, turn the Extension
counterclockwise until you see that two Romicron
faces are meshing. Ensure that the Positioning Pin
(6) is inserted into the slot on the Taper Shank (2).
e) Unscrew the Taper Shank (2) a little bit until the

Positioning Pin (6) is aligned with the positioning
slot mark in the Taper Shank (2) face.
g) Tighten the Differential Connector (5) with the

specified required torque, as shown on the table.
Use the Torque Wrench (4) to do this.

How to balance the Romicron

To adjust the Romicron balancing rings at the right position is an easy
operation. The procedure is described below for the two product families
with balancing rings: the SVUBB family and the SVU family.
SVUBB family
The models of this family have two balancing rings, with positions
depending on the machined diameter. To select the right position,
consult the balancing table that accompanies the product.
The rings 1 and 2 are showed on the picture below.
To make the adjustment follow the steps:
1) Select the diameter to be bored
2) Adjust the rings according to the table
