CHAPTER 1-INTRODUCTION
The cement industry in India is experiencing a boom on account of overall growth of the Indian economy. The demand for cement, being a derived demand, depends mainly on the industrial activities, real estate business, construction activities and investment in the infrastructure sector. India is experiencing growth in all these areas and hence the cement market is moving ahead in spite of the world-wide economic recession. India is the second largest producer of quality cement in the world. The cement industry in India comprises 139 large cement plants and over 365 mini cement plants. Industry's capacity at beginning of the year 2008-09 was 198.30 million tonne (MT) which increased to 219 MT at the close of the year. The initiatives provided by the Government of India to various infrastructure projects, road network and housing activities will provide required stimulus towards the growth of cement industry in India. The cement production has increased from 15.72 MT in December 2011 to 16.47 MT in January 2012. While cement dispatches have increased from 15.76 MT in December 2011 to 16.27 MT in January 2012. India produces variety of cement based on different compositions such as Ordinary Portland cement, Portland Pozzolana, Portland Blast Furnace Slag cement, white cement and specialized cement. Cement in India is produced as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications and the quality is comparable with the best in the world. Some of the major players in the cement industry include Ultratech Cement, Gujarat Ambuja Cement Limited, JK Cements, ACC Cement, Century Cements, Madras Cements, Holcim and Lafarge to name a few. Cement arrivals in Gujarat during December 2011 have been the highest ever according to data compiled by the Cement Manufacturers' Association (CMA) and industry sources. There has been a spurt in demand from infrastructure and Government projects, which in turn led to such high cement arrivals.

CHAPTER 2- INDUSTRY PROFILE

CHAPTER 2.1 - Cement industry in World

In 2010 the world production of hydraulic cement was 3,300 million tonnes. The top three producers were China with 1,800, India with 220 and USA with 63.5 million tonnes for a combined total of over half the world total by the world's three most populated states.

CURRENT AFFAIRS:
Mike Hogg, general manager of Shell Gas Direct, discusses how cement producers can embrace energy management in the UK. Cement has been selected as the primary cement supplier for the Baha Mar tourist complex in Cable Beach, Nassau. The Wildlife Habitat Council has certified five Cement sites across the USA for their management of wildlife enhancement and land conservation projects. Heidelberg Cement has opened a new cement ball mill in Bangladesh. Indonesias cement sales grew 17% in 2011.

Blue World Crete Inc. presents new discoveries in green building materials technology.

CHAPTER 2.2-Cement industry in India

Cement industry has been decontrolled from price and distribution on 1st March 1989 and delicensed on 25th July 1991. However, the performance of the industry and prices of cement are monitored regularly. The Cement Corporation of India, which is a Central Public Sector Undertaking, has 10 units. The total installed capacity in the country as a whole is 159.38 million tonnes. The first cement industry in India was set up at Porbundar, Gujarat in 1914,with a production capacity of 1000 tons per annum. It is also about a century old industry in India. The Indian cement industry is the second largest in the world. India's share in in the worlds cement production is around 6% . Exports recorded a growth of 14.24% in the 10th Five Year Plan. The industry recorded the highest growth in exports during 2004-05, when it exported around. 10 million tonnes. Since

13

then, the exports declined to 6 million tonnes during 2008-09. Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius and UAE are major export destinations for the cement industry. Recently cement industry has started consuming 75% of the Fly Ash recycled in the country, a hazardous waste posing problems of disposal by Thermal Power Plants. Similarly, the Cement Industry has also helped in providing a clean environment by consuming blast furnace slag, which also poses a problem of disposal. The annual domestic demand of cement, the annual production of cement and the export of cement during the last five years is as given below:(in Million Tonnes)

The Tariff Commission has indicated that the retail price of cement in India is second highest next only to Japan. According to the Commission, the retail price of cement is lowest in China. The Tariff Commission felt that the high retail cost of Indian cement can be attributed to the following factors:(i) High cost of raw material; (ii) High power cost; (iii) High transportation cost; (iv) Dependence on road transport for movement of clinkers to cement; (v) Profit motive of the cement companies The weighted average cost and its percentage on total cost sales for major cost elements in respect of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), Portland Blast Furnace Slag Cement (PBFSC), after a detailed analysis, have been indicated by the Tariff Commission as under:

Infrastructure development is one of the prime requirements for the countrys economic development. Efficient movement of man and materials in terms of speed and safety need to be given top priority while prioritizing infrastructure components. The Government took up the development of highways/roads by constructing/ improving the highways/roads network through the programmes of Golden Quadrilateral and North-South, East-West corridors as also rural connectivity roads through Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Use of Technologies:
The principal raw materials for the manufacturing of cement are limestone, gypsum and sand which are scarcely available. The Committee felt that a research on non-limestone bearing raw material and binders which can partially replace cement is important. In this connection, the Committee heard the views of representatives of National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM). The representatives of NCCBM informed the committee that in making composite cement, more than one waste material is used. The committee learnt that various wastes like lead-zink slag, copper slag, steel slag, marble dust, which were not allowed for utilization earlier, have now been identified for blending with cement. Those can be utilized to the extent of 5-15% as blending component or as raw material component or as mineral mixture.

15

In regard to use of sand for making cement, representatives of NCCBM stated that nowadays crushed sand is used for cement instead of natural river sand. Crushed sand is obtained from modern crushers, which produce crushed sand of standard requirements. The Committee feels that crushers, being hazardous, should not be permitted near a populated area.

