Love God
March 2012
March 01, 2012 Dear CCV Family, I have been giving a lot of thought to this past Sundays message and what the Bible has to say about love. We briefly looked at 1 Corinthians 13 and what love according to the scriptures should look like. My plea at the end of the message was to care for those who are in danger of falling through the tears in the fabric of our own church. Then, of course, that afternoon, the event of the Academy Awards is on for the whole world to see. So we get to watch the biggest names in Hollywood strutting their stuff on the red carpet. All the while Im thinking, thankfully there is only a small percentage of people whose reality is the Hollywood fantasy. Then, my scripture reading for this morning was Revelation 18, under the heading of The Fall of Babylon. As I read those 24 verses in Revelation, I was reminded of the image of the red carpet from Sunday night. In verse 4, we read; Then I heard another voice coming from heaven saying Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share her plagues. As I read that, my mind went back to what I read earlier in Chapters 2 and 3, specifically Jesus warning to the church at Thyatira and Laodicea. Both of those churches were being drawn into the power and pleasure of Babylons value system. Jesus said, I know your works: you are neither hot nor cold. Would that you were either cold or hot! So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot or cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. Rev.3:15-16. The church at Laodicea had become self-reliant and because of that, their focus was not on Jesus. I wonder if the church today is being drawn in to the power and pleasure of Hollywoods value system? I wonder if weve become self-reliant and because of that, have lost our focus as well? Have we become lukewarm? Jesus said, Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. V.19 I am brought back to the thought, we have much to do as a church but how do we meet what appears to be overwhelming needs within our own church family? We have fatherless boys and girls, we have single moms struggling to provide for their families and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Families are struggling financially, therefore our church is struggling financially. What do we do? Jesus said, PRAY! Matt. 7:7-8. We must refocus on Him. I want to close with a quote from Jim Cymbalas book: Fresh Wind-Fresh Fire, then I want to simply encourage you to come and pray with us every Sunday before service at 9am, in the office and then, watch God work. You can tell how popular a church is by who comes on Sunday morning. You can tell how popular the Pastor or evangelist is by who comes on Sunday night. But you can tell how popular Jesus is by who comes to the prayer meeting. Will you join arms with our small band of prayer warriors as we boast in Jesus Christ? Thankfully He still stands at the door and knocks.
