IFSSO Executive Board to Meet in Jakarta in May

LIPI to Host 12th Science Council of Asia Conference

IFSSO to Co-Sponsor International Thinkshop in Tokyo

cont... the IFSSO Secretariat office from Manila to Jakarta; 4) the appeal of former IFSSO President Teruyuki Komatsu to include one representative of the Science Council of Japan (SCJ) as member of the Executive Board; 5) proposed activities for 2012 to 2013; and 6) plans for the 21st IFSSO General Conference in 2013. With regards to the latter agenda, bids to host the next General Conference were received from New Delhi, India and Istanbul, Turkey. The IFSSO Executive Board is composed of IFSSO President Nestor Castro, First VicePresident Keokam Kraisarophong, Second VicePresident I Ketut Ardhana, Secretary General Yekti Maunati, Treasurer Emre Serbetci, and Members Leon Ramos, Ranjit Sinha, Hidasi Judit, and Ludovic Kibora. Former IFSSO President Teruyuki Komatsu is also attending the Executive Board meeting. Aside from the Executive Board members, representatives of current and potential IFSSO members in the region have been invited to attend the meeting as Obser vers. The following organizations have confirmed their participation in the meeting: IFSSO-Philippines, IFSSOIndonesia, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and the Research and Development Centre for Social, Economic, and Environment (RDCSEE) of the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works. The Udayana University has also been invited to attend the meeting.

Among the topics to be covered by the International Symposium are: 1) Food Security/ Food Safety; 2) Eco-financing; 3) Green Policies; 4) Renewable Resources; 5) Green Technology; and 6) Green Jobs and Incentives. Those interested in presenting papers to the Symposium may submit the abstract of their proposed papers to bkpilipi@yahoo.com or to bkpi@mail.lipi.go.id on or before March 16, 2012. LIPI is a Full Member Organization of IFSSO. LIPI Chair man Prof. Dr. Lukman Hakim is currently also the President of the Science Council of Asia. The SCA is made up of Science councils and institutions from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Thinkshop will be divided into four panel sessions, namely: Hegemonic Relations in International Knowledge Encounters; Knowledges versus Knowledge; Indigenization A Strategy Against Hegemonic Sciences; and How to Construct Nonhegemonic Sciences. IFSSO President Nestor Castro is chairing the panel session on Knowledges versus Knowledge. He is also presenting a paper entitled Challenging Hegemonic Social Sciences: Strategies from the Philippines as part of the last panel session. Aside from IFSSO and World SSH Net, the other sponsors of the Thinkshop are the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the International Social Science Council (ISSC), Knowwhy Global Research, and Seijo University.