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is the most common type of cement in general use around the world because it is a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar. It is a fine powder produced by grinding Portland cement clinker (more than 90%), a limited amount of calcium sulfate (which controls the set time) and up to 5% minor constituents as allowed by various standards such as the European Standard

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is manufactured in the form of different grades, the
most common in India being Grade-53, Grade-43, and Grade-33. OPC is manufactured by burning siliceous materials like limestone at 1400 degree Celsius and thereafter grinding it with gypsum. 1. OPC 43 Grade 2. OPC 53 Grade

35

OPC 43 GRADE
The 43 grade OPC is the most popular general-purpose cement in the country today. The production of 43 grade OPC is nearly 50% of the total production of cement in the country. 43 Grade OPC can be used for the following applications: 1. General civil Engineering work. 2. Precast items such as blocks, tiles, pipes etc. 3. Non-structural works such as plastering, flooring etc.

APPLICATIONS:

All types of R.C.C.works Residential and commercial complexes Industrial structures Bridges, dams, irrigation works For highways, runways etc.

OPC 53 GRADE
OPC 53 is a higher strength cement to meet the needs of the consumer for higher strength concrete. As per BIS requirements the minimum 28 days compressive strength. 53 grade OPC produces higher-grade concrete at very economical cement content. 53 Grade OPC can be used for the following applications. 1. Precast concrete items such as paving blocks, tiles building blocks etc. 2. Pressurized concrete components. 3. Runways, concrete Roads, Bridges etc

Advantages

Speedy construction Durable concrete Economic concrete mix designs Low percentages of alkalies, chlorides, magnesia and free lime leads to the production of durable concrete.

CHAPTER 4.3 - PPC CEMENT

36

Portland Pozzolana Cement is manufactured by blending pozzolanic materials, OPC clinker, and gypsum either grinding them together or separately. Today Portland Pozzolana Cement is widely in demand for industrial and residential buildings, roads, dams, and machine foundations. Pozzolana is an important ingredient in PPC which is commonly used in the form of: Fly ash Volcanic ash Silica fumes Calcined clay PPC is used in heavy load infrastructure and constructions such as marine structures, hydraulic structures, mass concreting works, plastering, and all applications of ordinary Portland cement.

Advantages of PPC Cement

Low heat of hydration Resistance to sulphate attack and chloride attack Resistance to alkali silica reaction Reduction in water demand Reduced bleeding due to high fineness of cement Pore refinement leading to improved density of concrete

CHAPTER 4.4 - RMC(Ready Mix Concrete) CEMENT Ready-mix concrete is a type of concrete that is manufactured in a factory or batching plant,
according to a set recipe, and then delivered to a work site, by truck mounted transit mixers . Ready Mixed Concrete is also referred as the customized concrete products for commercial purpose. the Ready-mix Concrete Company offer different concrete according to user's mix design or industrial standard.

CHAPTER 4.5 - CEMENT BRICKS

Research is a movement, a movement from known to unknown. It is actually a voyage of discovery. Research is, thus; originally contribute to the existing stock of knowledge making for its advancement. It is the pursuit of truth with the help of study, observation, comparison and experiment. In short, the search for knowledge through objectives and systematic method of finding solution to a problem is research. The systematic approach concerning generalization and the formulation of a theory is also research.

CHAPTER 6.1- Research Methodology: Research methodology is a way to

systematically solve the research problem. It may be understood as a science of studying how research is done scientifically. It is necessary for the researcher to know not only the research methods but also the methodology.

Research & Research Methodology Research: Research in common parlance refers to a search for knowledge. Research can also
defined as, a systematic and scientific search for pertinent information on a specific topic. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation.

41

The scope of research methodology is wider than that of the research methods. Thus, when we talk of research methodology we not only talk of the research methods but also consider the logic behind the methods we using the context of our research study and explain why we are using a particular method or technique and why we are not using other so that research results are capable of being evaluated either by the researcher or by others. In short, we can say that, research methodology has many dimensions and research methods do constitute a part of the research methodology.

RECOMMENDATIONS

CHAPTER 10 - RECOMMENDATIONS

60

This is one of the most important and most difficult part of the study. I arrived at certain recommendations after the analysis of the data. Some of the important recommendations are as follows Barathi cement company Pvt. Ltd. should expand the business by opening other regional office all over the country. Company should adopt aggressive marketing strategy that it could reach each and every place. Distribution network should be expanded along with supply chain by providing the trade company the genuine products for attracting more customers. According to quality of Bharathi cement, its price is high , so the price should be fixed according to its quality. Company should have better logistics facility for making reach the product at retailers door at a right time. Marketing Development Coordinators/ Marketing Executives/ Sales Executives of the company must focus more for making better relationship with architects. Company should more focus on non-trade segments because non-trade segments more prefer the quantity. To increase the sales and attract more customers they should increase the advertisement through different media sources, to increase its popularity among the customers.

In order to respond effectively to changing market trends and challenges, Cement companies must support their improvement efforts with industry-specific solutions. Company should focus on their customers satisfaction because it is blood of the company because if product will not reach the market then there is no need of their production as well as company should focus on better services /schemes which can be provide to the architects as well as their customers.

61

CONCLUSION

CHAPTER 11 - CONCLUSION
This presents the summary of the study and survey done on "Customer Satisfaction on Bharathi cement with special reference of Rajesh Constro Trading Co. Pvt. Ltd."
62

Most of the customers were satisfied with its quality but its price is high according to its quality. So it should be adjusted according to the changing scenario to increase its demand in the market. The facilities and services offered by the dealers are satisfactory but it should be improved. The architects would like to promote Bharathi cement recommending their own customers. Relation with trade and non-trade company is good but it should be notified according to the requirement to increase its sales.
