Commanders Comments Capt Kline Heroes of our Country Cadets, one of the first ribbons you will wear on your uniform will be that representing General John Francis Curry. General Curry was born April 22, 1886 in New York City. Graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point and was commissioned a 2Lt. of Infantry on February 14, 1908.He served as the Chief of Staff, War Department, Washington DC from 1936 to 1938. Assigned overseas in July of 1943 where he lead our field forces from his Allied Headquarters in the Mediterranean. He returned to the United States assigned to Headquarters Army Air Forces, Washington DC. In 1941 Major General Curry was selected as the first National Commander of the newly formed CIVIL AIR PATROL. He was the main reason for keeping CAP active during the entire war and beyond. Under his superior command he mobilized 100,000 private pilots for non-combatant service, thus freeing military pilots for wartime duty

Moral Leadership Chap., Capt McLawhorn STEWARDSHIP Holy writ states the requirement of being a responsible steward. One responsible stewardship in the CAP is the participation of parents/guardians of the Cadets. Do you know what is being taught to the Cadets in Moral Leadership presentations? The schedule given is for the Ft. Snelling Squadron, but other squadrons have very similar schedules. Not having the time to be a responsible steward today concerning the activities of your children could cost you much more time, money, and heartbreak in the future.

Leadership SM Hebert Leadership training for 2007 is under way at the Fort Snelling Squadron of Civil Air Patrol. We have started our training with the latest revision of Leadership 2000 and Beyond. Beginning with the Civil Air Patrol Motto and the Cadet Oath, we will focus on the mission of Civil Air Patrol. We are placing an emphasis on honor, respect, and team building. Groups of four to six cadets are working together to highlight the main points of certain sections of Leadership 2000 and Beyond, and then presenting their ideas to the squadron. We are utilizing a variety of group activities, such as matching games, to involve the cadets in active hands-on learning. Our goal is to build on the individual, self-paced cadet training, to boost the cadets overall retention of the material. We will be depending on the experienced cadets to function as leaders in their groups, passing on information to the newer cadets.

The Flag of the United States of America If this doesn't give you chills, you should pack up and move on to another country. I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory. I fly atop the world's tallest buildings. I stand watch in America's halls of justice. I fly majestically over institutions of learning. I stand guard with power in the world. Look up and see me. I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice. I stand for freedom. I am confident. I am arrogant. I am proud. When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer. I bow to no one! I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped - I am saluted. I am loved - I am revered. I am respected - and I am feared. I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy. Guam, Okinawa, Korea and Khe Sahn, Saigon, Vietnam knows me. I'm presently in the mountains of Afghanistan and the hot and dusty deserts of Iraq and wherever freedom is needed. I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud. I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt for I am invincible. I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of my country. And when it's done by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts. But I shall overcome - for I am strong. I have slipped the bonds of Earth. (Continued on page 4)

different ideas and read many different articles on this delicate subject. As a 31 year veteran of serving with NOAA, the National Weather Service I have formed my own conclusions. The Earth has been around for many millions of years and you can not believe how massive our atmosphere is. Nature always finds a way to bounce back. Scientist have drilled over a mile in depth into the polar ice caps and found samples our Earths atmosphere. They have found that prior to each Ice Age (every 100,000 years) the Earths global temperature begins to warm to a peak the suddenly drops. This happens around 50,000 years before the next Ice Age. This is where we are now, halfway there. So, naturally our Earth is entering this transition period of warming. Our contribution toward this warming trend, a question to debate for years. I believe we as humans have contributed a very, very minor role in this ongoing question. Volcanic eruptions can destroy the Earths normal heating balance in one lifetime far faster than we are doing with our burning fuels.

But my finest hours are yet to come. When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier, Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.
