From the Commander

We have some work to take care of during this Tuesdays meeting! We will begin our Wreaths Across America campaign very early this year by requesting local businesses to sponsor wreaths through a mass mailing. The letters are printed and folded, so all we need to do is stuff envelopes and affix mailing labels and stamps roughly 1600 of them. Hopefully, by getting an early start and a different strategy well be able to place wreaths on all veterans graves at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Thanks to Lee Little Soldier and Robert Johnson for all their work on the letter, and to the rest of the staff for proof reading the letter. The business addresses are from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Directory and the citys list of top 100 businesses. The Texas Wing Conference will be here sooner than you expect. Registration forms are due to me this Tuesday so that the squadron can pay the fee. Upcoming activities in May include a Search and Rescue Evaluation (SAREVAL) and a visit to the WASP Museum in Sweetwater. I would like for each of you who are ES qualified or a trainee to review the ES regulation CAPR 60- 3 to refresh your memory. Also, check your gear to ensure you are ready to deploy. There has been an increase in activity in Group 1 this year with missions near Amarillo, San Angelo, Presidio, Ft Stockton, and, of course, here in Lubbock. This may not be indicative of a trend, but we should always be prepared.

1. April 14-17th 2011 is the Texas Wing Conference. There is a Conference fee of $95 for Seniors and $55 for cadets that will cover Friday evenings Commanders Reception through the Banquet on Saturday night for all meals and seminars. For cadets, there will be a Military Ball Friday night. Cost will be $15 single and $25 a couple. FMI: http://texaswingconference.technologyguild.net/ 2. Our Squadron earned a AFA Scholarship of $250.00 to allow senior and cadet members to travel to Sweetwater, TX to see the WW2 Womens Aviation Museum. Congrats to Maj Littlesoldier and Cpt. Maroste for making it happen. This trip is set for 28 May.

Not 100% operational, but were working on it. Laptops are on order or should be on order this week. 4) Partial Squadron Funding is available. See 1st Lt Vernon or Major Kolas for the form. You can receive up to 50% of the cost of the event provided you meet certain requirements set forth by the Financial Committee.
