be closed to traffic at tea
time on Friday 7th
December to allow the
annual Christmas Tree
lights to be switched on in
the the Town Square safely.
This week notices went up
advising drivers that the
road would be closed from
4.30pm until 5.00pm to
allow a short procession of
children to take place from
the Co-op Car Park to the
Town Square safely.
There, the procession will
be met by the Mayor of
Shildon, Cllr Brian Stoker
and his consort Sarah.
Children are being invited
to dress as Kings and
Angels when they gather in
the Co-op Car Park to meet
Father Christmas on the
back of a festively decorated
lorry, and the procession is
open to all children who
want to take part.
The procession will form
up in the Co-op Car Park
from 4.15pm and will set

 GOLDEN COUPLE MET AT THE
SCOUTS HUT
A couple who met at the
Scout Hut in Shildon have
just celebrated their 50th
Wedding Anniversary and
the Chairman of Wear
Valley District Council, Cllr
Eddie Murphy, was guest of
honour at their Tindale
Crescent home .
Eddie popped round with a
bouquet of flowers and a gift
for Harry, 75, and Vera
Watson, 69, (nee
Hancock), who were
married in the Tabernacle
in Robson Street on 30th
November 1957. Although
the Church closed down
many years ago, the building
still stands.
Vera hails from Honiston in
Herefordshire, but came to
Shildon as a young girl and
attended Timothy
Hackworth School whilst
Harry was born in Church
Street, Shildon.
He saw service in the 'Shildon
Shops' for 38 years as a
welder, finishing in 1984.
Vera was a cleaner at Bishop
Auckland Railway Station
and later at UTAB, where
Garnett's Coaches now have
their headquarters at

found himself in breach of
a suspended prison sentence
imposed on him by a Crown
Court earlier this year.

Dobson, of Kilburn Street
in New Shildon, admitted
charges of 'having no
Insurance', 'driving other
than in accordance with a
Driving Licence' and
'driving with excess alcohol'
when he appeared at South
Durham Magistrates' Court
in Newton Aycliffe.
Mr. David Maddison,
appearing on behalf of the
Crown Prosecution Service,
told the Court that Dobson
was given a 9 month prison

as outlined by the C.P.S.
were not disputed.
He suggested that, as Dobson

The workshops were, in

School Dinner system.
The 430 pupils at the School

is facing a Magistrates'
Court trial after denying
that he bought Lager for
three 16 year-olds in Bishop
Auckland in July of this
year.

Shildon, entered his 'Not
Guilty' to the charge at an
earlier Court Hearing and
was, last week, scheduled to
reappear before the South
Durham Magistrates sitting
at Newton Aycliffe for the
Pre-Trial Review Hearing.
Howard also faces a charge
of 'using threatening,
abusive or insulting words
or behaviour' and two
charges of 'assaulting a
Police Constable', these
offences said to have been
