INTRODUCTION
ROLE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
When IT gets in action in retail sector with solutions such as bar-coding, inventory management, BI solutions to electronic POS systems, the prime focus is to attain & attract more customers while keeping the costs low. These values come into picture by taking advantages of new sales channels, marketing & promotions, etc. We can classify the activities of the retail sector into: food retailing, automotive services & retailing, personal goods stores & non store retailing that include vending machines, etc. In this story we would be discussing different functions, their needs and types of retail businesses and the role of IT in retail.

RETAIL INDUSTRY
Indian retail has witnessed a rapid transformation in recent years with old and new business models in the form of department stores, convenience stores, malls, multiplexes, supermarkets, hypermarkets etc. proliferating in number. Driven by its large consumer base, comprising of a young population of over 890 million (below 45 years of age), India is one of the top emerging markets for global retailers. Information technology (IT) has come to play an important role in managing retail operations. Dynamic Vertical Solutions (DVS), an industry leader bringing end-to-end business solutions for the retail and hospitality sectors, put forth some valuable insights into the role of IT in Indias growing retail industry.

RATIONALE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Retail sector being the booming sector in the world so there are lots of complexity involved In retail industry. Using IT in retail sector enables to reduce the problems associated with retail management.

The solutions to the complexities of the retail sector with the help of IT.

Objectives
1. To know about innovations of IT in retail. 2. Significance of IT in retail outlets. 3. To check the satisfaction levels of Retailers with the use of IT enabled equipments.

Methodology
Information and descriptive research will be congregate, for fulfilling the above objectives; both primary and secondary data has been collected. For collecting primary data, Pilot study and Questionnaire was adopted. Personal Interview technique will be adopted to meet the respondents and to collect information. Personal discussion will also be made with the different SME organization.

SAMPLE DESIGN
A sample design is to define plan for obtaining a sample from a given population. It refers to the technique or procedure the researcher would adopt in selecting items for sample. Researcher must prepare a sample design, which should be reliable and appropriate for his research study.
