Distance Learning
(correspondence courses in astrology)
The name of the company, astrologycollege.com, might indicate that our courses
are computer based. While computers can help considerably and are now part of
everyday life for many, you do not need a computer to study our courses.
Based in the UK, astrologycollege.com was set up in 2002 as a company limited by
guarantee (non-profit making). Its aim is to teach a high standard of astrology from
beginners to advanced level for those who wish to learn astrology for fun, for self-
development purposes or for professional training. The members of the company
elect the directors who are responsible for day-to-day management.
astrologycollege.com aims to deliver courses which are thorough, exciting and
stimulating. It aims to inspire students to become the astrologers of the future,
secure in the knowledge that they have received the backing of a course which is not
only well structured and realistic but is also first class in terms of the information it
aims to deliver.
astrologycollege.com is a school approved by the Association of Professional
Astrologers International - website: www.professionalastrologers.co.uk, and is a
member of the Advisory Panel of Astrological Education (APAE) in the UK.
What is astrology?
Astrology looks at the cycles of the Sun, Moon, planets and stars in relation to human
affairs. You can use astrology to understand yourself and others; to help make the
most of your potential; to interpret birth charts for other people; to study astrological
future trends and to gain a unique insight into global and political events.
Sun sign columns: Your introduction to astrology is, perhaps, the daily or monthly
horoscope or star columns you read in newspapers or magazines, often referred to
as Sun sign columns by astrologers. This is the entertainment side of astrology.
These columns are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to astrology, which has many
applications such as psychological, political, financial, and medical.
The birth or event chart: The birth chart, or event chart, is the first thing you are
likely to come across when you begin your studies. This is a chart showing the
positions of the Sun, Moon and planets at the date, time and place of a birth or of an
event. It could also be a chart for a question asked or for a new venture, such as
finding the right time to start a new business or to get married. The chart is an
astronomically correct map from an earth-centred perspective.
Astrology as an aid to personal development: Many people study astrology for the
sheer pleasure of doing so and for the potential astrology offers for self-development.
astrologycollege.com acknowledges this, so there is no pressure to sit examinations.
Through the use of symbols, astrology can give us an understanding of life by
throwing light on psychological make up, behaviour patterns and potential. It can be
an aid to understanding our relationships, whether personal or professional.

About our courses
Our courses cover modern western astrology which has its roots in the western
tradition. There are several other branches of astrology such as Chinese astrology,
Jyotish/Vedic astrology and Mayan astrology. We do not cover any of these as they
are whole systems in themselves.

Apart from the Taster Course, which is a brief, stand-alone introduction to astrology,
all our courses are modular. The Foundation Course consists of three modules
designed to introduce the student to chart interpretation, chart calculation, and
astrologys astronomical background. The Diploma Course consists of six modules.
Modules 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9, introduce forecasting techniques, planetary cycles and
synastry (the study of relationships), relevant astronomy, advanced interpretation
techniques, psychology, and astro-consultancy. Module 8, Social and Mundane
Astrology, is still in preparation and will be released in late spring/early summer 2010.

Case studies are given in all relevant modules with examples of written consultations
using various techniques. Various astrologers have contributed to and written the
course material: David Baker, Sandra Butler, Jean Elliott, Helene Haw, Babs Kirby,
Lyn Lovell, Sue Martin, Jaki Miles Windmill, Teresa Moorey, Elizabeth Paige,
Gerasime Patilas, Angela Radcliffe, Helene Schnitzer, Christine Tate, Sue Tompkins,
Jeannine van Dun, Wanda Sellar and John Ware.

All students welcome: As long as admission requirements are fulfilled, anyone is
welcome to study with astrologycollege.com, regardless of background, culture,
differing abilities, interests and beliefs, origin, gender, sexual orientation, illness or
disability. Every attempt is being made to help those who are partially sighted.
Course material can currently be put into large print on request.

Do you need mathematical or scientific knowledge before studying with
astrologycollege.com? No! As far as calculation and astronomy are concerned,
there is no need for mathematical or scientific knowledge in either the Foundation or
Diploma Course. Calculation only involves basic arithmetic (adding and subtracting)
and the course material goes through each calculation step very thoroughly.
Astronomy is made as fun and accessible as possible.

Learning at home with experienced tutors: With courses from
astrologycollege.com you can study at home in your own time. A major advantage of
distance learning is that you can take the time to go through the lessons and
exercises thoroughly. The course material is comprehensive and essential books and
reference materials have been kept to a minimum. You can write or type your
exercises, send them by post to your tutor or, in most cases, send them by email.

The role of the tutor: astrologycollege.com provides a one to one teaching service.
Your tutor will assess about three quarters of the exercises in each module and all
the exercises in the Taster Course, Module 7 and Module 9. Some of the exercises
in the other modules are self-assessed. Guidance notes will be sent to you upon
completion of the self-assessed exercises and tutor-assessed exercises where
relevant. You may contact your tutor at any time via post or email if you have queries
about the course material or are having problems with the exercises, whether self-
assessed or tutor-assessed. Your tutor is there to help guide you through the
module you have enrolled on and assist you in your aims, whether you are learning
astrology for personal development or whether you want to train as a professional.

