01. The Contest Theme:

The goal of the contest is development of two cooperative recyclerobots(one manual and one autonomous) helping in recycling the waste of the urban and rural areas in a more efficient and proper way to keep the environment clean. We at ROBOSAPIENS want to have some finest Recyclopse to manage the proper recycling phenomenon overcoming the impediments due to under-developed roadways of the rural areas and enjoying the smooth curve of the city highway.

02. Outline of the contest:

The game will start with both the robots of RED and BLUE teams in their respective start zones. Each team consist of no more than two Robots: one Manual and one Autonomous Robot. The Autonomous Robot is a line follower, which is intended to take the rural waste to the recycling plant supplied by the manual robot. The Autonomous Bot starts moving as soon as it gets the Rural waste block. The manual robot will also have to load the urban waste cube over the Autonomous robot while it will be moving. This additional urban waste cube should be put on the Autonomous robot only while it is moving, carrying the rural waste cube. The Manual Robot initially has to pick the rural waste cube from the common starting zone following the path NH-1.Then it should place the cube on the Autonomous robot at the exchange zone from where the Autonomous robot will follow the line to place the waste on the recycling plant. At the same time while Autonomous robot will be moving, manual robot should carry the urban waste cube from the urban waste zone and will dump on the moving Autonomous robot so that it can recycle properly on the recycling plant. Once the Autonomous robot crosses the city border line manual robot will not be allowed to dump the city waste over Autonomous robot. When the Autonomous robot reaches the recycling plant, a team member unloads the waste blocks as well as brings back the Autonomous robot to its starting

point. After passing the rural waste block for the first time to the autonomus bot, manual robot has to follow the pathway (NH-2or NH-3) to pass the rural waste blocks to the Autonomous robot. Time limit for the game is 5 minutes. The team that will deposit more waste will be declared as a winner.

05. Structure of tournament:

a). All the willing participants are required to send an abstract at robosapiens@cognizance.org.in before 28th Feb. 2012. Best 50 teams will be given a chance to compete in the event. b). The tournament will be held on a knockout basis of top 32 teams as decided through preliminary round. c). For the preliminary round, the teams will have to complete all tasks in the arena. Total points scored by each team (details in 9.0) will be recorded. To qualify for knockout round, teams would be selected based on their earned score. d). In case of tie at preliminary level, points earned by autonomous robots will be considered. And if it is still a tie then total time taken by each team to achieve the last check point (which bots would have achieved) will be considered. e). For the knockouts, matches will be like: 1st team vs. 32nd team, 2nd team vs. 31st team and so on in order of increasing scores. f). The team which will cover the recycling procedure sequentially in a more efficient way will be declared as a winner. g). In case one of the team is disqualified, the match will be considered complete, with the other team declared as winner. h). The match may be stopped in between if the referees judge that continuation of the match is impossible.

06. Game Procedure:

A). Length of a game:
i). Each match lasts 5 minutes at most. ii). In any of the following cases, the match ends immediately (even before 5 minutes). Disqualification is announced in the game. When the referee judges that the game cannot continue.

B). Setting of robots:

i). One minute is given for setting of robots before the game starts. ii). At most four members of each team can engage in setting of robots. iii). Any teams that fail to complete setting of the robots within one minute can resume the setting again once the game starts.

C). Deployment of the robots and team members at the start of the game:
i). Manual Robot must be started in Manual Start Zone. ii). Autonomous Robot must be started in Autonomous Start Zone. iii). At most only 2 people can perform the task of starting and bringing back the Autonomous Robot. After starting the Autonomous robot, the team members who perform the starting action must not touch it again without the permission of referee.

07. Competition Task and general Restrictions:

1) The manual robot will have to start from the manual starting point. It has to pick the rural waste cube from the rural waste zone. 2) It should follow the pathway NH-1 to reach the exchange zone where it has to unload the urban waste cube on the Autonomous robot. 3) Only one rural waste cube is allowed to be picked at a time by the manual robot for every turn. 4) After receiving the block, Autonomous robot will start from the Autonomous starting zone. 5) The manual robot at the same time has to pick the urban waste cube from the urban waste cube zone and it will load the waste cube over the moving Autonomous robot. At the instant of loading the Autonomous robot should not be stationary nor out of its zone. 6) Once the Autonomous robot crosses the city border line manual robot is not allowed to load the waste over Autonomous robot. 7) Autonomous robot, on reaching the recycling plant should stop and one of team member should unload the waste and bring it back to the

starting zone for restart. 8) The manual robot can go back to its starting position following path NH1 at any instant after loading the Autonomous robot. 9) Then after picking the rural waste it should follow either path NH-2 or path NH-3 to reach the exchange zone. 10) Hitting to the check posts should be avoided. Penalty of points will be awarded for hitting check posts at NH-3. 11) There will be a stack zone where manual robot can stack the rural waste cube blocks but not the common rural waste cube. Manual robot can pick more than 1 urban waste cube at a time but their stacking is not allowed. 12) Manual robot can only unload the urban waste blocks when the Autonomous robot is in motion on its prescribed path. 13) For the deviation of the line by the Autonomous robot it will have to take a restart and the points for each urban waste cube hence loaded by Manual robot will be less. 14) Points will only be earned by the manual robot after crossing the checkpoint 1 with the rural waste block picked from the rural waste zone.

08. Retries of Robots:

a). A retry can be made only after the referees permission. Team members are allowed to touch the robots while preparing for a retry. b). Retries of a robot or several robots at the same time can be made as many times as necessary within the 5 minutes of game play. c). A retry of Manual Robot will be made at Manual Start Zone only. d). A retry of Autonomous Robot will be made either at Autonomous Start Zone or from any of the check post which Autonomous robot has cleared before retry in the same run. e). Even if the manual robot fails to successfully carry the waste cube blocks and drops it on the pathway it will be allowed to carry the block from the pathway.

09. Deciding the Winner:

The team that earns higher score is the winner. The score of each task is described as follows:

1). Autonomous Robot crosses the: a) Check point 1 [10 point] b) Restart line 2 [10 point] c) After crossing city border line [15 points for each cubic block at urban waste zone and 20 points for each block at the common urban waste zone]. d) After reaching dumping line [15 points for each cubic block at urban waste zone and 20 points for each block at the common urban waste zone]. e) If the Autonomous robot deviates the line to be followed it will have to take restart from its starting position and the points for each cubic blocks of the urban waste zone and the common urban waste zone will be considered as 5 and10 points, respectively. 2). Manual robot successfuly crosses the Checkpoint 1 [20 points for crossing the checkpoint after picking rural waste block] 3). For hitting the checkposts penalty of 5 points will be there. Now, If the manual robot pick a rural waste cube and crosses the checkpoint 1 then points gained = 20 For loading the rural waste block on Autonomous robot= 10 points If the number of blocks from the urban waste zone and common urban waste zone picked and unloaded over Autonomous robot be A and B respectively and it crosses the first check point and then reached the city border line then the points gained will be 10+(15xA)+(20xB). After crossing the restart point 2 and then the dumping line points gained will be 10+ [(15xA)+(20XB)] Then, total points gained on one run will be: 30+20+2[(15XA)+(20XB)] = 50+2[(15XA)+(20XB)] If the Autonomous robot fails to follow the line then it will have to take restart and then if it completes the whole task then points gained will be 50+2[(5XA) + (10XB)]

The game result:

The game result is announced at the end of the 5 minute match, after the referee checks and confirms the completed tasks. The Match will end when: End of 5 minutes. One of the teams is disqualified. All rural urban waste cubes are transported to the recycling plant.
