Programme Overview
The extension was announced by the UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in July 2010 Both Governments confirmed funding to support the programme The programme would continue from 2011 till 2016 Four strands of programme:

UKIERI Strand 1
Leadership Development: Enhancing capacity of individuals and institutions on leadership skills for future Objective:
To increase leadership capacity in schools and develop and deliver a programme that will meet the needs of the Indian education system To develop an academic HE leadership programme that provides core knowledge and skills required to become an effective leader and link centres of excellence of Higher Education, both India and the UK To develop an academic FE leadership programme that provides knowledge and skills required for institutional leadership in Further Education institutions and colleges and thereby creating sustainable linkages between India and the UK FEIs

UKIERI Strand 2
Innovation Partnerships: Providing opportunities for institutions to collaborate on innovation and thematic partnerships Objectives:
To support the development of sustainable, partnerships between UK Higher Education Institutions across themes including Science & Arts & Humanities supported by University Grants and Department of Science and Technology institutional and Indian Technology, Commission

To establish Tripartite Partnerships between US/UK/India through research collaboration and science and technology partnerships

UGC Thematic Partnerships


Key points to remember for bidding
The strand activity will strengthen engagement and encourage future potential collaborations between the Indian and UK higher education institutions by facilitating collaborations on innovation All institutions across themes are eligible to apply Direct costs of staff time, administration, equipment, infrastructure and overhead costs are not included in the grant funding Duration of partnership may not be lower than 12 nor exceed 24 months All Indian HEIs which are recognised under the Section 2(f) and 12 B of the UGC Act can apply Value of each partnership funded under this sub strand will not be greater than 60,000 per project proposal

DST Thematic Partnerships


Key points to remember for bidding
The strand activity will strengthen engagement and encourage future potential collaborations between the Indian and UK higher education institutions by facilitating collaborations on innovation Direct costs of staff time, administration, equipment, infrastructure and overhead costs are not included in the grant funding Duration of partnership may not be lower than 12 nor exceed 24 months Only 5 themes currently open:

Value of each partnership funded under this sub strand will not be greater than 40,000 per project proposal

Trilateral Research in Partnership


Key points to remember for bidding
Providing opportunities to expand existing co-operation as well as develop new relationships between UK, US and Indian higher education institutions Strengthening the cadre of PhD students and post-docs in all three countries in developing international team work, problem solving and innovation in research Increasing mobility of PhD students and post-docs between India, the UK and the US Duration of partnership should not be lower than 12 months nor exceed 24 months Value of each partnership funded under this sub strand will not be greater than 50,000 per project proposal

UKIERI Strand 3
Skills Development: Enhancing UK India collaborations in Skills development
Objectives:
To provide opportunities to institutes/organisations/consortia for training need identification and for delivery of training in partnership with industry bodies/SMEs To enable the development of a strong Indian sector skills infrastructure focusing on employer engagement approaches, developing curriculum, occupation standards, qualifications, certification and assessment etc To provide travel grants to facilitate partner finding and scoping visits with an objective to work on a full grant proposal

Skills Travel Grant


Key points to remember for bidding
The strand activity aims to facilitate organisation/institutions in partner finding and developing models for collaboration for scoping and developing activities under the two sub strands of Skills Development Each application must be endorsed by the respective project lead and the head of lead organisation/institute Value for each travel grant will not be more than 1500 for individual institution/organisation and not more than 3000 for consortia of institution/organisation

Sector Skills Collaboration


Key points to remember for bidding
The strand activity aims to support the development of key infrastructure elements with focus on strengthening Sector Skills Bodies and their engagement with industry/business Activities to support curriculum development, National Occupational Standards (NOS), National Vocational Educational Framework (NVQF), Labour Market Information System (LMIS), training of trainers, certification, quality assurance, certification & assessment etc covered under the funding Involvement of SMEs, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics will be an added advantage Duration of partnership should not be lower than 24 months nor exceed 36 months Direct costs of staff time, administration, equipment, infrastructure and overhead costs are not included in the grant funding Value of each partnership funded under this sub strand will not be greater than 65,000 per project proposal

Institutional Capacity Building


Key points to remember for bidding
The strand activity aims to build capacity and provide support to vocational education institutions through training and development of teaching/training staff Activities to support curriculum development, quality assurance, training of trainers, certification & assessment in line with NVQF and sector skills councils Duration of partnership may not be lower than 24 months nor exceed 36 months Value of each partnership funded under this sub strand will not be greater than 45,000 per project proposal Direct costs of staff time, administration, equipment, infrastructure and overhead costs are not included in the grant funding

Enhancing mobility: Fostering student mobility and mutual recognition of learning

Objectives:
To develop policies/framework to support mutual recognition and equivalence of learning and achievement Strengthening of cultural linkages between India and the UK Creating opportunities for student mobility between UK and India

India UK Staff Exchange Programme


Key points to remember for bidding
The strand activity aims to promote staff exchanges between Higher Education/Further Education institutions and schools across India and the UK for up to 4 weeks to share and deliver best practices on curriculum and pedagogy The programme would work for enhancing capacity of teaching staff in Higher Education/Further Education (HE/FE) institutions and schools who would directly further cascade and implement the learnings in their respective institutions. All the exchange visits should complete by end of February 2013 Value or each exchange visit will not be greater than 3,000 per proposal

India UK Study Missions


Key points to remember for bidding
Joint applications for grant funding to UK and Indian Institutions to offer and facilitate study tours of students in India and the UK in the following areas/themes: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Social work Fashion design Architecture Creative Arts & Media History Economy

The planned duration of this partnership may not exceed 24 months Value of project awards for facilitating partnerships will not be greater than 45,000 per project proposal

The application form, guidelines and attachments are available on the website You are strongly advised to download and read the Guidelines before deciding whether or not to apply for a bid UKIERI Secretariat will only accept one submission per proposal Follow the word limits and provide only relevant information A institution can submit more than one proposal
