1st Lt James Kalemis Nine cadets from our squadron join the cadets from the Lake in the Hills Squadron to launch their rockets. It was a beautiful, sunny day, albeit a bit windy. All the cadets launched their Alpha rockets and a few launched their X Prize rockets before they were cancelled due to high winds. Witnessing the launches were Capts Dave Picek and Bill Watson from Lake in the Hills Composite Squadron and Lts James Kalemis and Bob Kryscha from McHenry County Composite Squadron. Spectators sharing the fun and exceitment on that beautiful day were Major Rhonda Anderson, Lt Col Ken Anderson, Lt Mike McMahon, Lt Paul Ebanks and Wing Administrator Debbie Schulteis.

The weekly meetings are fun, but there is so much more to CAP. To get the full benefits of the program, you should become involved in other CAP activities. Consider an encampment - in addition to being a lot of fun, attendance at encampment is required for promotion to cadet officer. If you are interested in learning more about the encampment experience, ask Cadet S. Hendler, who served as Executive Officer at Spring Encampment this year. Also attending IL Wing Spring Encampment from MCCS were Cadets Chappell and Threadgill-Lazov. The cadets furthered their CAP education and are eager to put into practice the skills they developed. Now it's time to look ahead at some exiting programs and activities that are available to MCCS cadets. Note: this is not a complete list, just a sampling of activities that are available beyond weekly meetings.

ILLINOIS WING SUMMER ENCAMPMENT. 21 July 28 July 2007. Marseilles Training Center, Marseilles, IL. During the week long encampment, cadets will attend classes covering topics such as US Air Force structure and mission, aerospace power, and aerospace heritage; CAP emergency services, aerospace education, the cadet program, and aerospace career opportunities and requirements. Cadets will participate in physical fitness, and drill & ceremonies activities daily. Orientation flights in gliders and powered aircraft, when available. Throughout all activities, the values of discipline, teamwork, personal responsibility, sportsmanship, confidence, and respect are taught and encouraged. For more information and encampment application visit http:// www.ilcap.org/se2007/

WOODSTOCK MEMORIAL DAY PARADE 28 May. Woodstock, Illinois Who doesn't love a parade! Shine your boots, press your uniform and come out and march with MCCS at the Woodstock Memorial Day parade.

KING OF THE ROCK CADET INITIATIVE 3-5 August. Rock Cut State Park, Loves Park Illinois. King of the Rock is a cadet team-building challenge, camp out, cookout and a great weekend. Teams of six cadets and one diabolical seventh member (last year it was a tomato) compete in events designed to test ingenuity, teamwork and skill. Let's get ready to make 2007 the year MCCS earns the traveling trophy.

FLYERS AND TIRES. 11-12 August. Galt Airport. Be a part of the action! Galt Airport is asking for our help so mark this one on your calendar. Galt Airport has been very generous to MCCS. Let's show our appreciation by helping out with Flyers and Tires. There will be hot rods, antique and military aircraft, stunt-flying demos, motorcycles food and fun! For more information aircraft and events at Flyers and Tires visit http://www.flyers-tires.com/ As you can see, there are many different activities available. Check the Weekly Activities and Current Events handout or go to www. Group22.net/mccs/events.doc for current listing of upcoming events.

M ORAL L EADERSHIP L ESSON

Major Rhonda Anderson So you need a new car, a new house, or a new pair of pants. Do you buy a Porsche or a Cavalier? A mansion or a humble bungalow? Will Lee jeans do or do you absolutely "need" Calvin Klein? Is there any truth to the statement, "If I want it, I need it?" I suppose the answer to that question will be different for everyone. I can't word it any better than the lesson guide: "It has been said, Just because you want it, it doesn't mean that you need it. There is truth in the statement, but what if your major wants are the same as your needs. Better yet, what if your wants are to meet the needs of others?" What a novel idea! One many of us could be reminded of daily. How many of us would have a better day, a better week, a better month, a better life, if instead of self focus, we were other focused? When it comes to this topic, speaking to CAP personnel is rather like preaching to the choir. After all, CAP = Come And Provide. In CAP we do what we WANT to do, and what we do is provide for the NEEDS of others. It is one thing to think about us and the things we personally need or want, but it is a GRAND thing to put aside our own needs and wants to help others. And one small reminder: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house...or anything that belongs to your neighbor" Exodus 20:17, Hebrew Scriptures Have you ever noticed how the commands in the scriptures that seem so restrictive, really are designed to give us peace, joy, and true happiness? Is happiness found in always wanting? I don't think so.
