In the mechanism shown in figure1, the crosshead E is constrained to move along the horizontal path. Find for the value of = 450 , the velocity and the acceleration of the point D on the link BDE and also the angular acceleration of the link BDE.

The distance between the pivots of the front stub axles is 1.47 m, the length of the track rod is 1.61 m. The track rod is fixed in front of the stub axle. The wheel base is 3.3m. Find the angles of inclination of the stub axles if the car is taking a turn of 6m radius for correct steering position. Assume that the instantaneous center of rotation, during the turning, lies on the extension of the rear axle. (12M)

(8M) b) In an open belt drive, the diameters of the larger and the smaller pulleys are 1.2 m and 0.8m respectively. The smaller pulley rotates at 300 rpm. The center distance between the shafts is 4m. When stationary, the initial tension in the belt is 2.5 KN. The mass of the belt is 1.5 kg/m and the coefficient of friction between the belt and the pulley is 0.25. Determine the power transmitted. If the wheel P instead of being fixed makes 200rpm in the clock wise direction, what will be the speed of Q?

If the forked end of the driving shaft rotates 45 degrees from the horizontal plane, find the torque required to drive the shaft to overcome the inertia of the flywheel. (10M) 5. A cam rotating with uniform angular Velocity operates a reciprocating follower through a roller of 50mm diameter. The line of stroke of the follower is 25 mm from the axis of the

cam, the stroke of the follower is 50 mm and the minimum radius of the cam is 50mm. the follower is required to move outwards and inwards with S.H.M, each stroke occupying 75 degrees of the cam rotation with 600 rest in between. For the remainder of the stroke the follower is at rest at the bottom of the stroke. The belt is 6mm thick 120mm wide and weighs 12 KN/m3. Allowing a slip of 2.5% between the belt and each pulley, determine the size of second pulley and percentage of total effective slip. An input torque of 100 N-m is given to the shaft B at 900 r.p.m. The sun and planet gears are all of the same diameter and pitch. Determine the speed and torque of the output shaft C, if the efficiency is 96%. Also determine the torque required to hold stationary the annulus wheel A1. (16M)

4. a) What is the condition for correct steering gear? (4M) b) In a Hookes coupling connecting a pair of shafts, the angle between their axes is 240. The power supplied to the driving shaft is 6 KW and uniform speed of the driving shaft is 260 rpm. If the output torque on the driven shaft is not to vary by more than 20% of input torque, what is the necessary radius of gyration of flywheel of 300 N weight. (12M)

A symmetrical tangent cam operating roller follower has the following data: Least radius of the cam =30mm; roller radius =17.5 mm; angle of ascent = 750; Total lift = 17.5 mm; speed of camshaft =600 rpm. Calculate the principal dimensions of the cam, the acceleration of the follower at the beginning of the lift, at the apex of the circular nose. Assume that there is no dwell between ascent and descent. (16M) 6. a) Derive expressions for minimum number of teeth on pinion and gear having involute teeth in terms of pressure angle, gear ratio and the co-efficient by which the standard addendum in module is to be multiplied. b) Two involutes gears of 200 pressure angle are in mesh. The number of teeth on pinion is 20 and gear ratio is 2. If the pitch expressed in module is 5mm and pitch line speed is 1.2 m/s, assuming addendum as standard and equal to one module, Find: i) the angle turned through by pinion when one pair of teeth is in mesh. ii) The maximum velocity of sliding. (4M) b) An epicyclic train is composed of a fixed annular wheel A having 150 teeth. The wheel A is in mesh with wheel B. The wheel B drives a wheel D through an idle wheel C, D being concentric with A. Wheels B and C are carried on an arm which revolves Clockwise at 120 rpm about the axis of A and D. If the wheels B and D have 25 and 40 teeth respectively, determine the number of teeth on C and the speed of rotation of wheel C. (12M)