Taster course
The Taster Course is designed for those who have no idea what astrology really is
about, other than through daily/monthly horoscope/star sign columns. It is a simple,
straightforward course working on your own chart for fun. This course will give a
brief introduction to the birth chart. While there is no requirement to do the Taster
Course, this is a good way to see if astrology is a subject that is really of interest to
you or not.

Foundation Course
The Foundation Course is designed for those who want to begin studying astrology
seriously and is divided into three modules:
Module 1 Building Blocks: This covers an introduction to the various branches of
astrology; it gives a comprehensive explanation of the birth chart including
interpretation of the Zodiac signs, the Sun, Moon and planets, the angular distances
between the Sun, Moon and planets (the aspects), and the areas of life which are
determined by the time of birth (the houses).
Module 2 Chart Interpretation, Ethics and Philosophy: This covers a
comprehensive guide to chart interpretation and synthesis, basic ethics, explaining
astrology to the public and an introduction to two forecasting techniques in common
use (transits and secondary progressions).

Module 3 Astronomy, an Introduction to the History of Astrology and Chart
Calculation: This module is divided into two sections which can be bought
separately or together.

Module 3a Astronomy and an Introduction to the History of Astrology: This
covers a brief history of astrology from ancient times to the present; the astronomy
section includes the solar system (the Sun, Moon, planets and asteroids etc.) solar,
lunar and planetary orbits including the Moons phases and eclipses, the seasons
(equinoxes and solstices), and measuring time and space.

Module 3b Chart Calculation: Comprehensive instructions on chart calculation
and drawing up a chart for anywhere in the world.

Lessons and Exercises: In each module, about two-thirds of the exercises are
assessed by your tutor, while the remainder are self-assessed. Guidance Notes are
sent after self-assessed exercises and after completing exercises on case studies.

Order of study: Once you have completed Module 1, Modules 2 and 3 (or 3a and
3b) may be studied in order of preference. Some students may prefer to study chart
calculation first, whilst others may prefer to continue learning how to interpret a chart.

Diploma Course
The Diploma Course takes your astrological studies further. Whether you wish to
carry on studying astrology for self-development purposes or in order to train as a
professional astrologer, the Diploma Course aims to help you achieve these goals.
Modules 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 are for sale. The college aims to release Module 8 by late
spring/early summer 2010. Guides to calculation, as well as interpretation, are
included in the modules where relevant.
PROSPECTUS astrologycollege.com, April 2010
4

Module 4 Forecasting and Planetary Cycles: The main aim is to help you to use
one of the major methods of forecasting transits effectively, and to help you to
grasp the concepts of planetary orbits and cycles in interpretation. Also included are
some ancient and modern interpretation techniques.

Module 5 Forecasting and Life Cycles: The aim is to help you make use,
effectively, of two other forms of forecasting in common use (secondary progressions
and solar arc directions). It also covers transits and secondary progressions based
on age, and it introduces you to reflecting on your work with clients and to making an
astrological journal.

Module 6 Synastry - The Study of Relationships: This module introduces you to
the various techniques used to study personal and professional relationships.

Module 7 Astronomy and Advanced Interpretation Techniques: The
astronomy section includes more information on the cycles of the Sun and Moon, e.g.
eclipse cycles; more astronomy relating to the birth or event chart ( in particular
house systems); the two Zodiacs in use by astrologers; two astronomy laws (Bodes
Law and Keplers Law); an introduction to the constellations and stars; information on
calendars past and present, and an introduction to the universe as seen by
astronomers.

The section on advanced interpretation techniques includes using the chart for the
birthday (solar returns) and for the monthly Moon birthday (lunar returns); and the
chart for the time of a consultation. It also includes two advanced interpretation
techniques which can be used to gain further information on temperament and
behaviour (harmonics and midpoints).

Module 9 Psychology and Astro-Consultancy
This module covers an introduction to therapeutic psychology concentrating on
humanistic models; becoming a professional astrologer; Code of Ethics; the
practicalities of running a business.

Students are advised to take a short course in counselling or listening skills with
another institution as it is not possible to teach these skills adequately using distance
learning methods.

Lessons and Exercises: In Modules 4, 5 and 6, about two thirds of the exercises
are assessed by your tutor, the remainder being self- assessed. Guidance notes are
always sent after self-assessed exercises and after some of the tutor assessed
exercises. All the exercises in Modules 7 and 9 are marked and assessed by your
tutor.

Future Diploma Course Developments
Module 7 The history of astrology: At some point we hope to introduce the
history of astrology into this module.

Live client work: The college is developing a way of helping students to gain
experience of working directly with clients.

PROSPECTUS astrologycollege.com, April 2010

Module 8 Social and Mundane Astrology
Mundane astrology relates to global affairs such as politics, weather, climate and
environment. This module will include interpreting the planets in social and mundane
astrology; planetary cycles and the generations; the astrology of countries and
organisations; electional astrology finding the right time and date for an event or a
beginning; converting birth or event charts onto a world map or onto a map of a local
area (known as astrogeography and local space). The aim is to release Module 8 in
the summer of 2010.

