Term Project: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONCEPTS IN THE CITY (A Photo Sketchbook)

"It takes an unusual mind to analyze the obvious."

(Alfred North Whitehead)

OBJECTIVE: This project aims for the students to be able to read behind the architectural product and analyze these in the architectural theory context particularly with design concepts (form, space and order) METHODOLOGY: Visual research in and around the designed/built environs of the city of Tagbilaran, looking for examples of architectural design concepts discussed in this course/subject. OUTPUT: Photograph(s) and/or sketches with accompanying write-up/ description Guidelines: 1. The term research project will be done individually. Attached here is the list of design concepts randomly assigned to each student. 2. For each concept, the student must take a photo (or sketch) of three (3) examples of the assigned concepts as they are applied architecturally (interior or exterior). Three (3) multiplied by four (4) concept categories, each student must present at least 12 concept examples. These must be taken in not less than four (4) architectural structure/building/ space. Variety and innovation in procuring your images will be considered in the evaluation. The images must be from recognizable architectural structures in the city, and labeled appropriately. An example template is also given below. 3. For your description, please consider the following guide questions:
a. b. Why did you choose the image/architectural feature to correspond to your assigned design concept? Does the applied concept contribute to the overall design of the structure/space aesthetically and functionally?

4. BE CREATIVE. In both your photographs/ sketches and your explanations. What to comply: 1. WRITTEN PRESENTATION (50%) a. ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONCEPTS IN THE CITY (A Photo Sketchbook) soft copy only in slideshow or PowerPoint presentation format (.ppt or .swf)
Please follow basic slide presentation rules (i.e. 6x6 rule, KISS: Keep It Short & Simple, etc.). File name must be: TOA1-YOURSURNAME (example: TOA1-AQUINO)

b. DEADLINE: Written Presentation must be submitted on or before (Tuesday) 27 March, 2012 via email to lizamacalandag@gmail.com with the subject line TOA1: Term Project by (YOURSURNAME) c. Evaluation Criteria: Concept/ Originality Visual Analysis
The photograph/sketch should speak for itself.

2. ORAL PRESENTATION (50%) a. Audio Visual Presentation of your individual project shall be on Wednesday, 28 March 2012, 25PM in any of the available rooms in the A&ID Department (i.e., Mr. Mikis or Arch. Collyers). b. The CLASS MAYOR (or his appointed representative) must take charge in borrowing the projector at the Deans office in advance and shall prepare and set it up ahead of the 2PM presentation schedule. c. Each student shall be given 5 minutes only to present his/her Photo Sketchbook in front of the class. Please take note of the given time, a presentation extremely shorter than or exceeding the allotted time may be a cause for demerit. d. The oral presentation will be peer-evaluated, as well as teacher-evaluated. e. Evaluation Criteria: Clarity, Brevity and Strength of Oral Analysis Overall Quality of Presentation Total
