Quinn is a new user to hacklordz. He creates an account, supplying a user name, password, and an email address.

After creating a user he chooses his archtype, which is either Guardian, Breaker, Cold One, or Plague Bringer (these names are very subject to change). He knows each one gives a bonus to one of the four program types in the game, and sets the starting research. He choses to be a Plague Bringer, giving him a 10% bonus to virus statistics and conferring him a bonus in virus research. Entering the main game screen he has 4 main choices (Load, Code, Hack, and Run) and 4 minor choices (Buy, Messaging, Chat, and Help). He checks his status screen which shows his system looks fine, and his ekg is clear, indicating his system has not been attacked. The base deck he starts with comes with 64mb of ram and a 30gb drive. Although he has a small amount of data that is given to him at the start of the game, he chooses not to use to upgrade his deck. Although this deck only gives him one nanosecond every 10 minutes of real time, as a new player he has 100 nanoseconds available to him (these starting seconds cannot be used to attack other players). Quinn, or Hacktrix as he has chosen to name his user, feels he needs to research new programs. Clicking Code he heads into the research screen, seeing that as a plague bringer he has received all level 1 viruses and one random program from each of the other 3 categories. Feeling he is already strong in the virus category he looks to the other choices. He does not like the inoculation he has received at random and sees that he can learn blockade.009. The research screen says that he can learn blockade is 62 nanoseconds. He chooses blockade as he research choice and types in 66 nanoseconds, not realizing that that is more than nessisary. He clicks the research button and the computer alerts his that blockade research has been completed, using only 62 of his nanoseconds. Happy with his new program Hacktrix feels he needs to load some programs into ram so he isnt defenseless (he knows that once he has spent his initial 100 nanoseconds he will be open to attack). He uses the remaining nanos to load two viruses, one ice, and one inoculation into his ram. The next day Hacktrix logs in and sees that he has a message. Opening it he sees that his friend LordNikon has send him a welcome message, he mentions that his group would love to have him join them, and to help him out he has attached a small amount of data and a level 2 ice breaker. Hacktrix decides to click the buy button, logging into the digital underground. While there he uses almost all his data to buy an additional 12mb of ram, which is auto-installed into his system. It has been 20 hours since he last played and has accumulated 120 nanoseconds. He has looked at the programs in his archive and sees that in addition to his normal programs he has a set of standard programs that all users have (and cannot be destroyed or stolen). One of them is a sweep program that searches the grid for servers that are within his power range to attack. He decides to use this program and chooses Run from the main menu. Choosing sweep from the list, which takes 5 nanos to run, he gets a list of 20 servers, 10 above his power level, ten below. Feeling he is rather weak he decides to attack the weakest server. He returns to the main menu and loads his new icebreaker into his ram. He then clicks on the hack button and types in 204.138.4.1, the IP address of the server he has chosen. He is greated by a web site home page of Morgan Savings & Trust. He does not know the login and password to the server (and without specialty icebreaking software he probably never will), so he clicks the glowing hack button in the corner of the screen. The screen flashes full of code and one by one the screen lists all the ice and icebreakers that are being launched, followed by the viruses and

inoculations. Finnaly a summary screen appears. Reading the results he sees that one of his viruses has gotten through, although its effects have been blunted by the inoculation software. He sees that he has stolen a small amount of data and 4% of an unknown program. He decides not to hack again and instead hits the code button. Bringing up the info on his new program he sees that all the information about it is jumbled and unreadable. He checks the integrity of the file and sees that it is 96% damaged. He decides he wishes to try and repair the code and chooses that option, repairing it to 32% damaged with 76 of his nanoseconds. He can almost make out the name of the program and looks to be an inoculation of some kind. He chooses the messaging button and sends a message to LordNikon, remembering that he had a specialy program to repair damaged programs. He head back into his code screen and is in the process of researching a new Ice when his screen shakes. Clicking back to his main screen he immediately notice his ekg has turned yellow, indicating he has been attaked. His status screen shows the phrase error eating drive C: and it list that he has been attacked by CoolBurn, along with damaged caused by the attack. He sees that LordNikon is online and starts a chat with him. LordNikon apologizes for that attack, as it would seem Coolburn is a member of a rival group. He warns that the message he sees about error eating drive c indicates he has been infected with the demon virus (a corrupt over time virus), which will damage his system whenever he uses a nonsecond. He tells him to wait a minute and messages the highest guardian in his group that is currently online. The guardian, Healzplz, has just finished researching an executable cleaner that can remove demon. Being a guardian he has a special ability that allows him to target others with his beneficial inoculation executables (only guardians can do this). Healzplz runs Versus 2.0 on Hacktrix and successfully cleans demon off his system. He then runs scandrive on Hacktrixs deck, warning him that although he can check his system memory for memory resident viruses, many viruses have stealthing, which keeps the virus from being listed on attack reports and makes them invisible in the system memory. He tells Hacktrix that if he handnt noticed the error eating drive C message he would never have known he was attacked. Hacktrix thanks him, and realizes he has to log off. Before he does he unloads his viruses and loads in extra ice in case he is attacked again. He tells LordNikon that he is leaving and is told not to worry, as one of the groups cold ones has set his system to guard Hacktrix, any attack that targets hacktrix now has a good chance of hitting the cold one user instead.