Examinations and Training as a professional astrologer
Some students will wish to train as professional astrologers and the courses are
designed for this purpose too. The tutor team has many years of experience in
giving such training and astrologycollege.com runs both Certificate and Diploma
examinations during the autumn and early winter each year for both internal and
external candidates. For further information, please ask for copies of the
Examination Regulations and Syllabus' and for The Mock Examinations, Certificate
and Diploma' from the Examinations Secretary. Please email
exams@astrologycollege.com for information and application forms, or see
address details at the end of this prospectus.

astrologycollege.com is a school approved by the Association of Professional
Astrologers International (APAI). Diploma holders are entitled to become members
of the APAI. Website address is www. professionalastrologers.co.uk

Prospects: While many astrologers can earn money giving astrological
consultations, working on phone lines and teaching, it is seldom a major source of
income. Only a minority manage to work as full time astrologers and other work or
income usually has to be considered alongside astrology.
Cost of books and reference materials
Taster Course: You do not need additional books or reference materials for this
course.
Foundation Course: There are no requirements to buy books for modules 1, 2 and
3a, although a short recommended reading list is given. Some reference materials are
required for Module 3b, details of which are given when students enrol on this module.
The total cost of essential reference materials is likely to be about 25.
Diploma Course: Assuming you have the essential reference materials required for
Module 3b of the Foundation Course, the total cost of books and reference materials
for the Diploma Course is likely to be in the region of 68. The list of essential
reference materials is given when students enrol. There is also a recommended
reading list.

Hours of study
Taster Course: Each lesson and exercise should not take more than one to two
hours and there are six lessons and exercises.
Foundation Course: The estimated time for completing all three modules is twelve
to eighteen months, or four to six months per module. Each lesson and exercise can
take approximately two to eight hours to complete. Some lessons and exercises may
not take very long at all while others may take longer, especially those involving a
birth chart analysis.
PROSPECTUS astrologycollege.com, April 2010
6
Diploma Course: To study all six of the diploma modules will take approximately six
months per module or up to three years in total. It is possible to do the Diploma
Course in a much shorter time than this, but it will depend on commitment and time
available. The average study time is likely to be three to twelve hours per week.

Tuition periods and extension fees
Taster Course: The tuition period is four months. This means that your tutor will
assess the six exercises in the course if you complete them within this time period. If
they have not been completed, the tuition will end at that point.

Foundation Course: The tuition period is six months per module (not for the whole
Foundation Course). This means that your tutor will mark all the tutor-assessed
exercises you have done in this time period. If there are any remaining tutor-
assessed exercises when the tuition period runs out, you are given another six
months to complete them, but you will be charged 10 per tutor-assessed (t/a)
exercise, if you would like to carry on receiving tuition. If a further six months is
required, the extension fee per t/a exercise is increased to 15; and 20 per t/a
exercise if a final six months is required. There is an additional 10 administration
charge per invoice relating to each extension fee period.

Diploma Course: The tuition period is six months per module (not for the whole
Diploma Course). This means that your tutor will mark all the tutor-assessed
exercises you have done in this period. If there are any remaining tutor-assessed
exercises when the tuition period runs out, you are given another six months to
complete them, but you will be charged 15 per tutor-assessed (t/a) exercise, if you
would like to carry on receiving tuition. If a further six months is required, the
extension fee per t/a exercise is increased to 20; and to 25 per t/a exercise if a
final six months is required. There is an additional 10 administration charge per
invoice relating to each extension fee period.

astrologycollege.com appreciates that there may be genuine exceptional
circumstances which prevent you from completing a module within the timescale
given. However, only in very rare circumstances will a further tuition period be
granted without charging extension fees. If you feel that there are exceptional
circumstances, please contact the directors of astrologycollege.com.
Admission Requirements
Taster Course: Other than being able to read and write in English and having an
interest in exploring the basics of astrology, there are no admission requirements.

Foundation Course: You should have basic literacy and numeracy skills. If English
is not your mother tongue, you must be able to write in English reasonably well.
Verbal communication skills are also very useful to an astrologer, but if you have
disabilities affecting speech, the writing medium can always be used instead. While
it may take a little while to discover what astrology has to offer, no formal
qualifications are required. You only need a standard educational background along
with a willingness to explore different ways of looking at yourself and the world using
the language of astrology.

Diploma Course: The requirements are similar to those of the Foundation Course.
If English is not your mother tongue, you must be able to write in English reasonably
well. If you have passed the Certificate Exam of astrologycollege.com or
PROSPECTUS astrologycollege.com, April 2010

equivalent with another school approved by astrologycollege.com, you will
automatically be entitled to enrol on the Diploma Course. If you have done the
Foundation Course with astrologycollege.com, but not passed the Certificate
Exam, you may still be able to study for the Diploma Course after consultation
between the Directors and your tutor. If you have learnt astrology elsewhere, you will
be asked questions about your previous studies. The questions will be sent to you
with the application form and the answers will be assessed by the college. If
accepted onto the Diploma Course, your tutor has the right to ask you to transfer
onto the relevant modules of the Foundation course if s/he thinks that you do not
have the requisite skills to carry on.
