Existen unas reglas generales, y en donde se fundamentan las ms especficas, para pasar de singular a plural en ingls. La primera regla bsica es que los adjetivos no tienen plural, es decir, siempre van en singular, aunque el sustantivo al que acompaen vaya en plural. Lo ms normal es que se le aada una s al sustantivo para formar el plural; aunque tambin existen numerosas excepciones que se tienen que asimilar con la prctica. Los no contables van siempre en singular. book (libro) -> books El sustantivo tambin puede acabar en es cuando se presenta en plural. Esto es as cuando ste acaba en s o en un sonido parecido al de la s, como por ejemplo z, ch, x o sh. Tambin cuando acaba en o aade es. bus (autobs) -> buses tomato (tomate) -> tomatoes Cuando un sustantivo termina en vocal o en y, se le aade slamente s. Aqu hay un detalle sin embargo, si antes de esa y hay una consonante, se cambia la y por i y se aade es. table (mesa) -> tables lady (seorita) -> ladies Otra regla especfica para formar el plural en ingls. De los sustantivos que acaban en f y fe, hay algunos que sustituyen estas letras por v, y se les aade es. Veamos un par de ejemplos: wife (esposa) -> wives wolf (lobo) -> wolves Tambin hay ciertas palabras que, al pasarlas al plural, no siguen ninguna regla; por lo que debers aprender su plural de memoria.
