1. Introduction
1.1 Welcome
Welcome to the Frilo.2010 installation manual. Frilo.2010 consists of a number of stand-alone applications for structural analysis, compatible with Windows XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7. These programs are very dedicated and have a limited field of application. Frilo offers software for concrete, steel and wood with a localized GUI and regional support of the Eurocodes. In a first phase Scia will support a number of modules for concrete and one application for masonry. Scia will continue localizing other modules and you can expect more applications in the near future. This manual describes the procedure for the installation of the software.

1.2 System requirements

To be able to install Frilo, we advise to check the following system requirements.

1.2.1 Hardware demands

1.2.2 Software demands

Windows XP SP2 Vista Windows 7 You can always find information about the latest version and service-pack on www.microsoft.com FlexNET is compatible with: Windows XP 32/64 bit Windows Vista 32/64 bit Windows 2008 server 64 bit Windows 7- 32/64 bit We advise to have the latest service pack installed for the operating systems mentioned.

2. Previously...
You have acquired the software via our webshop. The delivery of the software itself consists of 3 parts. The setup: Frilo_2010.2.[x].zip [x] refers to the version of the setup. You can also find the latest version of the setup at the following location:

A licence file Administration (delivery note, invoice, installation manual) The installation is described in the following chapter. Before initiating the setup, it is important to save the setup, which you received, on your hard drive. The setup is a compressed file. Create a new folder e.g. C:/Frilo/Setup and save the file you have received. Right-click this file and select Extract all. The file will be extracted into the selected folder. 3. Local installation, Local protection

The Frilo-software is installed locally on your computer. During the first 30 days after installation, the software will run in demo-mode. This means that all available modules can be used without any restriction. After the trial period a licence is required. The protection of the software can be a local softlock or a network licence. Both systems are based on the FlexNet-software. The following procedure will guide you through the setup of the Frilo software as well as the Flexnet protection.

3.1 Remove the old version

In some cases an existing version of the Frilo software can cause problems when installing a newer version. It is therefore wise to uninstall the current version and proceed to the next chapter once this is done. The best way to uninstall the current version is via Control panel => Add / remove software

Please remove the largest of both entries (item of about 280 MB).

3.2 The installation...

In the previous chapter we explained how to prepare the setup. To get things going, please double-click the file Frilo2010Setup.exe. The installation is being prepared...

3.3 Choice of the protection

In the next dialog you need to make a choice regarding the type of protection you want to use. Local Softlock Network License Trial version If you have bought the software, you have also received a licence. Depending on the type of protection (local vs network), please make the appropriate choice. If you do not (yet) have a licence-file, please use the option Trial-version. The software runs in demo-mode during the first 30 days. This allows you to evaluate all modules without any restriction. During this period there is no difference between a licenced and a non-licenced version. After the 30-day trial-period the modules will cease to work. Only the modules for which you have a valid licence will be operational.

Click [Next] The setup will now start copying the necessary files to your computer.

For the installation of the protection you can decide on which location it is placed. By default the path is set to C:\Program Files\Frilo\. We advise you to keep this setting. Advanced users can of course select another path.

3.4 Setting the default-parameters.

The Frilo software includes the Eurocode design standard, including the national annexes for Belgium, The Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The software has been localized and is available in Dutch, Czech and English. During the setup a number of default parameters, including the national annex and the language of the interface, will be set. The setup uses the country of the user to make a preselection. If you want to alter these settings, you can do so accordingly.

Based on the settings, the registries are filled and we are are almost at the end of the setup.

A small logfile is displayed on screen, showing you the registry entries which were set.

You can close this window and proceed with the setup.

Click [Close] to finish this part of the installation.

3.5 Installation of the protection

Next comes the installation of the protection. As mentioned previously, the Frilo-software is protected by FlexNet. The necessary files for the protection are copied to your computer in this second part of the setup.

Click [Finish] to close the dialog and finish the installation.

3.6 Configuration of the protection

The configuration of the protection can be split up into 2 parts. Activating the softlock-licence Management of the modules

3.6.1 Activate the licence

After the installation of FlexNet you are automatically redirected to the activation utility: Scia Activation Manager

The delivery of the software included a Licence ID (*.LID)-file. Please read this file by using the button on the top right: [Read Licence ID]. The Licence ID is not the actual licence. The licence is generated online by the Scia Activation server which requires a kind of access-code. This is exactly what the LID-file is doing: grant access to the activation server, in order to be able to request a licence. Once the LID-file has been read, we need to request the licence. Please select the ID-numbers.

Scia Engineer Attention: Should you have left this dialog for any reason (e.g. by clicking ESC), its pretty easy to get it back on screen: you can find the Activation Manager in the Windows Start menu, under the folder Frilo2010:

You can also find the application on the path C:\Program Files\Common Files\SCIA\Protection\Frilo\Activation\ActivationUtility.exe As soon as you have clicked the button [Activate licence], the computer will try to connect with the Activation Server and request for a licence. It speaks for itself that you need to be connected to the internet to do so. It is also good to know that the licence is strictly personal and linked to the computer on which you are doing the activation. A number of hardwarespecifications from that machine will be stored in the licence and also stored in the activation server. Requesting a license with the same LID-file from another computer after the activation is restricted. Hardware-modifications to your computer could lead to a broken licence in the future. In the case when a hardware-modification is imminent (e.g. caused by a crash, malfunction, failure..) please make sure you follow the proper procedure. Its wise to contact our helpdesk; they can assist you in taking the necessary precautions. The notification you are receiving after the activation is more or less telling you the above. Click [OK] to proceed.

When the activation is successful, the blue circle in front of the ID-number will turn into a green one. The Licence status also changes from Not yet activated into Active. You will also notice that a number of buttons in the managerscreen become active, others no longer are. It would take us too far to go into every detail of the Activation manager. Once the licence is activated, you can close this dialog with [Close].

It is good to reboot your computer after the activation of the licence. A number of new services need to be started and this is done automatically during a reboot. This way all new registries are taken into account as well..

3.6.2 Manage the licence

After the activation of the licence you can start Frilo. In case you would like to consult or manage the content of your licence, you can launch the application Protection setup, to be found under the same folder in Windows Start.

This dialog is the same as for Scia Engineer, hence the different types of protection; If you already have Scia Engineer installed on your system with a FlexLM protection, you might find other modules as well. For us, only the option only floating is of importance. Using the button Apply / Refresh we can display the most up-to-date situation of the commercial modules in your licence. You can switch some of the modules you have on or off, but when you are using a stand-alone installation with local protection, this does not make much sense. Only when using a network-licence, it might be useful to only reserve those modules you need, and leave all the rest available on the server for other users. In a stand-alone installation its best when they are all switched on.
