Approximate design of CZ-4

2. Burnout Calculations To calculate the velocity and altitude and determine the burnout performance of the rocket using given parameters. The parameters given approximately agree with parameters checked online. Using MATLAB code and ascent mission performance equations described in class the maximum aerodynamic drag is calculated and the height at which it occurs is tabulated.

Height at which maximum drag occurs=11 km Maximum drag per Area= 2.18*104N/m2 Cross-sectional area of launch vehicle = 10.362 m2 Time after which maxima occurs = 90 sec Total aerodynamic drag = 2.26*105 N Mass of launch vehicle at said time = 1.42 m/s2 Average aerodynamic drag approximated = 0.71 m/s2 Now using ascent equations we get the velocity and height as Vb=1337 m/s Hb=56.557 km

3. Calculation of Burnout time required to half the loss This was not done in a rigorous manner but I failed to determine the exact time since average drag is quite low. The burnout profile turned out to be approximately similar.

4. Constant Pitch rate calculations Using the formulae given we know that the external rate of change of angle can be fixed

q0= 0.00512 sec-1 (t) = 0.00512t+0.05233 V (t) = 2054.6875*sin (0.00512t+0.05233) m (t) = 272.06 e^ (-1.613sin(0.00512t+0.05233)) h (t) = 93.46 (1-cos (0.01024t+0.10466))+3.46
