CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES Introduction This chapter presents the reviewed literature and studies,

which have significance to the project. The literature review is a critical look at the existing research. It shows the relationships between different work, and how it relates to the project. It also indicates the previous research and writings recognized by experts, both of which related to the problem under investigation.

2.1 Related Literature 2.1.1 Foreign Literature These writings help us know different factors to consider in developing our proposed system. The different articles we have read that can give us more ideas on how to improve our studies. According to Donald H. Sandness, in his book entitled Computer Concepts and Applications, Few schools operate today without computer support for grades reporting and record keeping. Marshall Maluhan is regarded as the media prophet in the role he suggests computers are causing deep changes in our social structure. He points out that we are only at the beginning to fully understand the true nature of this technology. He said, All media form the phonetic alphabet to computers are extensions on this environment. People are beginning to understand the nature of this new technology but not yet nearly enough and not really well enough. As mentioned on the book entitled The Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 by H.M Deitel, P.J Deitel and T.R Nieto (2002) stated that as computer came more powerful, it became evident that single user batch rarely utilized the computer resources efficiently. Instead, it was thought that many tasks that could be made to share the resources of the computer to achieve better utilization. This book was included to have a brief background in the Microsoft Visual Basic because it is the programming language used in developing the system. It shows the importance of computers and the benefits it can give to the user. Computer gives a lot of

benefits that can help the user to do almost any application making it a big advantage to their part. According to the book entitled Sunnytodayfile 2002 by the State University of New York, The increase reliance on private capital markets along which demographic trends such as aging of the population lightens the importance the institutional investors not simply to financial institutions, but to entire society. The book was included having a brief background on technology we know that technology plays a vital role in improving our lives which benefits us a lot. Donald H. Sandness also pointed out that, the computer is helping the administration to keep track of the education.

2.1.2 Local Literature Today many Universities and other Educational institutions are using the one step enrollment with the aid of computers so called computerized enrollment system. All students and concerned employees are benefited because it is faster than the traditional process of enrollment. Record keeping and the security of datas were guaranteed. Implementing a computerized enrollment system reduced task, more convenient, faster and economical as well. Nowadays through computer software programs instructions and processes record keeping, transactions, and manual processes are eliminated. Manual system present numerous problems that are solved by computer and communication technologies. Automation of traditional system was implemented on many businesses, companies, universities and other educational institutions to provide faster transactions and security of the confidential data.

2.2 Related Studies 2.2.1 Related Foreign Studies Different studies have been conducted regarding LAN based Enrollment System in order for the incoming researchers to use in conducting their own studies. These studies became helpful to us because it enlighten us to the factors and things to consider in developing a LAN based automated system.

One of the big challenges of building automated systems is that most scheduling problems are unique, with logic and a set of business rules that are different from other problems. For many scheduling processes, humans do the scheduling manually, and the logic on how to do it only fully exists in human brains. Proper analyzing is the key to develop a wellorganized scheduling system. Scheduling is often at the center of operations for an organization, an automated scheduling system often must interact with some of the organizations critical IT systems. It is important to have a set of test cases specifically designed to test correctness of scheduling algorithm in addition to those for testing the software. Test cases should cover, in some sense, the full range of possibilities that can be encountered by the scheduling algorithm. Another idea in developing an automated scheduling system is to make it logical and easier to develop so that the technology can be applied to more problems. [http://Vishnu.bbn.com/papers/so.pdf]

2.2.2 Related Local Studies Here in our country there are different people who have studied the computerization of enrollment system. As mentioned in the thesis entitled College of Commerce Computerized Enrollment Procedure by Merwin Lacson, Francis Neil David, Percival Silva, Regie Roxas, Victor Quinto, Ferdinand Bautista, Christopher George Reyes (1999) (p. 1). Information is the key resource needed by organization in order to gain competitive advantage in their respective fields. This article was discussed a brief idea on a Computerized Enrollment System. It shows important related information in making a project. This information can serve as guidelines that would help us to ease the work involve, saving us a lot of time and effort. In the thesis entitled The Gentle Shepherd Enrollment System by Enriquez and Velasco (1999) stated the The Computerized system is built to meet the growing needs of any companies and organizations. The article was included to have a brief idea on Computerized Enrollment System. Nowadays, computer plays a vital role in enhancing and improving the lives which makes complicated tasks simple. Another thesis entitled A Proposed Computerized System for Sta. Rita College by Sherwin Lacsamana, Valentino Santos Jr, Minerva Salazar, Lorna lUmba, Elizar Garcia, Margie

Ignacio (2001) stated that The use of computer in the organization and institution has been spreading consistently for the past decade with decreasing unit cost and improving performance capabilities, speed, accuracy, and reliability. This article was included to have a brief idea on computerized enrollment system, it also shows the value of computers nowadays, which can lead to our advantage. In undergraduate thesis entitled A LAN-Based Enrollment System for the school of St. Anthony by Prado and Rico (2000) stated that the use of computerized processing system is to provide a better solution to maintain consistency of processing student record that is very essential in every enrollment and payment system. This book was included to have a brief idea on Computerized Enrollment System.

2.3 The Difference of the Previous Study and the Proposed System. The previous study is same with the proposed system but differ in some factors. For instance, the previous study was made for the benefit of broader users while our proposed system is intended for St. Anthony Academy only. Also, the previous study and the proposed system are both able to handle and manage students records. Both are also helpful in minimizing the use of human resources in such a way that the use of pen and paper will be abolished. In our proposed study, we are planning to have more improved and flexible system.
